levaquin and weight gain

I'm 52 years old and have been dealing with periods of rapid weight gain (anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks) for nearly 4 years. My worst are 16 pounds in 3.5 days and 12 pounds in 2 days. Stress probably is a factor, although cortisol tests have been coming back normal. I'm spending thousands of dollars and so much time with doctors and tests; finding a doctor with an open mind and didn't believe that I was "cheating on the side" took a lot of time and money.

has to be the levaquin, i am in good health and the only thing added was the levaquin and then cannot walk on rt leg! Dr. ordered crutches for me to keep weight off leg and let it heal and naproxin but i'll use advil or motrin for inflammation. Hoping I recover quickly from this event. Recently I saw my MD and she ordered several blood tests and MRI to look for MS and other peripheral neuropathy causes. All blood tests and the MRI were normal. I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.

2008 i got bronchitis so bad that I was hospitalized put on steriods thru IV daily for 5 days and sent home with a prescription for Levaquin. After that, I had been on steroids for 2 months, then I started gaining weight. I have always been height/weigt porportionate(thin)-I was 5'10" weight 145 before all the steroids. Almost 2 years later I am still overweight.193lbs.

However, since I had a baby I never had weight gain and my loose stomach disappeared. Got mirena 2 months after giving birth by c section. Got terrible anxiety and sufferent for 2 years like that until I decided to take it out on August 29th. Had my period. Just ovulated. Aches and pains and cramps. Then the abdominal pain and now my stomach. But I could not help but notice that ALL DAY i have also been having BRAIN ZAPS AGAIN! I was touching my head all morning to analyze it.

Hi. I have been experiencing some really disturbing set of symptoms. I was a healthy and happy 22 year old and now feel almost crippled. I have peripheral neurpathy, horrible anxiety, deppression, nausea, weight loss. I took Levaquin for a UTI infection in November 2009 and didn't have symptoms then. I also had a susequent yeast infection. Do anybody have any idea what could be causing thIs? Thank you and God Bless.

You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.

I have been on that dosage for 6 years now, and the medication is not treating my body very nicely with weakened joints that ache, bad bruising on my arms and legs, weight gain, and a host of other problems that go with the steroid use. One of the best things for the E/N is the application of a topical steroid, Lydex cream. If I get a flare up of the E/N, a couple of applications will knock it back down.

s say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously). I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose. My question is this: will I still be able to transmit any infection that I may have right now? Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems. I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER. Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection.

Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.

I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.

I went to the dr. today and was dx with a UTI. I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I don't want to play doctor here or anything, but I was in a similar situation for several years. My apartment got broken into, then I moved home, and then my house literally got hit by lightening. I started taking lexapro for the Post-Traumatic Stress. I'd always been a bit of a snacker and stress-eater, but I a burdensome amount of weight from it. I asked my doctor about other alternatives to the Lexapro, and she suggested Welbutrin.

If you have been taking levaquin, do not have a urine chlamydia test. Levaquin cures chlamydia and would make the test negative, even if you were infected recently. At this point, there is no point in having any more chlamydia testing at all.

Expect to gain weight ; that is healthy and necessary for most women, but if the gain happens too quickly you MUST Work with your OB to ensure that you are as healthy as possible. I have taken quite a bit of different antibiotics back in May. I have stopped taking it a about 3 weeks ago, maybe longer and noticed that I have a hard time gaining weight now. I have had bad anxiety and depression as well recently which may have caused my appetite to go down drastically but when it comes back I start to eat a lot and it doesn't seem like I can gain weight like I used too.

Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.

I would trust the pharmacist. I have had levaquin and synthroid and it has been fine. They have website that you can search the reaction of medications with each other. Just google it. Good luck!
