Lexapro withdrawal and weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal and weight loss

lexapro

Avatar f tn The side effects were the ones you mentioned- weight gai and loss of interest sexually. Also I have chronic sinusitis and she mentioned to me that in some cases people's antidepressants actually exasperated their sinus issues-thus the switch. In the past 3 months I have also changed my diet to much healthier whole, real foods in an effort to get healthier and lose weight. I've lost 17 pounds so far and I had hoped the switch to wellbutin might possibly help with my weight loss too.
Avatar m tn My big question is when are the doctors going to stop telling everyone that they do not gain weight on antidepressants, I have been on lexapro now for 2 yrs, and have gained 25 lbs, I watch what I eat exercise, dance, etc... and the weight will NOT come off. My doctor tells me well you are are at the age of premenopause and at that age, that you are going to gain weight, well I am getting tired of hearing it.
Avatar m tn point(stopped working) and i was experiencing really bad depression/anxiety again after being on zoloft for 18months. My doc tried Lexapro but i experienced very fast weight gain since being on it so he stopped it. i saw him tonight for a check up appointment on the Medication adjustments. Being the lexapro made me gain weight He decided to try effexor for me I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this medication? I've heard a side effect is actually weight loss?
Avatar f tn People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.
Avatar n tn Depends on the meds you are taking and as for the weight loss, many people lose it once they are off, I am still on them and tho I find it hard to lose weight, I would rather gain then go crazy.
Avatar f tn My doctor gave me a script for 10 mg of lexapro. I have taken 2 doses of the drug and am having second thoughts about the need for such srong medication when in fact l am in grief and have never sufferred from depression in y life. My questioin is, can l stop safely after 2 pills..or a need to taper?
Avatar f tn I have not taken Lexapro, but I have taken other SSRIs (Prozac, Effexor and Cymbalta). All of them caused the brain zaps. Effexor was the worst offender, and I tapered it ridiculously slowly, and the problem hung on for a very long time. At least I found out it was a withdrawal problem by them - after stopping Prozac I had the brain zaps and suspected I was getting multiple sclerosis or something.
432623 tn?1485324477 My son was killed about 6 weeks ago, and after a month my family physician started me on Lexapro, 10 mg at night and Ambien 10 mg. I felt a little tired & a weird feeling in my head the first few days but other than that it seems to be helping, and I am able to sleep, which significantly helps my coping abilities during the day, and am more focused. I keep reading horrible stories of people who go off Lexapro and have awful problems. How likely is that to occur?
Avatar f tn I thought it was time to try to come off it and see how a feel because I am in my early 30s and have young kids and wanted to feel good abour myself again and lose the weight. Well, the first few days off of Lexapro were pretty good and then on about day 5, I started to feel HORRIBLE. I was sweating horribly, had a constant headache and nausea. I was so dizzy. It has just been a disaster.
Avatar f tn I took Lexapro (10mg) every night for almost 3 years... Tried to stop, had horrible withdrawals symptoms and went back to it. Now, I'm off again, not my choice! I have a horrible insurance, my psichiatrist retired, and I'm on a waiting list for a new doc! October 31st was my last half pill! Of corse, I'm hipper hipochondriac to the limit! I self diagnosed myself with skin cancer, my kids with lymphoma, and for weeks now, I'm having stomach/abdominal discomfort!
616534 tn?1233236497 I am now on Bupropreon (sorry for the spelling) which is the opposite of Lexapro and it works better for me as it treats my ADD and my mood swings.
Avatar f tn Same with weight loss, some folks eat when anxious or depressed and when they feel better, that compulsion is less and they lose weight. This is part of the weight loss and weight gain that you see with antidepressants. And why any same antidepressant can cause a different weight reaction (gain, loss or neutral) in different people who take it. However, there are also people that do not change their eating patterns at all that gain weight and it can only be assumed it is from the drug.
