Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt for migraine

maxalt

Avatar f tn When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.
Avatar f tn I also get migraines. have you paid attention to any of the known migraine "triggers" like red wiine & chocolate, hard cheeses etc. You probably have but I thought I'd mention it. Like the others, I take Maxalt for mine & it always works. Maxalt is from the migraine interrupter family & also includes imetrix & Zomig. Good luck - it sounds very difficult.
1088430 tn?1259159773 t recognize Botox as a standard treatment for migraine headaches and the government will ONLY pay for what they consider "standard treatments" (so, the generic, most commonly prescribed form of a treatment), and in this case the government considers the daily treatments such as antidepressants, anticonvulsants and beta blockers the standard treatments for migraine headaches.
Avatar n tn i took 2 maxalt on saturday for a migraine, it didnt help at all, actually made it worse making me vomit for 3 days and today is friday, 6 days later and i still feel like, tired, weak, foggy, not hungry, cant really go to the bathroom even though i feel like i have to. is this gonna go away?
Avatar f tn There are other dissolvables out there too. I am surprised depakote is not helping, because it is used for migraine treatment. Start that darn magnesium or I am going to find you and kick your behind!!
768044 tn?1294223436 I use Maxalt 10mg tablets. I'd never be able to handle the disintegrating tablets due to throwing up. The Maxalt works wonderful for me and I've been using it for the last 2 years. I've never had any side effects while using this medication.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Yes, most migraine medications do work well for most people. But, not everyone has the same success with all medications. For acute treatment of migraine headaches, first line treatment is triptans. There are currently 7 triptans on the market, plus one triptan that is also mixed with an NSAID called Naproxen. I believe that fast acting triptans are the best in most situations because they work the fastest. Fast acting triptans come in orally disintegrating tablets or nasal sprays.
Avatar f tn Hello! I am 34 years old for the past 2 years I have been getting nausea with constant headache for 6 days before my period. It's to the point where I'm on zofran and have maxalt for headache. I can't leave my house because I feel like I'm going to vomit but I don't. I guess that's a good thing, lol zofran works. Once I get my period it goes away! Anyone experience this or have any feedback thank you!!!
1552758 tn?1304928419 Hi - I don't have a question but maybe have some answers for the other migraine sufferers out there. I have been a migraine sufferer for about twenty years. From the days when you had to lock yourself in a dark room for 3 days, vomiting and rolling in pain, scared of someone making a noise and having a spouse that does not even suffer from headaches!
Avatar f tn Sounds like you were having some form of vertigo (spins). It could be from the pill your doc prescribed - I would check with him/her to be sure. I have recently started taking the Maxalt Wafers when a migraine strikes, and they seem to be working for me. I'm almost 24, and have been suffering from migraines since I was 5 years old...so I consider myself a bit of a veteran.
Avatar f tn Oh on a side note...maxalt is a triptan and is not recommended for migraine patents who have aura because it can increase risk of stroke. It causes vasoconstriction, tightening of the blood vessels. You might want to ask your doctor why he/she says it is okay to be on that? I took my mothers maxalt when I had a migraine and my primary care physicain and my neurologist both scolded me for taking it because of my complicated migraine with aura!
1334481 tn?1276697078 Dear NM, Congratulation on achieving your degree. The Maxalt can cause what is called a rebound headache/migraine from overuse. I've not heard of being immune to it. Here are a couple of thoughts that might help you: 1) You and your Doctor may need to consider upping the dosage of topomax. My wife increased her dosage from 50mg to 100mg. At the 50mg dose we did notice a decrease in total number of monthly migraines after discounting for weather from the 25mg dose.
Avatar n tn Hello, My wife has severe migraine headache and when I started looking for help online I saw this maxalt/Rizatriptan is there any other name that I can look for in INDIA. I tried looking with Ritza and could not find it in hyderabad,AP,INDIA.Any help will be really appreciated.
Avatar f tn In my opinion, that is a very odd medication for a migraine. Usually triptans like Imitrex or Maxalt are given for migraines and work very well. Usually the Fiorinal is given for tension headaces. Good luck and I hope you can find the perfect medication for you.
Avatar m tn She proclaims that she diluted and injected her migraine medicine (Maxalt) because she keeps throwing it up. Her symptoms, however, where those of an opiate overdose....blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc. Does anyone know what the side effects would be of injecting maxalt? I find this impossible to believe that it would knock her out and turn her blue.
1102283 tn?1257817472 As I said before, I use Zomig Nasal Spray and I find it works amazingly well for the majority of my migraines. In the past I used Maxalt-MLTs, and they worked really well for me for a long time too. A lot of my friends use Maxalt-MLTs with great success. Although, Zomig Nasal Spray has got to be my favourite triptan on the market. Other acute migraine medications include analgesics and antiemetics.
Avatar f tn i have tried all sorts for the pains in my head i have been on loads of different tablets i have been going to the chronic paain unit hospital for the last 12 years i get injections every 6months into the bk of my head and my neck i go to the hospital on tues the 12th to get more injection this will b my 26 injection for migraine .
Avatar m tn She recovered completely but since some years ago she developed a chronic migraine. Of course we went to a lot of neurologists, made tomographies, magnetic resonances, etc. etc. and everything looks ok. Currently she takes 75 mg of Topamax (topiramate) in the morning and 75 mg more at night. Additionally, she takes 1 or 2 Acetaminophen (650 mg) daily and when the pain is very strong she takes 1 Maxalt (Rizatriptan) 10 mg.
1817265 tn?1317302747 We finally got our BFP after almost 2yr of trying and 2 IUI's. Took a hpt yesterday and saw the VERY faint line and family MD did a yes/no blood test, and while it was faint as well, it was a yes. AF wasn't supposed to even show till tomorrow so I'm not even 4wks. We are praying all goes well and can't wait to hold our blessing in our arms!
Avatar n tn The first week a had a couple of severe headaches but this last week I have had one every day, with the most severe needing two Maxalt tablets and two advil. My gyn, I guess, thought it was time for me to stop.
Avatar n tn For subluxation, see a Physical Therapist specialist in Manual Therapy, or a Chiropractor. For a migraine see your doctor about trying Maxalt or other medication to prevent or ease the pain syptoms. Do you have any other symptoms?
Avatar n tn Now, this is confusing (I am not a doctor but this is one hypothesis) The seizure is a symptom of getting the migraine or a trigger for the migraine. So she may actually need one Migraine preventative AND one anti-seizure med. Topamax is touted to help so many people with migraines but their marketing campaign is huge and the drug is used world wide as this latest and greatest.
Avatar m tn Talk to your doctor about antimigraine medications such as Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc., that are meant to acute migraine attacks. Until you see your doctor, you have over the counter options such as aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen, or Excedrin.
