Hi. I have been experiencing some really disturbing set of symptoms. I was a healthy and happy 22 year old and now feel almost crippled. I have peripheral neurpathy, horrible anxiety, deppression, nausea, weight loss. I took Levaquin for a UTI infection in November 2009 and didn't have symptoms then. I also had a susequent yeast infection. Do anybody have any idea what could be causing thIs? Thank you and God Bless.
There has been slight weight loss (5 or 6 pounds) because I was told to let my bowel rest by eating lightly. So, the weight loss is solely due to change in diet. I have continued to be fairly active exercising. I have not been lethargic. The first time I visited my primary care physician over this two week span, she probed where I mentioned the pain was. She said it felt a little tender, and she could tell some gas was "stuck" (????) there.
after taking Levaquin 500 mg for 2 days I had a sudden onset of stiffness at inner rt thigh. after 1 hr could not put any weight on rt leg. numb spots bilateral calves. I stopped Levaquin and contacted my dr. who changed the antibiotic and told me to take motrin for the inflammation and explained that tendon rupture was rare on Levaquin. This is day 4 I'm walking with a slight limp due to stiffness inner thigh and weight bearing.
Levaquin-Levofloxacin,though it is an antibiotic,has some common adverse effects on CNS as it passes the blood brain barrier.Headache, dizziness, and restlessness are among the commonest effects on the CNS. Others include tremor, drowsiness, insomnia, nightmares, and visual and other sensory disturbances ,tinnitus, Mal de Debarquement Syndrome etc.
Generally these reactions subside when the drug is completely metabolized and eliminated from the body. There is nothing much to be worried.
So after googling about mirena side effects i found your post about levaquin. I did not take levaquin but I took nearly 6 rounds of cipro several years ago. The infection I had was nor esponsive to it and no one would listen. I started having joint pain and brain zaps when I was on it and eventually I got SEPSIS. They gave me 4 more weeks of cipro to take home for that. It was awful. I felt like they were trying to kill me.
My symptoms are severe pain lower back ( around kidneys), weight loss, fever, no energy. My urine output is not good and it is dark. My Dr. called this morning and said he was referring me to a urologist. My rbc count is low, urine shows bacteria. I have been on Bactrim DS, Levaquin and pyridium plus. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on?
Would the concern with foul smelling breath in this case be that food is rotting in the lungs?
He has a permanent feeding tube. I think you are right that the intestine and stomach were swollen and not functioning properly. The food was simply not being absorbed and then ended up going back up the esophagus and coughed out. He did not have a normal bowel movement for 10 days, so that cannot have helped flow through the intestines either.
What is the recommended course in such cases?
They switched my ab to Levaquin 250 for 7 days. No change in the infection, still had diarrhea, joint pain and back pain. AB was switched to Levaquin 500 for 10 days and I honestly felt GREAT!! 3 - 4 days all symptoms came back so they put on Levaquin 250 again. I had to give a stool sample and get a colonscopy - which came back negative. The stool sample showed no bacteria so I stopped the Levaquin as tinging came back. I have gone down hill since.
I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me.

Hi everyone...has anyone ever been on Levaquin (it's in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage.
Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects???
I think my mom was on it (IV) but didn't have any side effects. All I can say is if they want to put you on it, ask for something else unless there is no choice! Thanks!

May I ask if Lyrica can cause weight LOSS through making one 'feel' so good they can conquer all and set out to do just that. Over time, losing weight through going like a bee all day long. Feeling of elation I guess I would call it. Can Lyrica cause enlarged spleen and does enlarged spleen bulge when eating. I was put on Lyrica for Neuropathies, coincidentally, when all my gastric issues began.
Hi! I hope someone can help me. I have had a numb scalp (hair loss also, may not be related, but..figure that if I am not possibly getting blood to my scalp, then hair loss makes sense), tinnitus, numb ears, numb face, lack of ability to taste most foods, photophobia is also an issue. I had cervical disc fusion in 10/2008, and wonder if there is a compressed nerve (Neurosurgeon refuses to follow up)..I had bone spurs also and stenosis.
Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago).
Any ideas about what is going on?

My husband was diagnosed with Bacterial Pneumonia and was prescribed Levaquin. He has been off the medication for about a week and a half and he is still experiencing phobic attacks in the morning. He wakes up in a panic and believes that he cannot breath. While he was taking the drug he experienced major confusion, anxiety, depression and dizziness. It was awful! He even experienced a very bad episode when he became abusive...and delusional.
I am suffering from debilitating tendon pain in many joints. I am inclined to accredit this as a side effect of Levaquin, but none of the doctors I've seen have agreed with this, though they also have not offered any other explanation. Please find my story below:

I came home that day washed very well and started drinking a lot of fluids. I ended up starting to take antibiotics as well. I had a prescription for Levaquin 500 mg pills. I have 20 days worth. Will that kill anything that I could have contracted?
I've been on 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days and I'm having difficulty breathing. Not all the time at times it's just hard to catch my breath without doing anything too physical. Has anyone else had this side effect?

Six months ago I suffered tendinitis in both Achilles tendons following a course of an antibiotic based on Fluoroquinolones prescribed for bronchitis. I also suffered a loss of balance, muscle bulk, weakness, all symptoms associated with peripheral meuropathy. What can I do to alleviate these symptoms?

He lost 16 pounds in 5 days from vomiting. He was 6 ft and 205lbs so he was ok to lose the weight. They gave him iv rocephin & phenergan. 1 bag of iv had sugar in it the other 2 were "normal" saline. They sent him home with relenza, levaquin, ventolin inhaler (significant wheezing on right side), & compazine.
My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
I had renal blood work done that came back within normal parameters and have yet to get my stool results back from the lab. My Dr. put me on Levaquin and atropine which i have been taking for 4 days with no improvement in my symptoms. I am now experiencing pain in my lower left abdomen. I aa also losing weight. What tests should I be asking for at this point? Thank you in advance for any information that you may offer.
