Crap I just had a long post and lost the whole thing .Levaquin was a life saver for me and really severe kidney and bladder infections .
Now I have no clue why they would put you on it unless he thought you had some infection .I will see if I can find any WD uses for it but I don't know of any right off .
I would call the doc in the morning and ask what part of wds is it supposed to help with or like pharma said was it a mistake of some kind ?? Let us know what you find out.
Levaquin isn't used in 90% of the country (if you mean the US) for gonorrhea, but it is used frequently for prostatitis.
And no, gonorrhea wouldn't show up on a pap smear. It would, however, show up on an std test that the doc might have done along with the pap.
You have a clear diagnosis of an infection in your prostate. I would go with that.
My doctor did an uranalysis and said that there were white blood cells and some bacteria in my urine so she put me on levaquin for 5 days. It seemed to get a lot better the first three days, but then stopped working and it just started to get worse again. Unfortunately, my doctor was out of town for a week, so I went to a walk in clinic the day after I finished my round of antibiotics.

My urologist however when asked for the dx will not give me an answer whether i have IC or not as I had these symptoms last year but went away after the cystoscopy which afterwards was given a dose of Levaquin 500mg. This year had the same symptoms and wanted to be ruled out for IC. It has been 4wks. after the procedure as I still have stinging upon urination. I took a dose of Levaquin 500mg 4wks.
So I had unprotected sex with a woman about two weeks ago. I got symptoms that resemble chlamydia or gonorrhea (frequent urination, weird feelin in the tip of my penis) so I took levaquin 750mg tabs once a day for five days. Is that enough levaquin to knock out either of those stds? I'm still gettin the urge to urinate frequently and now I'm wondering could it be some kind of bladder infection? Any help is appreciated greatly.
Just wondering if anyone knows if a bladder infection can cause your CA125 to elevate. My gyno did blood work on me when I went to see him for the infection and I'm wondering what kind of number I'm going to see. He also put me on Levaquin which was worse then the infection itself. My oncologist is out of town right now which is why I had to see the gynocologist.
My 21 yr. old daughter has become sexually active within the last 6 months and has suffered what we thought has been 2 UTI's.. Severe bladder pressure and frequent urination. She was cultured with no sign of infection and given macrobid..didn't work...and then given levaquin and prescribed 800 mg. of ibuprofen every 4 hours. This episode took 9 days and 2 different doctor visits to get better.
I’ve been on antibiotics for the last three weeks for an UTI and on and off for the last 4 months. At the urologist office today the urine sample came back with couple + bacteria 50 to 75% white blood cells and 100% red blood cells. Then a cystscope was performed to determine where the blood was coming from because this was the major concern with all the urine samples. Blood was showing up in all of them. I was told that there was a red line in my bladder.
Although I saw a mild improvement mid-week, the symptoms never really went away, and at the end of the 7 days were just as bad. My urologist then prescribed Levaquin for 7 days. Again, the symptoms improved somewhat and then returned full-blast.
I have just finished the Levaquin and am at a loss what to do next.
I had a vasectomy last week on Wednesday. All was well until Friday night (2.5 days later) when the right side of the scrotum "insides" swelled more than 2x. There is a bit more than moderate pain (i.e. not excruciating). By Monday evening it seemed to worsen but could have been since I returned to work that day and was up more. I had spent Wed - Sunday with very very little activity.
He put me on a month of Levaquin. I went back after 2 days and had a very bad bladder infection. Went back after 2 weeks and the dr said the bladder infection was gone, but I had to keep on with the Levaquin as I was showing signs of pneumonia and he took another blood test. On the 3rd week of Levaquin, the dr called and said I was highly allergic to Levaquin and get to his office immediately. He gave me a new antibiotic shot and within an hour I was very ill.
I was never given any other tests, like an analysis of prostate secretion to tests for infection so I’m a little annoyed with the diagnosis without proper testing. The levaquin has had very minimal impact overall and I wish he’d given me more cipro and a longer cycle.
Has anyone had a similar case where you relapses quickly? If so, were you given a new med and did that work? Were you given the same med?
Any other ideas or insights would be helpful.
I went back and they gave me Cipro for 10 days. That did not help. Then they gave me Levaquin for 7 days. I finished all of the antibiotics but I am still experiencing flank pain (upper abdominal, lower pelvic area, and upper and lower back). I also still have White Blood Cells in my urine. Even though I took all of these meds, can it be that I still have a UTI , kidney infection or kidney disease?
Lactobacillis is a normal organism found the healthy vagina, and is not a bladder infection. As you void, the urine can pick up vaginal bacteria that grown in the culture. If these episodes are not a bacterial infection, and don't respond to antobiotics, then what are they? You need a structural study of your kidneys (CT scan or Ultrasound) and a cystoscopy (a look into your bladder and urethra) to see if there is anything causing the UTI like symptoms.
I was on Levaquin for 10 days for a sinus infection. Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.
Endodonist said there was pus -- infection. I have had allergic reaction to Levaquin and AzitheraI and have had side effects diarrhea and lightheaded from Cefdinir and Cephalexin so he prescribed Cipro 500mg. Said he doesn't usually prescribe but given that it have taken Cipro 250mg in the past (or urinary tract infection with no side effects. Is Cipro as effective as other antibiotics for dental infection?
35 yr old male. with a history of UTI's, approx 2/yr. Symptoms were slight sensitivity in lower abdomen but no burning during urination - I know the feeling so went to the doc very early. Urine test at doc's was negative. Prescribed Levaquin 250mg 1/day for 14 days. On my last incidence, approx. 6 months ago, went to doc with same symptoms, based on physical exam doc confirmed prostatitis (slight enlarged and "squishy"), prescribed antibiotics.
at the same time I was still on the Levaquin...that I feel is important because we were on the Levaquin at the same time for a week. If We had any GC or NGU...that should have been cured concurrently right? From that point she got better with exception of 2 yeast infections which she insists are normal and she does have frequently... and I did not...which leads me to the prostatitis again. But the timing of the prostatitis really has be snagged. On a side note...
In January 2014 I gave another urine sample and urethral swab and the latter came positive for S. aureus. The doctor prescribed 10 days of Levaquin. After taking it, the slight urethral discomfort was still there. I went and gave other samples and also had an ultrasound. The doctor told me I had sand in my kidneys so I began thinking of kidney stones having caused my problems. A week after the symptoms subsided completeley.
I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?
Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
Drugs other than Levaquin, prescribed for the treatment of prostatitis, include Bactrim, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, carbenicillin, nitrofurantoin, and tetracyclines like doxycycline. You may not be able to take ciprofloxacin as it is of the same group as Levaquin and may cause an allergic reaction as well. You will need to discuss the option of treatment with these antibiotics with your urologist. The course of treatment may last for 6-8 weeks or longer depending on the infective organism.
