Lexapro weight neutral

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro weight neutral

Avatar n tn I have been on Lexapro for about a year and a half. I have gained close to 20 pounds and it's still climbing. I was very concerned about weight gain and my doctor told me Lexapro was "weight neutral". I initially lost a few pounds and then a slow but steady climb. I try dieting and exercise but do not loose any significant weight which leaves me no incentive to continue trying. I am 5'2 and now about 145 pounds which of course really depresses me.
Avatar f tn Same with weight loss, some folks eat when anxious or depressed and when they feel better, that compulsion is less and they lose weight. This is part of the weight loss and weight gain that you see with antidepressants. And why any same antidepressant can cause a different weight reaction (gain, loss or neutral) in different people who take it. However, there are also people that do not change their eating patterns at all that gain weight and it can only be assumed it is from the drug.
Avatar n tn I am finally off and hoping that I can lose some of this weight. If anyone has a success story about losing weight after quitting lexapro, please post it. I could use one.
Avatar n tn I can tell you this you are the third person including myself that has gained weight from the Lexapro. I gained 20 lbs. But, now I am off the Lexapro and focusing on getting the weight off. I feel great and love the energy the B12 shots are giving me.\ Goodluck.
213972 tn?1206053788 I was on paxil 20 mg for 7 years, and i have been on lexapro 10mg now for months. I love lexapro! No side affects! Paxil was awfull for me to get off of, it took me 5 months to wean off of it. And you do not gain weight from Lexapro. My best friends wife is a psycologist, and she told me that lexapro is a "neutral" , while some others do have a weight gain effect.
Avatar f tn Most psychiatrists would probably insist on trying other things first. Lamictal is weight neutral, although it isn't so great with mania. If it's a drug-induced weight gain, though, then something truly weight neutral will make you lose. Buspar might be a good place to go for long term anxiety control--it's got a low side effect profile, and plays well with bipolar in general. But seriously, you need to get the metabolic things checked out.
Avatar f tn I think if you read the pi on paxil it has equal weight gain to weight loss making it weight neutral. My friend takes it and it never effected her weight at all. So I wouldn't let that scare you as that is patient dependent. However, you tried it in the past and had agitation/ hyperactivity from it. (you'd probably lose weight over the longhaul with that . . .) So you may want to consider lexapro or celexa.
Avatar f tn Have you found it helpful and has it caused side effects such as weight gain and insomnia? I've heard it's a weight neutral antidepressant but the label says weight gain is one of the most frequent side effects.
Avatar f tn Horrific weight gain for someone who already fights her weight. I know Lexapro is known for this which is why I take only 10mg and went on Buspar and Lamictal as my reseach indicated both are neutral. I really like how I feel. I read something, but now can't find it, where there is a new Beta Blocker in the same catergory that started with an "o" I believe, and is not to supposed to create a weight gain - please help me.
Avatar n tn I thought these 2 meds were known to be weight neutral or cause weight loss. My doctor knows my concern about the weight issue as this is something I have never fought to maintain while everything else in life seems to be a fight. If I stopped taking all meds, would I lose the weight and go back to my normal size. I do lack motivation that's for sure! I think or say I will start a program and don't.
Avatar n tn I switched from Lexapro to Wellbutrin because of weight gain and high blood pressure and have had wonderful results. Blood pressure is normal again and I have lost weight. Hopefully this medication will work for you too..
Avatar f tn Some have weight loss, some gain, some both. Medication affects everyone differently so it's hard to say until you take it. I've actually list weight since going on lithium, but I've heard of other people having quite the opposite happen to them.
Avatar n tn I feel a little less bloated, and I can feel the muscle underneath the fat which is better than before, so I think some of the bloating was due to the Lexapro. The weight has leveled off to 30s pound over my target (that is, my weight 4 years ago). I think the nutritionist is starting to take me seriously, and said that the SSRI's can effect metabolism and that can take a while to go back to 'normal'.
Avatar n tn There are even some meds, especially antidepressants, that cause weight loss in some and weight gain in others. I gained weight on most mood stabilizers. The biggest culprits for me were Depakote, Remeron- an antidepressant, and Zyprexa- an antipsychotic. Now I take Lithobid, which is a slow release lithium. It tends to not cause as many side effects as regular Lithium. I am also on Seroquel. I was finally able to lose all of the weight I gained.
