Lexapro withdrawal and weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal and weight loss

lexapro

Avatar n tn I have been on lexapro for .... about a year and a half now, maybe two years. Once I started taking it i immediately realized that I hadn't felt that good since high school, i felt like my old self again from 12 years ago. So I thought it was a God-send drug. Well, my insurance doesn't cover it so every once in a great while there will be a month go by where I can't afford it and will have no choice but to go without temporarily. And let me tell ya, that is some scary stuff!
Avatar n tn I just wanted to share my story about Lexapro. I took one 10mg Lexapro pill and 8 hours later had a severe adverse reaction to the drug. My life was about to become a nightmare.(This incident happened 14 months ago) My experience is rare but it is important to stress the dangers not explained by professionals in the field and there are many similarities between my experience and that of those who experience terrible withdrawal symptoms from SSRI's.
Avatar n tn I am glad to hear i am not alone in this awful experience called lexapro. I started my adventure with AD with wellbutrin about 16 months ago. I can't recall feeling different except that i began to sweat profusely. I could use deoderant 3 times a day and it didn't matter. I switched to lexapro about 7 months ago which almost instantaneously made me feel what i guess is happiness. I felt an inner calmness and my social anxiety disappeared. It was the most content feeling.
Avatar n tn I have been on Lexapro for about a year and a half. I have gained close to 20 pounds and it's still climbing. I was very concerned about weight gain and my doctor told me Lexapro was "weight neutral". I initially lost a few pounds and then a slow but steady climb. I try dieting and exercise but do not loose any significant weight which leaves me no incentive to continue trying. I am 5'2 and now about 145 pounds which of course really depresses me.
Avatar n tn The tingling in fingers, the mood swings, the stomach issues, and yes the weight loss and FATIGUE. I am only on 50 mg, and will not take more. I am surprised that so many people want to use this drug as a weight loss product. This is not a weight loss product, it is a serious drug, with serious side effects that you have to live with for the rest of your life. If I did not have to take it, I would not.
Avatar f tn I have been taking oral vitamin and mineral supplements, and I'm also getting B12 shots for the weight loss and malnutrition I had from my gallbladder disease killing my appetite, so I had multiple vitamin deficiency problems at once. I googled and found this page with dietary suggestions: http://bipolar.about.com/cs/antidep/a/0207_ssridisc2.
803456 tn?1237924339 I have tried to lose weight for years and learned that lexapro is notorious for weight gain and hindering in its loss. Can I expect to be able to lose some now?
Avatar n tn When I decided in March of last year to stop the effexor, even with tapering off of it like my Doctor told me, I still had bad withdrawal. I ended up stopping effexor and then joining weight watchers, that seemed to help my depression more than any medications. Good luck to you. You also have to remember that everyone reacts different to medications. What made me gain weight may make you lose. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I have been on Lexapro for about 3 months started on 10 mg then increased to 20mg for anxiety and started having side effects...weight loss, memory loss, nausea, itchy red patches on my skin and uncontrollable yawning. But the biggest concern was my weight loss, since I am already struggling to keep weight on. So my doctor wanted me to taper off by going to 10 mg for four days to finish the medication then start a new medicine Pristiq...
Avatar n tn I, too have been on Lexapro for a long time and suffer from brain fog and short term memory loss. Finding words can be difficult especially as I am in the mental health field myself and am always going to seminars and learning new things and retaining information is so important. I definitely believe it is the medication, which is very helpful in other ways. It's a really difficult tradeoff to have to make!
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info - Yes - it did include limbs aching, Carpal tunnel which I had under control (not now) and of course the memory loss for the Lexapro. Most people who post think that it is great and I was so hoping that it would be for me - not. I am going to call my psy. tomorrow about the pains and memory loss now that I am on Lamictal - it is helping with the depression.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist is weening me off the Lexapro and is giving me Topamax which should induce weight-loss and also lessen the side effects of going off the Lexapro. Unfortunately, there is a lot of side effects of Topomax as well but weight gain is not one of them and need to loose the weight now !!!!
Avatar n tn helps with depression and helps with weight loss. I swear by it..I too gained about 15 pounds on Lexapro and Wellbutrin and didn't like how it made me feel. 5 htp has almost no side effects.. a little jittery for first week and that's it.
Avatar n tn On my one month post NB recheck with the GP, I was taken off prozac and put on Lexapro (because of major weight loss and general shaky/week feeling) and she told me to take the lexapro in AM instead of PM. Also put me on trazadone 50 mg in PM along side of Xanax. After one month I asked to begin to wean off Xanax. got the ok. Very slowly began to wean. Once that was done, tried and succeeded to wean off trazadone. Once that was done, I tried to wean off Lexapro. By last year, Feb.
Avatar f tn I recently tapered off both Zyprexa (anti-psychotic) and Lexapro (AD) due to side-effects (weight-gain, sexual dysfunction, and apathy). My pdoc supported my decision. I currently take Lamictal 150 mgs (mood stabilizer) and thyroid medication for hypothyroidism. I have been off the Zyprexa for about 2 weeks and the Lex for about 1 week.

