Lidocaine for rectal pain

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for rectal pain

lidoderm

Avatar n tn Have had rectal pain for 2 months, thought it was hemorrhoids, GI and family doctors said it wasn't and didn't know what it was from for sure. Said to see a pain management doctor thinking it is a nerve in my recturm? However, I am confused as to what the pain management dr would do since no definite diagnosis. I tried everything over the counter including lidocaine with no relief. The pain is constant and only relief is when I sleep. Worried!!!
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar m tn I developed some small external hemorrhoids within just 2-3 days of starting incivek. About the 4th day I developed severe (internal) rectal pain every single time I passed stools, even when they were soft, which they always were after starting the medications. The best description of the pain is that I felt like I was passing shards of glass (and that is NOT an exaggeration). I would break out in a cold sweat from the pain and I thought I would pass out. My doctor prescribed 3% lidocaine/0.
Avatar f tn Went back a third time and they did a rectal exam and diagnosed me with fecal impaction. They numbed me lidocaine for the mouth up my butt and tried a enema. Didn't work. Sent me home. I came home and ended up having a seizure from pushing so hard to go. Went back to outpatient ER by ambulance and they numbed me again with lidocaine and got about a quarter of a cup of seeds out by manual disimpaction. That hurt so bad!!!!
Avatar f tn I thought for sure it was the most recent partner I had because within days of sleeping with him these symptoms started, but he just informed me that someone else he has been sleeping with for a long time tested negative for everything. He is getting tested tomorrow. I have only had two new partners this year, and no anal intercourse with the other, and we were together in February and I had no symptoms.
Avatar n tn physician assistant did digital rectal exam. no hemmrhoids, no bleeding when tested. gave me lidocaine 3% 0.5% hydrocortisone cream. started last night 1st of 20 applications. during night sleeping I felt a slight pin head or smaller like under the skin outside of anus around 4 o'clock position. It feels like a sharp like cartiliage like projection. when sitting on it is when it itches. I think the friction is causing the itching.
Avatar n tn Finally, after being referred to a Rectal Surgeon, it was diagnosed as an annal fissure. By now it had become chronic with no relief from the pain after a BM. The pain usually lasted about 6 hours and then gradually reduced as I would go into the evening. The surgeon recommended a sphincterotomy with a an excise of the fissure and the removal of a skin tag. It has now been four days since the surgery and I no longer have the kind of pain associated with BM's.
Avatar n tn BY the way Dr. Moldwin a big IC guru says to soak in a warm bath for 15min 3x day for urethral pain.) Kevin the compounding pharmacist at Dakota pharmacy specializes in treating IC patients, he can make urethral suppositories as well, that put the lidocaine and valium etc. right in the urethra itself. He will work with your physician and custom make meds that your doctor wants to use in them.
Avatar f tn Yea sounds like hemmorhoids. You can use some tuck pads after each time you use the restroom to relieve the pain and itching (if there's any) and take some stool softener daily and don't strain when you go.
Avatar n tn A fissure can cause you pain or it could be a rectal spasm. I had both and the pain persisted for almost a year. The spasms would knock me down for the count but happened only a few times a week. Doc perscribed vallium which seemed to do the trick. Warm baths helped also.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever used a pain patch for their TMJ pain? have some Lidoderm patches, which contain 5% Lidocaine, which I have for my fibaro and spine problems. I just got back from Reno, Nv, which was an 1143 mile round trip. The trip down was fine, but the trip back today was in rain, hail, wind and snow. Needless to say now in more pain than ever. I had a massage while there, concentrated on the head, neck and shoulders. Masseuse commented I had a major major amt of tight muscles and knots.
Avatar m tn I had severe rectal spasms that started in June 2010 and lasted for almost 3 months. Pain occurred immediately after a bowel movement and was so severe that I could not even stand up for 15 to 20 minutes after the BM. I was diagnosed over 30 years ago as having an "fissure" in my rectum. For over 30 years I have had bleeding and hemorrhoids, about 2 times per year, for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, but never had the rectal spasms until 2010.
Avatar n tn Though obviously I can not comment directly on this procedure since I am a women, however I have had to go through some very unpleasant and painful in office procedures as well. One of which my URO told me in advance multiple times would be very painful. Knowing this I requested to be able to take pain medications before the procedure. I ask him to use the lidocaine as well and had pain medication afterward as well.
Avatar f tn I had a follow-up PM appointment today. I haven't seen her in a couple of months. We stopped my Cymbalta about a month ago and it made a HUGE difference in how I feel mentally and emotionally. Apparently that wasn't the drug for me, and it makes no difference in my pain, which was the point of going on it to begin with. I had a terrible fibromyalgia flare-up before Thanksgiving. The worst in a long time. To the point I had to crawl up the stairs and go down on my bum.
1571533 tn?1322943509 Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
383138 tn?1314167773 So when I told him about the pain dr. wanting to do a lidocaine IV infusion for my pain, the cardio. said no because if the lidocaine triggers that type of fast hearbeat again, my heart probably won't survive it, even with medical intervention. It would be done in a hospital with cardiac monitors because the lidocaine does have heart warnings on it for anyone getting it (even with normal hearts).
1749655 tn?1321800934 Something I have been using for several years (after a visit to Thailand in 2008, where they were everywhere) is a Mr. Bidet. It is basically a squirt hose (google it, amazon sells them for $40) it connects to your toilet easy as pie and reduces/eliminates the need for wet wipes and toilet paper.. which reduces irritation. Plus you just feel so cool and clean afterwards!
Avatar m tn He put things like Vaseline, Desitin or lidocaine on the area to protect the skin and reduce the pain. He also took 1 Loperimide per day for awhile, which prevented diarrhea as that made the problem worse.
Avatar n tn This is a question for your doctor or a pharmacist.
Avatar m tn Hi, six months after my left-side thoracotomy I was yesterday told by my surgeon (USA) that I need to get Lidocaine intercostal nerve-block injections for a persistent pain issue I'm having. Here in my country, Cyprus, though, it's impossible to find someone who has experience in injecting Lidocaine on the thorax. So, my second option is UK, but still I would need to find someone specialized on this type of nerve-block. Any recommendations?
Avatar m tn However, I get phenol shots in my neck for neck pain without lidocaine, which is painful. I will probably never never know what really happened.
