orignally was given to me for anxiety as a replacement for zanax which is addicting so i was told... it was ok..but made me gain a ton of weight..i was shocked that that! i thought it was my eating habits or hormones..couldnt figure it out , but after reading many posts on this I see almost everyone remarking that they had rapid weight gin as well..
I spoke to the pharmacist and he said i should of weened myself properly..

My doc tried Lexapro but i experienced very fast weight gain since being on it so he stopped it. i saw him tonight for a check up appointment on the Medication adjustments. Being the lexapro made me gain weight He decided to try effexor for me I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this medication? I've heard a side effect is actually weight loss?
Gained 50 pounds on Paxil, lost most when I went off but only because withdrawal drove me so crazy I couldn't eat. Now on Lexapro, gaining weight again. On the other hand, that's not why I went off Paxil, I didn't like the weight gain, but like bastel, it was a heck of a lot better than not being able to go anywhere.
Everyone is differant Shelly, while weight gain is a side effect of Lexapro it does not mean that You're going to gain weight. It is a side effect because it has happened for some people. Just keep eating healthy and getting exercise and You should be fine. Weight gain can be scary for most females however it is really good that You're on this medication and on the road to recovery. You need to wait it out and see unfortunately, people are too differant.

I have general anxiety with a tendency towards social anxiety. I used to have panic attacks but haven't had one in a couple years. I also suffer with depression. What drug has helped you? I am now taking Klonopin for the anxiety and Prozac for depression. I would like to cut the Klonopin or at least cut down (now taking 1 mg/day). The Prozac isn't helping my depression at all and I have given it months to work.
I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off. I feel terrible like I'm about to bust out of my skin cause I'm so fat now. Is there something else I can take that will allow me to lose the weight, not make me gain anymore weight, and work as well for bipolar1 with psychosis? Please, I'm dying to try anything right now. I'm tired of feeling bad.
If you were on Paxil for 17 years straight, quitting can be very very difficult. Lexapro won't make it any easier since it's a different drug. You were on a very low dose of Paxil, but still, that's a long time, and Paxil packs a heck of a withdrawal for many people. So it could be that. Someone on it for that long would usually taper off very slowly. It could also be that being on it that long has burned you out for ssris. Who knows?
with a heavy heart, and a heavier body, we decided to go back to the Paxil-- Because...besides the weight gain, how was my life? MUCH BETTER from at the very beginning.
I should also mention that I took Clonazepam as needed during my adjustment periods of the new drugs...and I hardly took it, because I felt like it didn`t do anything.
I guess my point is...that how the SSRI`s work is so individual, some work for some, and not for others at all.

I am trying to find a good medication that does NOT cause weight gain. Please do not tell me SSRI do not cause weight gain. I was on Zoloft for many years & it caused weight gain. Everytime I asked my doctor if it could be the medicine he said "No", so I tried & tried to get the 30 lbs off I had put on from it. I ate a good diet & worked out all the time.. NOTHING. I searched online & found out that many people had this complaint.
I have been taking Lexapro for about 6 yrs. I started at 10 mg and increased to 20 mg about 1 1/2 yrs ago. The side effects from taking Lexapro are becoming intolerable. I have had severe weight gain, sweating, abdominal discomfort, memory "forgetfulness", absolutely no sex drive, muscle cramps, and the list goes on. The most troublesome effect is a feeling of, well, of NO feelings.
I understand about the weight gain. I've been there myself with it. Are you doing well on the Lexapro? If so, then you may want to think about staying on it. A few extra pounds is really worth it if your doing well on a med. If you do decide to quit taking it then your Dr should give you a tapering schedule. It's hard to say how fast you would lose the weight because we're all so different.
Our PCP is stumped and our psychiatric nurse is doubtful that this is a medication issue. We don't know where else to turn. My husband takes a small dose of lexapro and has been doing so for 3 years. He takes lorezepam occasionally when he has trouble sleeping. He went through a period of early waking a year ago spring and that occasionally comes back. Out of nowhere, a year ago, he started getting lightheadedness at different times of day, once falling after he completely blacked out.

My big question is when are the doctors going to stop telling everyone that they do not gain weight on antidepressants, I have been on lexapro now for 2 yrs, and have gained 25 lbs, I watch what I eat exercise, dance, etc... and the weight will NOT come off. Some people complain about weight gain while on SSRIs like Paxil and others even complain about weight loss. What has been really helpful for me is ensuring that I watch what I eat and exercise regularly. I was prescribed this by a neurologist and talk about 'idiot' when I mentioned that a lot of people gain weight with this drug he got a large reference book out! I mean, he had Lexapro paraphanalia all over his office! He should know this.
I have an appointment next week but can't wait that long. So, I was taking 5mg half a pill, I should go to .25mg for a few days.......do I have to? I hate this medication. Just awful, I never want to see it again.
Just curious what was the reason why you ended up weaning off of Lexapro? In my case the Zoloft gave me some vision side effects, weight gain and I felt very flat all the time which made me feel strange 24/7. I am actually thinking of starting Lexapro now as I heard some people had some good experiences from it.

People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.
