Avatar n tn If you would like to follow me I eat low carb I eat 30 carbs a day bc I had JD and my dad died at 53 from complication to diabetes so if I eat 30 or less carbs a day my A1C is 5.3 when I eat carbs it's about a 8 so that's my happy number.
Avatar f tn Can anyone direct me to a good website that will teach me how and what to eat. I am sure I am going to get a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes this week. My blood glucose this AM when I woke up was 200. It's been running about 125-130 all week. I also get some pretty low numbers during the day and start to feel weak and jittery. I'd just like to see what the diet looks like before I go in to see my doctor. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I use net carbs. Simpler that way. I do eat low carb. However, if you use insulin you need to be, aware that some carb foods digest more quickly than others, which may affect insulin dosing.

Avatar n tn a low carb high fat diet seemed to work great for me sense fat has no glycemic index and is also a great appetite suppressant it also helped with weight lose , off course you should go for the good natural fats like olive oil , coconut oil, avocado and things like that. Cutting out the carbs from the diet worked wonders, I hope this helps. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I think there are two types of Weight Watchers plans you can do, the plan where you count points and the one where it is a lower carb diet. Anyways, I gained weight on weight watchers before, when there wasn't the lower carb choice. I am now doign South Beach and have had success this week.
Avatar f tn I've had Diabetes since I was 8 (and am now 29 with a daughter and no complications). The "Dawn Phenomenon" is very common amongst Diabetics. I have the same issue and have learned to truly change my lifestyle/eating habit in the morning to accomodate. I am on an insulin pump (which I highly recommend) and found that in the morning, I had to take 5 times the amount of Insulin I would normally take throughout the day.
Avatar n tn You can eat different vegetables, fruits, protein and healthy fats. Grilled fish and seafood dishes can be some nice meal options.
Avatar n tn Many people with diabetes find that a low carb diet (est. 100 g/day) or even a very low carb diet (est 40 - 60g)/day works for them. The carbs come mainly from non-starchy vegetables. You will have to work out by trial and error (using your meter) what works for you. Also you will need to check out how to properly dose both basal and bolus insulin. Look up dr. Richard Bernstein. His book is called diabetes solution.
Avatar m tn If you do not understand what changes you need to make, you should speak to your doctor about what is recommended for you specifically. Your doctor may have a sample diet menu or be able to recommend a nutritionist to help you understand the proper diet. There are also may diabetic cook books on the market that can help you to understand how to make common foods that are not going to spike your blood glucose. Additionally you should ask your doctor about an exercise program.
Avatar n tn m trying to give e my body a break from carbs to increases my insulin sensitivity, and establish some baselines on how many carbs I can eat and still get fasting reading below 100. I'm not sure how to interpret these results. It looks like I can hardly eat carbs at all without going into predisbetic range, but the app says all my readings are in a healthy range and estimates my A1C at 5.7%, saying I'm very low risk. I know that the app is not a diagnostic tool.
973741 tn?1342342773 However, people who strictly follow low carb typically limit carbs to 30 g / day or even 20 g /day. This means cutting out grains, starchy vegetables, sweet fruits and sugars. Non-starchy veges, meat, dairy, nuts are all on the menu and can provide a very satisfying way of eating.
Avatar n tn Carbs raise BG so restricting carbs will help BG. when you say 6 units I assume you mean 6 exchanges which is 90 gr of carbs. If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
Avatar f tn A low carb diet consists of mainly vegetables and unprocessed meats ( no hotdogs or already made things containing meat.) Things to avoid would be grains, fruits, corn, potatoes, etc. This is really hard to do because it leaves out a lot of the sugary things in your diet, that overall, people seem to crave. However, carbs aren't all bad. A lot of the energy we get for the day comes from carbs, which makes them pretty important. Too many carbs can be a problem.
Avatar n tn A little while ago i had a nondiabetic doctor recommend a low carbohydrate diet to help keep my blood sugars low and when i mentioned it to my endocrinologist she said that that type of diet puts extra strain on the kidneys and since diabetics are already prone to kidney problems they should avoit it. i would recommend that at your next doctor appointment you ask to be referred to a dietician to go over the proper diet aspects for a diabetic.
Boy Diabetes means your Body can not control the rise of BG. What causes BG to rise... Carbohydrates Carbs raise BG ALL carbs Whole wheat, brown rice, most fruits, potato... all carbs raise BG Steak has very few carbs so it wont effect your BG much, however the mashed potatoes will send BG through the roof. Google "low carb hi fat diet" (LCHF) LOTS of diabetics can control there BG by eating LCHF diet without meds.
Avatar f tn I need a diet/ menu for a person with hepatitis c ie what cooking oils, what meat can they eat, can they eat fruit etc. ?

Avatar n tn I did the candida diet and it really reset my hunger levels. I still try to limit the amount of carbs I eat because when I have too many of them, I start to feel the constant hunger creeping back in.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar n tn Carbohydrates raise BG ALL carbs... whole wheat, rice potato, most fruit will raise your BG. How hi depends on you and how far down the diabetic jurny you have traveled. a normal person does not get complications like going blind or loosing toes/feet/legs a normal person never has BG over 120 Joslin Diabetes Center says BG over 136 causes damage that leads to complications. So a lot of people restrict carbohydrates so there BG does not go over 140 some chose 120 some chose 180 (ADA limit).
Avatar f tn No starchy or sugary foods like potatoes, rice, pasta and flour. And no low-fat or fat-free processed foods (they are loaded with sugars, carbs and chemicals). Stay away from margarine and other fake manmade fats. Fats containing high proportion of omega 3 is the healthier option (like salmon, olive oil, nuts, coconut, etc) Eat real whole food more than processed food.
Avatar m tn try my suggestion above and try this eat 50 grams of carbs 150 grams of protein and about 150-200 grams of fat. your menu 3 egg cheese and mushroom omelet. lunch roast beef slices wrapped in colby cheese dinner baked salmon, broccoli with butter and a salad with dressing.
1401296 tn?1280799533 ve been studying and it seems that we all could use a lot less carbs in our diet no matter what, and there are benifits in it for everyone.
Avatar n tn He is on a 1500 calorie diabetic diet (which I thought kind of high but I am not the expert) and he is supposed to get 30-45grams of carbs per meal! 15 grams per snack! I am probably OVER analyzing things with him being newly diagnosed but I am having a REALLY hard time planning out a menu to make sure he gets his 30-45 Grams per meal! I am looking for QUICK or EASY ideas because I do have twins and our day stays hectic!
