Avatar m tn On examination in one of the leading eye hospital we found her eye has got 4 cyl in each eye though there is no spherical power. WE went for second opinion wherein they have almost concluded that she has around 1.00 spher and 3.75 cyl in each eye. The major difference is in the first hospital , they went for comp testing followed by chart reading. However in the second hospital, first testing was done without eye dilation and second with eye dilation.
Avatar f tn i ask this because a week ago i took both my 4 yr old and 2 yr old daughters to be checked, my 4 yr old came out good in her eyes but my 2 yr old was diagnosed with astigmatism, i asked if it was a little and he said it was bad especially her left eye, my husband doesn't wear glasses but i do since i was 10 yrs old and i not have astigmatism but my left eye is worse then my right eye. he recomended glasses and we ordered her a pair but my concern is, was it a good idea to get her glasses?
Avatar m tn Dear aurora547, I would recommend that you take your grandson to an eyeMD to determine his prescription and whether glasses are truly needed. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.

Avatar n tn Is there a way I can treat my astigmatism? Should I check with lasik/laser eye sergeon or eye doctor (MD) or talk with the optometrist first?

Avatar m tn During implant of Rezoom lens for catarract surgery, my doctor did relaxing incisions to correct the astigmatism in left eye which said was a 5. That was June 27th, '07. Since then he has done one laser correction in his office to "fine tune" the astigmatism problem, and it looks like he will have to do that at least one more time. The eye is improving but very slowly and he seems confident it will be fine in time. I'm having the other eye done next week. March 12 '08.

Avatar f tn He paid for everything, mutltifocal IOL, femtosecond laser, astigmatism correction, ORA technology. He needed glasses for many things and was very unhappy about the quality of his night vision. Nothing I could do for him. Also posted when my wife had surgery we didn't pay for any upgrades and she is very happy. That's all I'm going to say, your money. I would not pay for any of that if I were having surgery on myself.
Avatar m tn Folks I am considering laser surgery. I have astigmatism. Is it the right thing to do and also which method is best? Any suggestion is most welcomed.
Avatar m tn 2008 Left: +2.25sph -4.5cyl Right: +1.75sph -4.25cyl 2012 Left: +3.25sph -4.75cyl Right: +2.75sph -4.25cyl Current glasses: Left: +2.0sph -4.25cyl Right: +1.75sph -3.75cyl I had sizable astigmatism already from birth, but it has gradually increased, especially in last 5 years or so. I am 23 year old male. I have spent a lot of time in front of computer. My vision has gotten so bad that I have terrible eye strain after few hours of focusing on computer screen.
Avatar m tn (1) Would capsulotomy tend to decrease refraction within the eye (increase focal length) and thereby reduce the amount of negative correction presently needed? (2) Would you suggest that I undergo surgery on the left eye in the near future and defer it for the right one -- or, would you suggest that surgery be performed on both eyes in the near future during one session? Postscript: Overall, I believe that monovision was a good choice.
Avatar m tn i had lasek one week ago and my left eye is clear with very good vision but my right eye is still very blurry. I think it is do to astigmatism still because it helps dramatically if i look through a hole in a piece of paper (test for astigmatism). In addition I test possitive using many of the self astigmatism test. Will this improve over time and simply a result of the ghosting associated with post surgery?

Avatar n tn In the test charts, the verticle lines looked darker in both eyes. Now, the astigmatism in my right eye seems worse, not better, and now the horizontal lines are much darker. I know that it is a bit early, as my eye has not healed yet, but my doctor is being quite vague with his answers about if this is normal, and what I can expect. At this point, his only suggestion has been that I pay him $2000 more for him to perform laser surgery on the same eye, to finish correcting the vision.
Avatar m tn I think he buried the lede and that the major question after those details is: "In the mean time I need to find out more about correction of irregular astigmatism and whether there are any laser options. ". I haven't had reason to explore the various laser surgery options in detail, just in passing I'm aware the laser systems continually make advances in analyzing corneal topography and planning how to treat it, but I don't know the current state of the art and its limits.

Avatar n tn Before having it done, the prescription of my glasses was -18.75 for the right eye and -17 for the left eye with -1.50 for the astigmatism in the right eye and -2.50 in the left eye. I now have 20/20 in my right eye so no correction for distance for the new glasses I will have and -0.50 astigmatism. For the left eye, he overcorrected a bit so I will have +0.75 in the left eye with -0.50 for the astigmatism.
Avatar n tn He will be able to recommend the next step, whether to change the glasses. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar m tn I have a high astigmatism on my right eye since birth (-5 diopters). But my left eye is perfect 6/6. I used to have floaters since childhood. When i recently went to the doc she asked not to worry about the floaters. She also indicated that i seem to have an optic nerve pallor, which i seemed to have since birth. A week after the appointment, i noticed silver flashes on the side my eyes (towards my nose) whenever i turned my eye. This time i went to a bigger ophthal hospital.
Avatar n tn Astigmatism means not spherical ie not round. In against the rule astigmatism the eye has a steeper curveatur horizontally while in with the rule the steepest radius of curvature is verytical.
Avatar m tn Hi Doctor, My 8 months old baby having serious astigmatism, 350 at right eye and 400 at left eye. Will it be okay when she grow up? if wear glasses, will it be okay after that or need to wear glasses continuously?
Avatar m tn First of all I would like to thank you and Dr. Feldman for your advice. Just to clarify all the previous visits including this one were to an eye specialist. I live in Austria, Graz and as said before the last visit results were a bit shocking in a sense that how come all the other eye specialists missed such a huge problem.
Avatar n tn Unfortunatelly the word "astigmatism" (stigmata of Christ) sonds more serious than just being nearsighted or farsighted but it really is not. In most cases, astigmatism is cause by a cornea that is not round like a ball but shaped more like football or teaspoon so there is a long flatter curve and a steeper curve. These 2 curatures are 90 degrees apart and are correctable by spectale lense or contact lenses. In reality, most nearsighted and farsighted eyes also have some astigmatism.
Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosised with stigmatism over a year ago when she was 4. Why doen't she now on her own that she needs her glasses to see? she never, ever gets up and says, "where are my glasses". she is having great diffculty in school, she can't seem to consistly recognize many of the alphabet and numbers, She is extremly out going and bright because of this the teacher just thought her "light bulb" hasn't gone off yet, but now in Jan.
