1738455 tn?1310867954 Although it is unusual, my husband quit smoking cold turkey after having smoked heavily for more than 30 years and never once smoked again. He suffered no withdrawal symptoms, but he did gain weight which he has had trouble losing. I stopped smoking gradually, perhaps over a period of five years. I occasionally want a cigarette, but resist. I did not gain any weight.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking 10 weeks ago and I never took up eating to take the place of them. I am walking 3 miles about 50 min 4 times a week and I do upper body weights as well 4 times a week and I am still gaining weight. I am eating about 2000 cals a day some days a little less. Lets say I am 50 years old :) My arms and legs are toning up but the mid section is getting bigger! Will this even out as my body gets used to no smoking? Not looking to lose pounds but inches, lots of inches!!
127596 tn?1210922622 m absolutely amazed at the night-and-day difference between the effects smoking - and not smoking - have on my sinuses. After a day or two of not smoking, I can breathe all day, every day, without any congestion. It's incredible. Definitely a plus. I have about a 50% hearing loss in my left ear; it's from a culmination of loud music and myriad head traumas. Anyway, since some of my hearing is gone, I've had a very keen sense of smell for years now.
Avatar n tn Weight gain is a big issue when u quit smoking. But in the long run its much healthier for you and bubs. Ive read of ladies on here that gained 60lbs + during there pregnancy and it sheds off pretty quickly after birth. I wouldnt worry about it, hopefully u plan on breastfeeding which helps a lot. While breastfeeding ur uterus conyracts which is how a lot of women lose there pregnancy weight within the first month to two months of delivery. Eat healthy and drink lots of water.
Avatar m tn I'm not a health professional but have read a lot of reports from my own stress tests, and it sounds like you have a strong heart. An ejection fractions of 70% is something those of us with heart problems would embrace. However, you were given a big warning. Your family history suggests heart problems will visit you, especially because you smoke and are considered obese. I'ts not easy to quit, I know, but certainly it's possible. Losing weight is tough, also.
290867 tn?1333569278 With DS I lost a little weight and started gaining after I quit smoking, probably cause I was keeping my mouth busy, lol. This time I didn't gain a thing until about 23 weeks, and now at 39 weeks 3 days I've gained 35 lbs...NO clue how I've gained that much in 16 weeks, but yeah...if the dr doesn't seem worried, I wouldn't worry too much yet. As far as the smoking goes, with DS they got nasty and made me feel sick so I was able to quit easily. This time was harder.
644974 tn?1312758070 But if quitting smoking means putting on some extra weight, who cares!!! You quit smoking!!! That is considered the hardest addiction to kick! So congrats again, and dont worry about the weight gain! :) I am very proud of you! I haven't been able to manage to quit, but I am still cutting back.

Avatar f tn t look it after two months . he more than double his weight . after I had him n got my first job I was buying packs left and right. And tree . but when I got pregnant with this baby I stopped everything cold turkey and I don't plan on starting again . I want both my boys to be healthy .
Avatar f tn I was a smoker before I got pregnant and the day I found out and looked at that pregnancy test I never smoked again. Yes, you will always have cravings, but I'm sorry I think its wrong for people to smoke while they are pregnant and even breastfeeding. I don't judge anyone, I understand what its like to want and need to have a cigarette. But honestly its not hard to quit, all you gotta do is think about your beautiful baby being healthy and that's all that you need.
1043311 tn?1253217338 It's in the hair until you quit smoking, and then get a hair cut that is. After a while you can just shave your hair, and say so long nicotine in the hair! It will grow out eventually.
Avatar m tn Hi Nirban I smoked when I was younger too. Here in the USA, we have a patch. That helps. Dr can prescribe zyban & that's supposed to help too. When I quit, I did not use that stuff though. This is what I did. I bought some straws. Then I cut them to the length of a cigarette. I took them with me, so when I felt like smoking I'd hold a straw like a cigarette. I'd even puff or draw a breath on the straw. Helped to relax me. I'd have something to do with my hand too.
Avatar f tn My friend quit cold turkey and she said she felt better, although she had the urge to keep smoking she decided to chew gum (i swear she went through at least 4 packs of gum a day). you could just be worried about what your friends said and that though will be in the back of your mind for a while, but try to look to a more positive side.
Avatar f tn it doesnt just cause ur baby to have low birth weight. smoking has been linked to an increase in child asthma, skin disorders, risks for developing diabetes and types of cancers in childhood!!!
Avatar m tn Whether or not you stop smoking, probably has little to do with losing weight. But you will have to change your eating/exercise habits. Healthy food doesn't have to be unpleasant, neither does exercise. I'm sorry to say, that you can't keep doing exactly the same things and expect a different outcome.
Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old male who quit smoking about 90 days ago. I have since gained a good 20 lbs. I could stand to gain the weight so no problem there, it is the distribution of the weight gain that seems odd to me. Most the weight gain has been in my lower abdomen, lower back and buttocks. My buttocks have even developed cellulite which I know is uncommon in men. Do you think I have developed a hormone imbalance since quitting smoking cigarettes?
Avatar f tn Since many/most people gain weight when they quit smoking, your husband should start trying to lose, now, particularly if you think he might be diabetic or even pre-diabetic, which can be reversed. He needs to eat plenty of lean protein, such as chicken, fish, other lean meats, low/no fat dairy, beans, etc. He should also center most of his meals around veggies, which are very low in calories (leave off the sauces and use oils and herbs for seasoning).
Avatar n tn Additionally, I had heard that when you quit smoking it was common for a strong increase in appetite and weight gain. However, since I quit smoking I have completely lost my appetite, and have to force myself to eat when I am border line passing out. Is there any logical reason for this? I appreciate any advice you could give me!
Avatar f tn How on earth did you manage to lose all that weight?? I quit smoking in Aug 2007, but before that even, I had started to gain lots of weight. I had to quit smoking because of the growth of excess tissue on my vocal cords which caused me to have to have 2 surgeries to get rid of, as I could barely talk anymore. Just about the time I quit smoking, I was diagnosed with vitamin B12 deficiency because I was exhausted all the time.
Avatar f tn i have been trying to quit smoking for about 2 weeks. as in i finally starting making attempts not to smoke about 2 weeks ago. my fiance told me if i quit then he would quit doing what he does. i cant afford the nicotine patches or anything like that so i am trying very hard to wean myself off of cigarettes. ill do good for a day, then smoke 2 or 3 the next day. i have cut back A LOT and i am proud of myself for that, but i should have been finished smoking a week ago.
Avatar f tn I'm now pregnant with my 3rd child. My last one was 13 yrs ago. My other pregnancies I was much younger and able to quit within a couple weeks if knowing. This time I'm 14 weeks and still struggling to quit. Me losing my job 3 weeks ago hasn't helped. Now I'm always home without distraction, so I find myself smoking more. I want to quit! I've tried gum, nicorette, cough drops, and e-cigs. I get more than your typical angry or irritable without a cigarette.

Avatar n tn My question (concern) is that I have gained over 40 lbs in the last 2 years (quit smoking, quit drinking, quit moving) and somehow I want to lose at least 20 lbs before I agree to this surgery. How can I lose weight when I cannot do the most basic movements such as pick up something off the floor or put on my own socks?? I don't want to have this surgery with this much extra weight (I'm 5'5" and weigh 190) but I don't know where to begin. Help!!
Avatar f tn Congratulations on quitting smoking! One of the biggest issues with smoking during pregnancy is low birth weight babies. You've stopped at a time when babies really start picking up their weight. That occurs over the last several weeks, so you are giving your baby a good chance of picking up weight and being born at a more healthy weight.
