1756969 tn?1332437163 Borderline Personality Disorder is primarily relationship problems with high drama, fear of abandonment and mood fluxuations. Bipolar is a mood stabilization disorder with mania or hypomania (lower level mania) alternating with depression. Lamictal is a antiseizure med that is also a mood stabilizer that is primarily used for bipolar and seizure disorders. Some pdocs give lamictal to people with BPD to help with the mood fluxuations (lower mood changes than with bipolar).
Avatar m tn Hi and I'm sorry your feeling you've gone backwards recently. I have rapid cycling bipolar and Adhd but I have had a lot of combinations of medications I have tried, a couple helped me not cycle so often for a time then we found that they were becoming less effective and eventually after trying increases we had to find an alternative combination.
Avatar f tn Hi, Lamotrigine, sodium valproate, carbamazepine, and lithium are some mood satbilisers used in bipolar disorder. These are considered the basic drugs in the treatment of this condition. Switching to any one of these, even for a short while, would give a chance to settle the bladder as well as evaluate the progression of your condition.
Avatar f tn It is an anti-seizure medicine commonly used for bipolar disorder. Pharmacies often do not always mark on the bottle when they do not fulfill a script. I would not automatically rush to judgement. I am confused when you say that he is addicted to opiates. Soma is not an opiate. It is a sedative, used for muscle relaxation. Even though it is somewhat addictive, it is not an opiate and does not present the same challenge of withdrawal as true opiates do.
Avatar f tn [14][15][16] Off-label psychiatric usage includes the treatment of depersonalization disorder, bipolar II disorder and other bipolar disorders, schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
1756969 tn?1332437163 It is unlikely that the symptoms are caused by lamotrigine as you are not on an effective dose yet. So, since the dose is low it can't stop the depression from coming on that is caused by your bipolar. Lamotrigine is not known for causing depression. The lowest dose usually seen as effective is 200mg. But, with this drug you have to increase it slowly. Give it more time and get up to a therapeutic dose. I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects.
Avatar f tn ve just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. He said that I have taken it so far wouldn't harm the baby. I am still very worried and wondered if anybody has any experience with this. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly! If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
Avatar f tn Rest assured though thyroid problems, depression and bipolar are linked and can be managed with correct meds. Hope this helps.
1576249 tn?1296087202 I am a 21 year old female..I was diagnosed with panic disorder in high school and took all sorts of anti-anxiety meds and anti-depressants with no relief. About a year ago I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism caused by graves disease(which causes metabolic problems, mood, anxiousness, insomnia, fast heart rate), in the last few months my thyroid is in remission so I was taken off anti-thyroid medications.
1114269 tn?1258680912 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
Avatar f tn I have the first edition and just ordered the second edition for myself. The other one I like is Taking Charge of Bipolar Disorder and it is another one by Julie Fast. It is less comprehensive but easier to follow. It does get easier with time and some hard work. Medication will get you about 60% of the way there. The other 40% is learning about your illness to avoid those things that trigger episodes, and doing things like exercising and eating well.
574118 tn?1305135284 Antidepressants or other meds initiate a permanent change in symptoms, causing them to become more extreme and cross the threshold into diagnosable - or clinical - bipolar disorder. Some meds can do the above, and others can cause short-term bipolar symptoms in some people. It could be that those people have some of the genetics of bipolar, but not enough for a diagnosis-- Yesterday a strange thing occurred to me.
Avatar m tn I'm a teenager, and I have all the symptoms for bipolar disorder, I have not been diagnosed because I don't want to take lithium, I want homoeopathic stuff instead. A couple days ago I tried to slit my wrists but I couldn't press down or draw blood. I am at my wits end....HELP!!! Anyone know any good natropathic doctors???
Avatar f tn Symptoms can be similar to borderline personality disorder and also some subtypes of schizophrenia. Also there can be comorbidity between different conditions. Apparently 20% of people with bipolar also have borderline personality disorder. Anyway if you responded well to Prozac last time then I guess you could try and get some again. Ask some friends about social services in your area. A social worker might be able to help you out. Getting prescription drugs in NZ is fairly cheap.
574118 tn?1305135284 -D Seriously, tthough, I had to decide whether I wanted to try this treatment when there was no data of how it could affect my bipolar disorder, it could have made me more unwell rather than help with my Adhd symptoms, we are constantly reviewing its effectiveness and if it effecting the cycles of my bipolar disorder and if it does we stop treatment straight away.
925572 tn?1246540031 Well one of my aunts has bipolar disorder and was pregnant before but she doesn't use the computer that I know of. I don't know many details except while pregnant it was the only time she hallucinated in her life.
Avatar f tn Use of Effexor is controversial as many psychiatrists say it helps, but the research is leaning towards it causing an escalation of episodes causing rapid cycling in people with bipolar. I was rapid cycling and on Wellbutrin. Once they removed the Wellbutrin the rapid cycling slowed down tremendously. I had to fight to be removed from it though, my psychiatrist didn't think it was a good idea. Meds though are 60% of the fight the other 40% is learning to manage your condition.
1310468 tn?1274863925 Lamotrigine and some other anti-convulsant medications are approved for maintenance treatment in bipolar I disorder, because they have something to do with altering the excitability threshold of certain neurons. We're not yet entirely sure how that helps to control mood instability in bipolar disorder, but they are proven to be very effective in this regard. The good thing about lamotrigine in particular is that it can also have an anti-depressant on top of the mood stabilization!
Avatar n tn Recently I've been diagnosed with a bit of Bipolar Disorder. My doctor put me on Lamotrigine, a mood stabilizer normally used to treat epilepsy, seizures. I've experienced a little bit of blurred vision every now and then from it but wonder why I'm having a small trace of vaginal bleeding every once in a while. I'm on Portia as a birth control method and I haven't had my period for a while now.
Avatar m tn If you want to talk to a doctor (psychiatrist) go to the doctor forum which is the other side of the lists, and go down to mood disorder. There you can post a question and a doctor will answer. There are limits to how many questions he will answer so it may take a few days to get a spot, but unlike many of the other doctors he doesn't charge anything.
Avatar m tn I was recently dx'ed with type 2 bipolar disorder and, am now on 20mgs of paxil and, 100mgs of lamictal. It has help the suicide feelings I was having, but am still very depressed at night. I have alot of medical issues besides this and, know this is part of the reason for the depression. Is there anythign else I can try to ease up on the depression. I am going to a psychiatrist for meds and will have my first session with a psycologist next week. What else can I do?
Avatar f tn Hi, I've suffered from bipolar disorder (rapid cycling) for quite a good few year's (10 years to be precise, though I experienced symptoms at least a good five year's before this)... Over the year's I've tried quite a few mood stabilisers/anti-psychotics (carbamazapine, valporate & Quietiapine... Just to name a few)....
Avatar f tn Mood stabilizers used in the treatment of bipolar disorder include, Depakote, Depakene, Eskalith, Lithobid(Lithium), Lithonate and Lithotabs. Although, not approved for tratment of bipolar disorder by the FDA, the following medications are oftentimes also used to control mood. They include lamictal, neurontin, tegretol and topomax. These are usually calssified as anti-convulsants.
Avatar m tn t stop taking your lamotrigine unless you talk to the pdoc first, just saying these are listed side effects. Lamotrigine is a really good drug for bipolar and side effects usually wane after a few months. Since you were only on Ziprexa for 4 months, chances are really minimal that any permanent damage was done. If you are not having movement related issues - smacking lips, drooling, etc. it shouldn't be anything permanent.
Avatar m tn will my decision to finally treat my bipolar disorder rob me of my quick wit and my ability to make people laugh
