Common Questions and Answers about Laser eye astigmatism

laser

Avatar n tn Before having it done, the prescription of my glasses was -18.75 for the right eye and -17 for the left eye with -1.50 for the astigmatism in the right eye and -2.50 in the left eye. I now have 20/20 in my right eye so no correction for distance for the new glasses I will have and -0.50 astigmatism. For the left eye, he overcorrected a bit so I will have +0.75 in the left eye with -0.50 for the astigmatism.
Avatar m tn Folks I am considering laser surgery. I have astigmatism. Is it the right thing to do and also which method is best? Any suggestion is most welcomed.
Avatar f tn It is only in the new IOL exchange eye. Astigmatism was supposed to have been corrected last summer with the laser when I had Cat. Surg. But as I assume it wasn't correctly done either by the 1st surgeon. The newest dr. didn't comment on it.
Avatar n tn February,08 Rezoom lens implanted in right eye-3 weeks later developed headache, right side of head with eye pain. Also, extreme light sensitivty. Returned to opthamologist. He had no idea what could be causing the headaches but the vision in my Rezoom eye was 20/20 .Primary care doctor sends me for MRI- comes out clear,.puts me on Advil and sends me to a neurologist who tells me I was neurologically fine, but if he were to guess, my headaches were directly related to my recent eye surgery.
Avatar n tn Currently I have high myopia with astigmatism in left eye (R -8.75 L -8.25 astigmatism -1.5). 1.5 year ago my vision was R -7.25 L -7.75 astigmatism -0.5. I suppose this progression is due to inappropriate glasses that I am wearing ( lenses are -6.5 for both eyes). Cornea thickness is 566-574. I am planning to do laser correction. After the check-up at the eye clinic I was told that I can do any type of laser correction. My questions are: 1. Is my myopia still progressing?
Avatar m tn 25 I would lilke to get the astigmatism corrected, what is the best procedure to reduce the astigmatism - some sort of laser surgery, limbal incissions or something else?
Avatar f tn a few years earlier, i had LASIK for near vision in my right eye and for far vision in my left, stronger eye. The right cataract surgery went well. the left eye was not clear like the right, immediately noticeable. i was not given the lens case afterwards for the left eye and wondered if it was possible the wrong scrip was used. how would i find out short of cutting open the incision and retreiving the lens? the dr. then used a laser he said would sharpen my vision some.

Avatar m tn I have a dense cataract in one eye and I was told that laser-assisted surgery may be better to help "break" it down instead of traditional. I've seen mixed research between the two; however, are there any shown benefits of laser over traditional cataract surgery? As in is it worth to pay out of pocket for it?
Avatar n tn t see clearly near or far. The lens implanted in the left eye seems to be holding position. My post-op astigmatism in the eye where the IOL rotated is + 2.00 diopters. The surgeon suggests waiting several months for vision to stabilize and then "fixing" the astigmatism with laser surface treament (new non-LASIK method). My questions are: Should I ask to have the IOL fixed surgically? is there still time for this?
Avatar n tn I don't think there is one best astigmatism-correcting contact for everyone. Toric and RGP contacts both correct astigmatism. A doctor who is experienced at fitting contacts can determine which contact(s) would work for your friend.
Avatar m tn So is there any chance that say laser surgery for example could reproduce what the specs lens adds to my vision or is laser eye surgery too coarse to give me my specs lens prescription without overcorrecting?
Avatar m tn I am highly myopic with -16 in each eye & have astigmatism. I will be having cataract surgery and have a choice of with or with-out laser-assisted surgery. Am I likely to have a better outcome using the laser? It will cost more. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Thanks, Dr. Feldman -- Yes, the astigmatism hit hard right after the sutures were removed. One thing the surgeon said by re-suturing would be that he could make adjustments (tighten or loosen, I think) depending on how things shake out after the re-suturing. It’s good to know there are other options out there as well.
Avatar m tn Both told me that my cornea was thin (500 rt eye, 480 lf eye). One location only did Laser vision correction and is a chain that does Lasik throughout the country. They said my cornea was border line but they would do the all laser Lasik (Intralase). The other location (does multiple facets of eye care) said that my cornea calls for Microkeratome to expose the inner cornea - then remove the 1st layer - perform the surgery and let it grow back.
Avatar m tn Really two questions: 1) I'm 31 years old and have developed mild/moderate astigmatism in my right eye (-1.00). I'm 20/25 for distance vision in that eye, but can definitely see the difference, especially at night. I'm right eye dominant, so the visual picture without my glasses looks kind of hinky to me and can result in eye strain, so I usually wear my glasses at all times. I had PRK when I was 21 with excellent results (5.00 diopters myopia in each eye to plano all around).
Avatar n tn 00 axis 170) i mainly have astigmatism is it possible to get an icl for just astigmatism n bit short sightness for my right eye? Also is icl safe, or safer then laser treatment? And whats the youngest i can get it done?
Avatar f tn Don't consider laser correction to child as shape of eye ball is not permanent & it may get altered when he get older also laser correction can cause complications.
Avatar n tn ReStor lens is not meant for eyes with astigmatism. I am told I must wait three months for the eye to heal before the doctor will ATTEMPT to correct my astigmatism with laser...no guarantee of success. Obviously I am not happy.
Avatar m tn Doctor suggests Cataract surgery on my left eye first. Since I have astigmatism, the aspherical AcrySof Toric IQ IOL is suggested for implant. Since Toric IOL needs to be implanted with an angle and it rely on capsular bag fibrosis to hold the IOL in place. It may hold very well for first several years. I wonder, Can it be held in the same place after 10, 15 20 years. I mean the tissue around the capsular bag stays at the same location after many years.
Avatar n tn Had cataract surgery in right eye (RxLAL) in Aug. 2020. Month following, Dr informed me that I may need YAG in that eye eventually based on what he was seeing. First part of 2021 I noticed my vision declining. Dr recommended YAG laser in right eye. Had YAG procedure in May 2021. Immediately following surgery (as soon as dilation wore off) I noticed starbusts in right eye when looking at lights in dimly lit rooms during the day and consistently at night (traffic lights, street lamps, etc).
Avatar m tn - Ability to map and reduce low level astigmatism in real-time: The laser can cut limbal-relaxing incisions w/ laser energy and the surgeon can see the corneal topography outcome in real time. Of course, a toric IOL can also be used to reduce or eliminate astigmatism, especially when it's severe. And some patients can have LASIK after their cataract procedure to 'tune up' any remaining astigmatism or refractive error.
Avatar n tn t have any promblems with the Crystalens HD500 I have 1.25 Astigmatism in that eye. The Doctor that Implantehed it told me at that time all I would need is an LRI. When the time came to have it done he said I needed Laisk that the LRI would not fiix it. My right eye cataract was not bad enough to have removed so I needed Glasses any way I didn't want to pay the extra money and still ware glasses.
Avatar m tn I went to see an opthalmologist today for a consultation, and basically the two options that we discussed for my treatment are 1) Crystalens HD set to around -.75 with either glasses or laser surgery to correct the astigmatism in that eye or 2) monofocal IOL set for plano or intermediate distance -1.25 with either glasses or laser surgery to correct the astigmatism. In both cases, my right eye would wear a contact lens and get LASIK in the future.
Avatar m tn During implant of Rezoom lens for catarract surgery, my doctor did relaxing incisions to correct the astigmatism in left eye which said was a 5. That was June 27th, '07. Since then he has done one laser correction in his office to "fine tune" the astigmatism problem, and it looks like he will have to do that at least one more time. The eye is improving but very slowly and he seems confident it will be fine in time. I'm having the other eye done next week. March 12 '08.
