Avatar m tn Hello, I am 29 yo considering OC to help hormonal imbalance (not so much pregnancy prevention). I have cystic acne along my jawline. I have been using spironolactone 50mg daily about a year. Overall, it's improved about 50%, but will worsen during pre-mentraul flare ups. However, my derm is hesitant about increasing my dose and suggested adding on OC. Any reccomendation on what estrogen/progestin combo to try for acne?
Avatar m tn I'm 23 and on birth control (Loestrin 24). Normally my periods are somewhat regular, but really light and short. Last month I didn't have one, but I did have some slight spotting before my period was supposed to come. This month my period also skipped. I have no other symptoms of PCOS except some acne on my chin (but occasional breakouts are not uncommon for me, I have oily skin, plus an expired skin product and eating wheat with my allergy may have caused this).
Avatar n tn I am wondering what is a good type of birth control to take for acne and that will regulate my period, but won't effect my hormones too much? I have tried mulitple birth control such as ortho-tricyclen and multiple others that I can't remember the names to. They each helped with my acne and to regulate my period significantly but I didn't like taking them.
Avatar f tn Anyone else have cystic acne? Im a little over 8 weeks and ftm. Im 35 yo and always had acne in the past. Not fun and hoping it doesn't get worse.
Avatar f tn Does anyone get small cystic pimples all over body? What causes it and is there anything I can do about it?
Avatar m tn hi, my daughter is 16 years old. she has cystic acne on her face. chest and back. we have tried everything. peels. accutane, birth control pills, creams. so on and so on. is there something or someone out there doing cutting edge treatments? drug trials ? please just a product name or a name of a doctor that can help beyond the norm.
Avatar f tn My 16 year old daughter is suffering from moderate/severe cystic acne. She has been through several antibiotics with no results. She is currently on Bactrim and due to go back to Dermatologist tomorrow with suggestion of starting Accutane. She woke up with this acne in mid-December and began taking Vyvanse a few weeks before. Could there be any correlation? I don't want to jump into Accutane if Vyvanse could be causing it but she is so self-conscious.
Avatar m tn sounds like cystic acne to me. Cystic acne doesn;t usually have a 'head' that you can pop. Try applying benzoyl peroxide preparation on it to dry it out.
Avatar f tn I don't believe they are typically related, however, alcoholism can severely throw your system out of alignment (as can withdrawal for a little while) - diet, sleep patterns, social activities - EVERYTHING is going through a change so, I'd try to consider what is causing the acne? Hormonal changes, oily skin, change of season, new skin lotions/creams, etc... and work in reverse order.
Avatar f tn I am looking for help in regards to my 13 year old daughter. She has severe cystic acne for the past 7 months. The cystic acne was just beginning late last year in 2013. The oral antibiotics were of no further help so we started Accutane in Dec 2013. She had the terrible initial flare but it has not stopped!! She started out on Accutane 30mg twice a day and then bumped up to 40mg twice a day. Then dropped to 40mg once a day. She weighs about 155lbs.
Avatar f tn Hmm... did the doctor say it's acne as well? it sounded to me like cystic acne till you mentioned they seem to fluctuate in size. As far as I know, cystic acne don;t fluctuate in size. Can you ask your doctor to name them exactly? did u not go for a follow up where he records any improvement, etc.?usually cystic acne are dark and round and can appear anywhere, esp face, arms, shoulders, chest etc. the contraceptive pills should have taken care of them though.

1935302 tn?1323481805 First of all here is an image with a close up inset: http://i41.tinypic.com/afc6bk.jpg This spot appeared around three months ago. It is actually darker and more bruise like than the photo. It has always been painful. A sharp stabbing pain under pressure. In the past three days the pain is fairly constant without it being touch it's not a dull ache. The spot has also become warmer than the rest of my skin. When pressed it feels like a fluid filled blister under the skin.
Avatar n tn My gf had not been on birth control for a year or more. She began taking Lo Loestrin Fe on Oct. 20, the first day of her period. The side effects (increased acne, severe anxiety and depression, emotional lability) were so severe for her that she decided to stop before the pack was done. I believe she took roughly 2 weeks and a few days of the pack (maybe 3 weeks total), then quit them because she was so miserable.
Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to cystic acne. Cystic acne is the most severe form of acne. Cystic acne affects deeper skin tissue than the more superficial inflammation from common acne. Since they are severe, so systemic medications are usually required. The treatment consists of topical and oral antibiotics, tretinoin, oral contraceptives in females and Intralesional corticosteroid injections. Very severe cases may need excision and drainage.
Avatar n tn I was on Loestrin 1/20 Fe for 2 years and it initially seemed to help the acne, but eventually it got worse. I switched to Estrostep 1/20 for 6 months and it got even worse. Then I switched to Ortho Cyclen in hope that the higher estrogen dosage would help. It has and my face is almost clear after 3 months. However, it has made me gain weight and be bloated all the time. This is not okay, so I definitely need to switch again because I cannot afford to buy all new clothes in the next size up.
Avatar m tn My 23 year old daughter was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis several years ago. One of the symptoms she developed was cystic acne, which we were told can be caused by the colitis. She's presently on Liadyl and her ulcerative colitis is under control but the cystic acne will not go away. She goes to the dermatologist constantly for injections, but the cysts just go down for a day and come right back up again. The dermatologist has given her a few prescriptions but nothing helps at all.
Avatar f tn I have alot of white heads , acne from white heads and cystic acne all over my face i have tried everything even medication(homeopathy- kali brom 30) bt its not helping at all. Its still growing and nothing seems to work!
Avatar n tn I have cystic acne on my face - it turned out to be allergy related. I do not touch or use things on my face and then I do not get the cysts. But all it takes is to wash my hands without my dove soap at a restaurant and then touch my face to realize I must have been allergic to the soap.
Avatar f tn ll get scarring because of the type of acne (cystic acne is apparently more prone to scarring). Is there any way to minimize the scarring? What do you ladies use to cover up? when does it go away?
Avatar f tn Both surgeons told me they do not understand why I have such inflammation per mri and just inject me with steroids. 3 months ago I started on loestrin for perimenopausal sympts that are so severe , including continual sweating , that it was necessary. Since the start of the loestrin , all of my symptoms have been so severe I am missing work . Today my Md. just increased my levothyroxine to 100mcg but did give me the option of the cytomel route. . I just want to feel better.
Avatar n tn However cystic acne needs to be treated.
Avatar f tn Anyone having issues with acne? If so, what is helping you? Doctor prescriptions aren't helping bc they can only prescribe certain ointments.