Avatar n tn The only way i am going to make it is to get an anti-depressant for awhile to beat the depression and today i plan on Lexapro. So Lexapro, Vitamins B and E and VIVARIN will be it forever. I mentioned some of the above ONLY to get you through the withdrawls but dont stay on any of it except the Vitamins etc. Again, it has only been 48 hours but my stomach has gone done considerably (or i should say the swelling of my intestines). Good luck to all of you - my email is below. I WILL PREVAIL.
Avatar n tn After researching Lexapro, I am very apprehensive about taking it. I am extremely worried about the issue of weight gain and sexual side affects and withdrawal from Lexapro. I am only 22 years old. Is there any recommendation on something else to take. Has anyone had a positive experience with Lexapor because all I seem to read is negative feedback on it. Please help! Thank You!
Avatar n tn along with joint pain, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, asthma, weight loss and smoking cessation. i figure what the heck. right now am still on 200 mg hs and the occasional seroquel. have appt. with psych. in 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn But anyway, I get an erection fine but have a hell of a time reaching orgasm even though my girlfriend is really attractive. So I quit lexapro cold turkey, enter the withdrawal symptoms of brain shocks and sleeplessness. Yuck. At least now, I can orgasm like before without any problems, completely like before I ever took the ****.. that's my story. Maybe it's pyschological, maybe it's physical from the pills, who knows.
Avatar n tn I've tried to get off Paxil recently and had the WORST problems. After researching and talking to people who have gotten off (or tried to get off) of the drug I am horrified that Paxil is still being prescribed. I am also AMAZED that a DOCTOR would actually say that this isn't dangerous, or that it isn't the PAXIL!?!? Are you kidding? How much were you paid to say that? Paxil DID help with my panic attacks. Did not cure or stop them, but helped.
Avatar n tn Is this to be expected from the Paxil withdrawal? I just had a physical, and save for a slightly high BP, everything else was normal...resting EKG, blood and urine work-up, etc. I want to believe this is nothing more organic and serious but it's tough when you feel like **** so often. Thanks!
Avatar n tn It is characterised by insomnia, anxiety, loss of appetite and of body-weight, tremor, perspiration, tinnitus, and perceptual disturbances. These symptoms may be similar to the original complaint and encourage further prescribing; some symptoms may continue for weeks or months after stopping benzodiazepines. A benzodiazepine can be withdrawn in steps of about one-eighth (range one-tenth to one-quarter) of the daily dose every fortnight.
Avatar n tn How long will the tramadol withdrawal take to be completely over? and How long can I use a small amount of Kratom on a daily basis without just creating another addiction that I have to get over? Or can I just slowly reduce the kratom to avoid the withdrawal since it is a powder and very easy to measure out? Any thoughts on this would be helpful. I am reluctant to engage my physician in this too much.
Avatar n tn It did work well for depression, and I did have the beneficial side effect of the weight loss as well. I have taken Zoloft and Lexapro in the past which also worked well for depression, but similar to others on this site, I couldn't stand the weight gain. So I tapered off and ultimately quit. I have to be honest and say that when I took the Wellbutrin (in my late 30's) my figure looked amazing (better then in highschool).
527657 tn?1214055450 i always weighed between 135 and 140 and now im 162 and very unhappy every time i step on the scale its another pound or two im getting off it and i hope to see some weight loss within a week or two.
Avatar n tn Who would guess that taking only 10mg paxil could cause such disruption in one's life when trying to discontinue taking it. I am trying to wean off and started a week ago going every other day, then every third day etc. The dizziness headaches flu like symptons etc have been awful. Is there any help out there to deal with this? I have been taking paxil for seven years and gained 40 lbs.
Avatar f tn I am currently on Lexapro now and haven't really noticed any weight gain or loss. I usually take it @ noon or so, that seems to work the best for me. Unfortunately, Effexor worked great for me, but it made my blood pressure skyrocket 176/106 my doctor thought I was faking it!!! How in the world can anyone fake high BP??? He saw it for himself. Needless to say, I no longer see that jerk or take all of his magic potions. He had me on 6 different meds, all fighting and neutralizing each other.
Avatar n tn After being on welbutrin for 2 months I had lost 25lbs. I was suprised and happy with the weight loss and energy. However, I couldn't sleep at night and started feeling like my heart was skipping a beat or maybe having an extra one everyday. My blood pressure and pulse were crazy high compared to what they normally were and at times I literally felt sick at the sight of meat on my plate. (Weird, I know).
