Hello, I am 29 yo considering OC to help hormonal imbalance (not so much pregnancy prevention). I have cystic acne along my jawline. I have been using spironolactone 50mg daily about a year. Overall, it's improved about 50%, but will worsen during pre-mentraul flare ups. However, my derm is hesitant about increasing my dose and suggested adding on OC.
Any reccomendation on what estrogen/progestin combo to try for acne?
I am wondering what is a good type of birth control to take for acne and that will regulate my period, but won't effect my hormones too much?
I have tried mulitple birth control such as ortho-tricyclen and multiple others that I can't remember the names to. They each helped with my acne and to regulate my period significantly but I didn't like taking them.
I'm 23 and on birth control (Loestrin 24). Normally my periods are somewhat regular, but really light and short. Last month I didn't have one, but I did have some slight spotting before my period was supposed to come. This month my period also skipped.
I have no other symptoms of PCOS except some acne on my chin (but occasional breakouts are not uncommon for me, I have oily skin, plus an expired skin product and eating wheat with my allergy may have caused this).
My gf had not been on birth control for a year or more. She began taking Lo Loestrin Fe on Oct. 20, the first day of her period. The side effects (increased acne, severe anxiety and depression, emotional lability) were so severe for her that she decided to stop before the pack was done. I believe she took roughly 2 weeks and a few days of the pack (maybe 3 weeks total), then quit them because she was so miserable.
I was on Loestrin 1/20 Fe for 2 years and it initially seemed to help the acne, but eventually it got worse. I switched to Estrostep 1/20 for 6 months and it got even worse. Then I switched to Ortho Cyclen in hope that the higher estrogen dosage would help. It has and my face is almost clear after 3 months. However, it has made me gain weight and be bloated all the time. This is not okay, so I definitely need to switch again because I cannot afford to buy all new clothes in the next size up.
I had two dermoid cysts/tumors, one on each ovary (the one on left ovary was very large) that had been misdiagnosed for years. Only in the last two years was I in any kind of pain. I had emergency surgery last May to remove the dermoids. I did not have a real period until March. I was put on Loestrin birth control pills to "give my ovaries a rest" and stop functional cysts from occuring. But for six months I was in excruciating pain.
Both surgeons told me they do not understand why I have such inflammation per mri and just inject me with steroids. 3 months ago I started on loestrin for perimenopausal sympts that are so severe , including continual sweating , that it was necessary. Since the start of the loestrin , all of my symptoms have been so severe I am missing work . Today my Md. just increased my levothyroxine to 100mcg but did give me the option of the cytomel route. .
I just want to feel better.
I have been on Loestrin for nearly a year now. I take it continuously so I do not get a period. This has stopped the endo pain. I'm hoping that it is also preserving my fertility until we are ready to try again.
I do like Loestrin. I have had major depression and I feel fine on L. Sorry though no experience with Yaz. I think L is worth a try. It's different for everyone so you will only know by trying.
m wondering if these could be causing anxiety and depression. i have addisons disease so I have to take steroids everyday, for the past year I have been on loestrin 24 e and also I was on celebrex but have since switched to meloxicam. I've been reading a lot about how birth control can cause depression and anxiety even after being on it for quite some time. Lately I am so anxious and depressed it's ruling my life.
hello! I am a 30 year old recently diagnosed with PCOS. I have been feeling like garbage recently and have not been able to find a doctor who can help. I recently went through my lab results from September and see my Estradiol is <5.00 pg/mL. I am also on Lo Loestrin. Can the birth control be causing the very low numbers, my PCOS, something else? The numbers are those of someone in menopause, so it is a bit concerning. Any insight is appreciated!
Hey everyone. So this is the story. Last summer, I went on Loestrin Birth Control Pills.I was on it for about three months, then stopped taking it. Since them, I've had bad anxiety/depression. This might sound crazy, but I was wondering if the hormones could have somehow permanently altered my hormones/moods? And if there's anything I can do to reverse it. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
before i started taking the pill i didnt have a period for about 2 1/2 years is this causing it? i really just need to know what to do im worried. thanks.
Hi, I'm currently taking Loestrin 24 Fe, because I don't have enough hormones in my body, causing an irregulation.. Anyways, I would like to know more about this pill? Would it increase my possibilities of conceiving after I stop taking them? Would I gain weight? Thank you.
I recently started taking Loestrin 24. I started experiencing light bleeding during sex which lasts for a day or 2 then stops, but then occurs again the next time. It only happens during/after sex. I've never had this happen before. There was nothing abnormal when I had my check up and was given the prescription. Has anyone ever heard of this happening with this brand?
I am currently 18 years old and have been taking amoxicillin for approximately two years as prescribed to me by my dermatologist to help treat my acne. It has done wonders for my skin but I have been feeling depressed and almost never happy. I researched a bit to find that many parents have issues with their toddlers and younger children having mood swings and depressive behaviors after taking the antibiotic but no anecdotes about older children.
Has anyone ever switched from Loestrin 24 to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo? Anybody ever gotten pregnant while on the "lo estrogen" pills? I switched from Loestrin to Ortho because I started not having periods AT ALL on the Loestrin and I had CRAZY PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS. I got a blood test but it was negative. Now I am on Ortho and am a little nervous because I've heard and read that some people have gotten pregnant on this pill. Any advice????
Hi, i have been on lo loestrin fe for 1 month. Today i am taking second brown pill, which is also the last one...i feel menstrual pain for a few days, but no menstruation. I am worried! Is pregnancy possible if i had intercourse with my bf (while i was on the pill) but he had never ejaculated inside? It is written that lo loestrin fe is protecting you from the first day if u are starting on the first day of your period. Thats how i did. But why is my period not coming?
I have been taking Loestrin (generic) for about a year. My doctor gave me the brand as a sample to save some money. I am in week three of the first pack. My period started yesterday. What can cause this early bleeding?
I've not had any problems with Yaz or Loestrin 24. I'm on Loestrin right now because Yaz made me pretty low emotionally. However, I think because they are so low dose pills, they shouldn't cause such a problem.
I've heard bad thinkgs about Seasonal/ique, though. I dunno. I take Loestrin continiously and haven't had an issue, I don't see why you would bother with a pill specifically marketed as "less periods" when you can have them with any.
Somehow I still produce plenty of lubrication its amazing. The only good thing from the birth control is it has cleared up my awful acne. Sex on birth control pills hurts way worse and is not bearable with same pain as before just intensified. Also, what is the point of being on birth control when you can't even get aroused and sex is too painful. I don't like the idea of using birth control that requires me to have to stick something up inside me.