Avatar n tn Prozac and Serzone were weight neutral, but lost effectiveness or didn't work at all. I started antidepressants, at 27, 5'7" and 125 lbs. I am now 33 and weigh 178. When I have gone off my meds in the past (I used to have a fantasy that I wouldn't need them forever.)or have been transitioning to a new one, I have lost SIGNIFICANT amounts of weight. When I went off Paxil in 2003, I lost 30 pounds in 3 months (and no-- my eating/exercise didn't change).
Avatar n tn It did work well for depression, and I did have the beneficial side effect of the weight loss as well. I have taken Zoloft and Lexapro in the past which also worked well for depression, but similar to others on this site, I couldn't stand the weight gain. So I tapered off and ultimately quit. I have to be honest and say that when I took the Wellbutrin (in my late 30's) my figure looked amazing (better then in highschool).
Avatar f tn Geodon I gained no weight from but Abilify I did but I think it's because it made me start eating more.
Avatar m tn My stupid psychiatrist said Lexapro is weight neutral but I've read forums and everybody is porking up on lexapro. What should I do?
Avatar f tn From reading around the Internet, it seems lamictal is commonly weight-neutral but does cause weight gain in some people. In my case, enough to cause enough weight-related health risks and self-esteem issues, I am going to go off it.
Avatar f tn I have been on celexa for many years and found it to be weight neutral and I have never had a problem losing weight either
Avatar f tn I took Cymbalta for two years and I found it to be weight neutral - no weight gain. Your weight problems are more likely because of your thyroid than Cymbalta.
Avatar n tn Hi, You are doing good with the lexapro it seems. That is a positive sign. The major part of your weight gain must be due to lexapro. Now what you need to do is try n remain off lexapro for about 2 more weeks. Eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Once you have stopped taking lexapro for about 4 weeks, try and decrease the dose of propranolol to 60 mg.
182493 tn?1348056515 ie weight gain, sexual side effects, speediness, grogginess. and then there are some like Lexapro that are pretty neutral.
415867 tn?1323369103 By rana2000 , hello everybody I want your experiences with Prozac is it weight neutral? Does one lose or gain weight from this drug?i'v heard that most people do lose weight from it at least initially but not predictable on the long term use. Are it's side effects tolerable? Is it effective for depression? Please guies I want your help and experiences regarding this drug. Thanks in advance.
1220347 tn?1345432121 Compared to the other mood stabilizers lamotrigine is the best tolerated and is weight neutral. One friend of mine gets dose related visual side effects like blurry vision while on it. Everyone is a bit different. Good luck. Navigating the world of medication is confusing but necessary. I developed a relationship with my pdoc that we discuss what the next steps are and I often get a choice of options. It isn't just him saying 'take this drug' and I do so blindly.
Avatar n tn they generally prescribe anti depressants for anxiety disorders.. I am on them for that.. and i have xanax in case of a panic attack.. don't need em very often.. Lexapro helped my anxiety sooooo much.. never tried zoloft... I always ask for ones that are "weight neutral" as far as side effects I am small and don't wanna lost weight but I don't wanna gain weight either..
Avatar n tn Lexapro, Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor and Cymbalta. Lexapro the third time around, Zoloft, Effexor and Cymbalta hurt more than they helped. Prozac didn't do squat. It didn't help, but it didn't hurt. I'm still on Klonopin: .25mg 3x a day. (.75mg a day). It works wonders, but doesn't eradicate my anxiety. It just makes me feel more separate from it so I can handle it better, which is what Lexapro used to do for me.
1618921 tn?1298826421 all the SSRI's are not weight neutral, they will slow down the metabolism... To be honnest, I never heard of someone who had success with the Celexa and anxiety especially panic disorder... but try it, you will see... if you have too much side-effects you can ask to try the Lexapro, who is the same but improved... less side-effects on some peoples and better for the anxiety... ( not for me)...
Avatar n tn and my primary physician both claim that the zoloft should be weight neutral and that there is another cause for the weight loss...which has me more worried. I am the skinniest I have been since jr. high. Most of my clothes hang on me and people ask me what is wrong...I look sick, etc. I have had no other changes to my diet or exercise plan. The weight seems to be dropping faster than it did at first. Any insight?
Avatar f tn tamlloyd, Trileptal is a good choice if you are concerned about weight, because it's considered weight neutral. Good luck and remember that taking your meds every day & every dose even when you feel stable is the only way to manage BP effectively.
