Basically massage your neck area very gently so as not to bring on a migraine or headache with opposite hand to opposite side of neck. So left hand massage right side of neck very gently and then do the other side. For your upper back put pillow on your bed. Place your upper back on the pillow so your head is hanging off the pillow. Arms out to the side. This gives you a good stretch through your chest and upper back.
Avatar f tn I have a really good massage therapist who is also going to school for PT, she does TMJ massage for me and it is so helpful to my headaches. Finding a way to learn to relax those muscles will be key for you - I also do yoga which has helped so much. I have found a lot of helpful pressure points, cold water techniques from searching on youtube under "Migraine relief" there are endless chriros and PTs that offer solutions. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn My 34 yr old husband has recently (in the last month) started having extreme headaches. He says that the are constant, sharp, pains. The location is from his shoulders up through his neck, continuing to the back of his head (about ear level) and goes around the sides. There's no pain in the top or front of his head. Our Dr. at first said sinus infection and gave 2 rounds of antibiotics. Then he said it was pre-hypertension with his blood pressure running about 135/90 and put him on b.p.
1184961 tn?1292574076 Yes & it does help, only it's expensive. My husband has been unemployed for 2 years so we have to cut back on expenses. I do get the massages when I can though. I wish I could get them on a regular basis. I failed to say that I also havae fibromyalgia so the massages does wonders for that when I can get them regularly. I haev 2 friends who are massage therapists who do give me discounts right now, so I am blessed in that respect. Thanks for reminding me of this.
Avatar n tn I have neck and back pain everyday. The MRI showed small herniated disks in neck but the back MRI was clear. I have pain in the middle of my back and anything physical makes it worse. It all started with severe migraines. My hands shake now all the time and the pain in unexplained still after not working for 5 months. My physical therapist believes that it is a sympathetic nervous system problem but doesnt think i should still be in so much pain. My family Dr.
Avatar f tn I had it done and it is amazing how much it has helped. Gone from taking megadoses of pain killers for the neck and shoulder/back pain to letting my almost full bottle of pain killers expire. The nerves do grow back but hopefully the protrusion has receded enough to not be afecting the spine/nerves. ALSO, found that this pain is not uncommon for those bending down to read the computer screen for hours on end. Hope this helps.
1114793 tn?1258730647 My husband is 32 and first started getting neck pain (back of neck) on Sunday, and by Monday during the day it became so bad that his range of motion became very limited. There is no known cause as to why this began. He developed pain while swallowing (on Monday). The front of his neck feels bruised. He also said it feels as if he was screaming all night at a rock concert. The most painful motion is when he tries to tilt his head back.
Avatar f tn Releasing the back of the neck from your front muscles of your neck is common. I did medical massage which was a life saver, saw a chiropractor and did physical therapy. All helped significantly. I would consider getting a full evaluation. Now, with the chiropractor, I had a huge issue with my neck being - cracked- up high, so they used other procedures.
Avatar f tn I have been having some bad pain in the right side of my neck. I have always had some neck problems but it hasn't been this bad in awhile. On top of it all my right shoulder is hurting and so is my right arm. My arm muscle is so sore and feels so heavy and tight and I haven't done a whole lot. I have taken Tylenol and tried biofreeze but nothing is working. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm 9 weeks right now.
82861 tn?1333453911 ll probably find that as even a quick, casual neck massage with your fingers results in the dog leaning into you and instantly relaxing into readiness for the full-body treatment. If you have a very active, hyper dog, massage is a great technique to calm them down. Massage also creates a unique bonding experience for both of you. Enjoy!
Avatar m tn For about 3 months I have been experiencing extreme neck pain. About a month earlier I suffered head trauma (not sure if that has to do with it.) The neck pain starts at the very top of my neck and makes it feel as if my head is too heavy. The pain can travel down the sides of my neck and into my arms and hands. Ive been going to massage and acupuncture for the past month and have noticed no difference. What could be causing this pain?
Avatar f tn I've recently been experiencing severe neck pain. Its unbearable to even sleep at night. Any suggestions on how to subdue the pain? It'd be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn s way worse!!! Every time I move my neck it hurts. When I turn it to the side, Its a pretty sharp pain about an 8 out of ten that shoots all the way from the top to bottom. Letting my head lay straight down doesn't really hurt. Turning it in any way or putting it back hurts. Sleeping hurts. And I never rallied how much Swoosh my head to move my bangs until recently, when it started to hurt. I am so tired of this.
1448936 tn?1363206346 erin, I would suggest against going to a Chiropractor for neck pain. Medically, it's pretty rare for them to be able to help with neuromuscular pain in the neck, and there's overwhelming evidence that they can do far more harm than good. Are you involved in any behavioral or talk therapies? You may find some relief in learning how to manage your anxiety by addressing the root causes and learning helpful coping mechanisms.
Avatar f tn this includes stim, exercises, ultrasound and neck traction, which is great. because when i am on the neck traction machine all radiating pain is gone. in therapy 2 months now... seeing neurosurgeon to get opinion on steroid injections, as surgery is always a last resort for me. in your opinion when do u give up and go for the surgery if u were me?
Avatar f tn Any advice for really bad neck bad. Can't even turn neck. Came out of no where.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from chronic pain ever since; the trigger spot seemed to be my neck. In recent years the problem has moved to my right side of my neck that then starts under my straight shoulder blade and down my right arm. The pain has progressively worsened. I have been to many specialists to treat the pain and diagnose exactly what is causing it. One of my friends suggested getting the help of a chiropractor. I've recently moved to Mississauga and got nobody to ask.
Avatar f tn I have had the same surgery done in Aug 07. I am still bothered with headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain and arm pain. And recently the numbness is returning. I cannot get the the insurance company to approve an injection of the facet joint, so I have been living on hydrocodone three times a day and not being able to do much of anything. Now I have to see the neurosurgeon again and I am afraid they will not refill my prescription for pain meds even though I cannot be seen until June 4th.
1175033 tn?1492201228 Thank you all for your replies. I think I am over due for a good massage, that is for sure! I think I am going to just try and cope until I see the neurologist in March, see if he has any opinions.
Avatar n tn yes i have severe pain in my neck and sholder on my right side .and its causeing sever headaches.
996946 tn?1503249112 Thank you so much for that suggestion. I know they do some massage with her, maybe they need to do that more often. They are first time parents and I know that in itself can be stressful and anxious.
Avatar f tn When I massage it the dull uncomfortable pain gets better. I also have a lump on my neck that connects to the spot above the collarbone. I have gone to the Dr.s but she said I have fibrosis. Something about muscles. Can anyone help... Please I dont know what to do...
Avatar m tn I also massage from that point all along the jawline, down my neck, up the temples. Use pain as your guide. You really cannot do any harm if you are stopping when your pain is telling you it hurts and to stop. There are two muscles that are in the mouth, the masseter (biggest) and pterygoid (smaller and tighter),and you can touch them both from the inside and out.
620923 tn?1452915648 I wish I had a tub I fit in. At 5'10" I just don't fit in the bath in my kids bathroom. Some day I hope to re-do my large walk-in shower to a shower over jacuzzi tub combo. There's room. I relax by lying in my dark room(I just made blackout curtains) and watching old sitcoms I DVR or just napping.