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea and depression and anxiety. I was put on Seroquel and Lexapro. These last two helped lessen the depression and anxiety but made my sleepiness and fatigue much worse. Also, I was putting on a lot of weight due to a strong craving for sweets every afternoon. My psychiatrist had told me if the fatigue got really bad I could cut the Lexapro in half, from 10mg to 5. I just started doing this 2 days ago.
600041 tn?1356160129 Yesterday (Tuesday) my Psychiatrist basically informed me that the medicines I'm currently on, Klonopin and Gabapentin, are essentially doing 'all they can do' for me. I've been suffering from some rather severe depression lately, with anxiety continuing to be the beast that never sleeps.
Avatar n tn A few months ago, my friends and I started to notice that I have been losing an excessive amount of weight. I don't work out and I eat regularly. I know my medication (I take lexapro) isn't responsible for this because I've already consulted with my doctor about it and they say it's nothing. This is really starting to scare me. My menstrual cycles are also regular too and I don't think this can be a factor to this.
Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin is more stimulating than Lexapro, so it causes less weight gain and less loss of libido. Doesn't mean it's a weight loss aid, just means it doesn't promote weight gain the way ssris do with some people because it doesn't slow the metabolism. The weight loss should come over time if you stay off the ssris, assuming the wellbutrin is working for you as an antidepressant.
Avatar f tn Hi Lori, I just wanted to say I am on this journey with you. I've been on Lexapro for five years (with the ocassional break). I have acute chronic anxiety and panic attacks. I've been weaning off 20 mg of Lexapro. I too am beginning to experience some of the symptoms that reveal my anxiety disorder. I cannot do SSRI's anymore - I've been on Paxil and Lexapro, both left me with weight gain (which dropped off quickly), and a complete loss of creativity.
480705 tn?1208228550 There apparently is a connection between sleep deprivation and weight gain and also between stress and weight gain. Since you are on medication, I assume your parents are in the loop about everything that is going on with you, I hope you continue to keep them informed of everything you are going through. And also, good for you for being so proactive about your health.
Avatar f tn There are plenty of antidpressants on the market and sure there are ones that do not cause weight gain. In fact some might cause weight loss. My hypo sister takes lexapro, she hasn't gained weight, in fact she lost big time, although not saying it is due to lexapro. Thyroid treatment should be based on the latest TSH level with another test in 4 to 6 weeks to confirm the first TSH test. Treatment should not be based on previous years because TSH can go back to normal in some people.
Avatar f tn Lexapro can cause weight loss or weight gain. I have heard about Wellbutrin for weight loss. But I wouldn't recommend that he just starts using it again for weight loss. It was for sepression so the dosage prescibed was for that condition. Encourage him to see a doctor.
Avatar f tn m taking Rivotril (clonazepam) on a regular basis--actually increasing the dosage steadily for the past week--but I want to start Lexapro (escitalopram) and try to reduce the clonazepam. I want to hear from those of you who have taken this antidepressant for anxiety disorder and sleep issues and see if it's a good choice.
20790871 tn?1507161421 4% body fat), my training intensified, and I started two medications for depression (Lexapro and Wellbutrin). I gained the weight back after I quit competitive running, but the hair thinning persists. Another thing to note, I have never been an illness-prone person, but lately I have been getting sick a lot and have had several infections over the past few months.
Avatar n tn Our PCP is stumped and our psychiatric nurse is doubtful that this is a medication issue. We don't know where else to turn. My husband takes a small dose of lexapro and has been doing so for 3 years. He takes lorezepam occasionally when he has trouble sleeping. He went through a period of early waking a year ago spring and that occasionally comes back. Out of nowhere, a year ago, he started getting lightheadedness at different times of day, once falling after he completely blacked out.
Avatar n tn I was looking back on my weight loss chart and saw that within 3 weeks of starting lexapro each time, I had a significant weight gain. I went from 175 to 185 the first time and then continued to gain despite following the program and exercising. When I went off the med, the weight began to drop and I made it down below 200. I started it again in February this year and within 3 weeks, here came another 10 pounds and it's been steadilly going up ever since.
