Avatar m tn The Doctor recently traded out her Tamoxifen for Letrozole. As far as I know, Tamoxifen is used to prevent the large majority of the hormone being fed on by the cell, whereas Letrozole is supposed to stop the body producing it completely. My mother is 49 at the moment, 50 on September 10th. Her doctor also said that Letrozole can only slow the process down. I have been researching like mad for the last two days, looking up all kinds of treatments.
1030058 tn?1252253572 (beyond the initial 5 years) is with letrozole (Femara) after 5 years of tamoxifen. Letrozole and anastrozole (Arimidex) are both aromatase inhibitors and are very similar to one another. In most of the adjuvant studies using these drugs, 5 years of treatment has been given. An ongoing study will compare 5 to 10 years of aromatase inhibitors but there are no results available yet on that study.
492898 tn?1222243598 I know everyone is different and all that but thought maybe someone can share their experiences or other knowledge about Aromasin? I was on Tamoxifen, then switched to Arimidex which was a nightmare. Then Femara which was a little less horrible but too horrible to continue. The I went back on tamoxifen and today I saw my oncologist and he wants me to try Aromasin. He says the reason is mostly because of my taking prozac, and the problems this can cause with Tamoxifen.
5183964 tn?1364859022 I took Tamoxifen for 5 years and had no side effects At all. I have friends who have also taking Tamoxifen with no side effects. Best To You - 13 year breast cancer survivor.
Avatar f tn Systemic therapy in the form of tamoxifen can also be given in hormone receptor positive disease. There is currently no consensus regarding the optimal treatment of DCIS. Radiotherapy after surgery in DCIS is done in order to decrease the risk local recurrence. Numerous studies already support this approach. Comparing radiotherapy versus no radiotherapy, there is an advantage in decreasing local recurrence, with a risk reduction of about 40-50%. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I am 63 and just diagnosed with Stage 1, ER/PR Positive, node negative invasive ductal carcinoma. My oncologist is in the process of deciding whether to prescribe Letrozole/Femara or Anastrozole/Arimidex. What considerations factor into which of these two drugs to use? Has anyone had experience with either of them? How serious are the side effects?

Avatar n tn You welcome! Just a suggestion about hormonal therapy to lower estrogen levels. If you are post menopausal, and your bone density test doesn't show you have osteoporosis, you could ask your doctor to prescribe a much less expensive drug, like Femara's generic version "Letrozole" or Arimidex generic version "Anastrazol" If you are pre-menopausal, then Tamoxifen would be also good and I believe it's the least expensive one. I hope this helps...
Avatar n tn I have quit my Tamoxifen after two months due to my terrible sleeping (hot flashes) or not sleeping would be the term. I went off HRT when diagnosed last spring -- stage 1, a 1.1 cm tumor with a .25 tumor off the side of that. My nodes were clear. I had resumed hot flashes after quitting HRT but they were much worse at night with the Tamoxifen. From my reading I understand it is much more controversial than presented by my oncologists.
Avatar m tn Gave me symptoms. I am now on letrozole. Also experiencing symptoms. Will letrozole keep this cancer away. Is there a smaller does than 2.5 of letrozole that I can take.
1190279 tn?1324936257 Hi! Doctors will prescribe either clomid or letrozole to assist with ovulation. There's two main differences: it doesn't have anti-estrogenic side effects like clomid; and although studies have proven letrozole is an effective fertility drug it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet for fertility use, thus isn't covered by insurance (beware it's very expensive). Letrozole was developed to treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.
Avatar f tn There have been studies looking at anti estrogen and anti aromatase drugs for women with recurrence ovarian cancer. The drugs that have been used include tamoxifen, arimidex, letrozole. The response rate has varied from 0 to 50 %.. there may be correlation with the hormone receptor status of your tumor but this has not been well studied. the side effects of these drugs are few - hot flashes, vaginal dryness, risk of blood clots, and more rarely prescription eye changes.

1204794 tn?1300704113 I used to have 9 to 16 days of bleeding before letrozole! After being on letrozole, how many days are you bleeding? This is my second time with Letrozole and I had 9 days of bleeding the first time. By Day 5 I'm ready to quit letrozole because it makes my bones a bit achy, my breasts are super tender and less firm, and overall I feel like I constantly have a buzz that you get with one glass of wine.
Avatar f tn I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and have been offered a trial on Letrozole before and after surgery along with radiotherapy. I would appreciate knowing any side effects when taken along with Lithium and mood swings suffered if any.
