Common Questions and Answers about Femara tamoxifen

femara

Avatar n tn I didnt get any response from any healthcare providers on my Tamoxifen/Femara question regarding weight gain and loss. Can anyone answer that question for me.
Avatar n tn I don't know about Femara but I have gained weight on Tamoxifen. I get to stop taking it next month and I can't wait to see if I lose some of this weight.
Avatar n tn I was on femara once a day for 3 years now..my doctor switched me to tamoxifen once a dayt. I was advised to stop my femara for 2 weeks before starting tamoxifen. Is it safe to start tamoxifen at this time?
284773 tn?1207757759 This was tried years ago, since tamoxifen structurally is similar to clomid. Tamoxifen works, however clomid works better.
Avatar n tn How beneficial is Femara after taking Tamoxifen for 5 years. Im 7 years out, stage 1. Im 5 mos. into Femara and starting to feel some unwanted side effects and wondering what to do. I would love to be "drug" free and go on. Do you feel I should continue? Any information would be great. I will be discussing it with my physician shortly. Thanx.
Avatar n tn how long have you been on it? Have you gained weight? After 5 yrs on tamoxifen and now femara my weight keeps climbing and i never had a weight problem, i try to watch what i eat but the belly fat keeps coming.
Avatar f tn Me too! BC IA 2005, PSS diagnosed 2007. Most of my doctors are very reluctant to state that the PSS is related to Tamoxifen. I, too, was offered Femara instead but I don't believe that will solve the problem. A google search reveals an old study finding symptoms of Sjogren's in mice upon deprivation of estrogen. The doctors say that I am exactly the right age for development of PSS. [BC was diagnosed at 39.
Avatar n tn i am now on femara. i was wondering if you are going on it. im on femara for about 2 1/2 months and not that happy on it. i was wondering if your dr. prescribed it for you and if not why.
Avatar n tn one of the side effects of both Tamoxifen and Femara is Endometrial Cancer. It would be more routine because of the drugs than because of the BC alone. Regards ...
433893 tn?1205447652 I had a lumpectomy, my nodes removed, chemo, radio, hysterectomy then went on to tamoxifen. I finished with the tamoxifen in dec 2007 and started femara. Since taking the femara i have experienced vicious pain on my right side near my ribs which lasts for up to 8 hours after i eat anything rich or fatty. I am due scans on the 19th March to check for gallstones, as all the symptoms seem to indicate this.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a lumpectomy in 1999 and had radiation for invasive lobular breast cancer. Very tiny lump about 5 mm. Nodes were clear so I didn't have chemo. I was on tamoxifen for 5 years and have been on femara for 3. The back pain and joint pain has gotten horrible. I can no longer stand up straight or walk very far. I am 64 and afraid I will no longer be able to walk soon. I stopped femara 4 days ago.
Avatar f tn like hot flashes, vaginal dryness and mood swings etc...Some switched Tamoxifen with Femara and apparently had little side effect and conceived almost immediately.Talk to your doctor if tamoxifen is not well tolerated,.but if you have no major side effects, then stay on it and I hope that you'll be able to conceive soon. Good luck and best wishes.
Avatar f tn MD Anderson is presently doing a research study on which medications are the best. I wanted to take Femara because my Tamoxifen ran out. It lasts about two years, then I switch to another estrogen blocker, and two years later back to Tamoxifen. I actually have had no side effects with Tamoxifen, but I know women who have had problems similar to going through the change. Arimidex made me look bad inside. The doc never explained, but he won't give it to me.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, After 3 months of Femara I suddenly developed carpel tunnel syndrome. My entire right arm became numb in the middle of the night; I thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. I called Novartis & they sent me the requested 9 pages of info about musculoskeletal side effects, the most common being carpel tunnel & trigger finger. I saw a hand specialist who provided hand braces and said I would eventually need the surgery.
Avatar f tn I saw a paper from canada9 funded by novartis suggesting the femara have shown better survival figures than tamoxifen. Is femara better than arimedex? have you seen this paper.
Avatar n tn It is very hard to ascertain if Femara can directly cause fibromyalgia, since this condition or side effect is not routinely reported or classified in the clinical trials that used Femara. What Femara does, however, is that it can have a side effect in bone metabolism causing decreased bone mineralization that can cause bone pains and sometimes may lead to increased incidence of fractures. Hope this helps. Regards.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed last year with stage IIIB breast cancer. I have already gone through the chemo treatments - bilateral masectomy, radiation - finishing up in a few months with Herceptin. I started to take Tamoxifen a couple of months ago - I've been experiencing bad headaches - hot flashes (these are to be expected).
Avatar f tn I'm also a stage 3c grade 1 ovca and have been fighting since 2004. I have been on several chemos and am currently on my 3rd recurrence and 6th type of chemo. My body has been through enough and I'm now being switched to Tamoxifen. I don't know about Femara,so I can't offer any advice. I can tell you that although we don't respond well to chemos...
492898 tn?1222243598 I know everyone is different and all that but thought maybe someone can share their experiences or other knowledge about Aromasin? I was on Tamoxifen, then switched to Arimidex which was a nightmare. Then Femara which was a little less horrible but too horrible to continue. The I went back on tamoxifen and today I saw my oncologist and he wants me to try Aromasin. He says the reason is mostly because of my taking prozac, and the problems this can cause with Tamoxifen.
Avatar n tn went if ever can i expect my pain to go away, since going through chemo and starting tamoxifen, i've been having bad pain and stiffness in hands and feet. medication vicodin help some, also some stiffiness in knees. my doctor has no answers and keep try different medications that is not working. please have some anwers for me . pain started after taking tamoxifen in april, stopped chemo in march. what can i do or take to relief the pain. thank you.
Avatar f tn I had surgery, then radiation therapy for 7 weeks. Since then, I have tried two post-cancer hormonal drugs (Femara and Arimidex) and both have bad side effects - extreme bone and joint pain and now I have osteoporosis. I am now on Fosamax, ergocalciferol and calcium supplements. Now my oncologist wants me to take Tamoxifen, but a side effect of the drug is blood clots. I had a DVT in my right calf in 1989; it did not move from that location.
Avatar f tn After 5 yrs of Tamoxifen my Onc. prescribed me Femara and now she stopped me from taking that medication without checking if I am still ER positive or not. Is it advisable for me to ask her to check if I am still ER positive? This discussion is related to Best chemo treatment given I am ER -.
Avatar f tn I have had two primary cancers in 12 months. My first cancer was a cervical tumor now it is gone after chemo + radio + brachytherapies and I am now on the usual follow up. My BC was ER+92, PR- and HER2-, 3 lymph nodes dissected all clean. I did not get an oncotype test. I had a mastectomy and right now I am on 8 rounds of chemo. Once done I have to say if I will take FEMARA or not, I want to decide that on my own.
Avatar n tn I am a survivor of 10 years and I am finished with Tamoxifen and have till October when I will be finished with Femara. My urologist wants me to begin taking Vitamin C and Acidophalos?? I wasalways told that one shoud not take vitamins, having had cancer. I am allowed to take Evening Primrose Oil 1500 one a day to prevent breast cysts. I am most concerned about starting Vitamin C.
Avatar n tn In the meantime, I had Taxotere and Doxil, which did not work, so I went on Femara (I am low grade, too). Tamoxifen was not even considered for me because there is an indication for blood clots while on it. Femara does not have that indication, however, the clots kept coming while I was on it. It also caused severe bone pain. A little more than a year ago, I switched to Aromasin, and things have dramatically improved.
