Lamotrigine dose bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine dose bipolar

lamictal

Avatar n tn All 9 patients were treated to remission. From the lowest daily dose to the highest daily dose, mean increase in lamotrigine was 102.8 mg. Clinically adequate seizures were obtained in each patient. Lamotrigine had minimal effect on each measured ECT parameter. The interval between ECT treatments was spaced to a mean of 15.2 days. The treatment combination was well tolerated, with no serious adverse events, no rashes, and no worsening of cognitive side effects.
1756969 tn?1332437163 It is unlikely that the symptoms are caused by lamotrigine as you are not on an effective dose yet. So, since the dose is low it can't stop the depression from coming on that is caused by your bipolar. Lamotrigine is not known for causing depression. The lowest dose usually seen as effective is 200mg. But, with this drug you have to increase it slowly. Give it more time and get up to a therapeutic dose. I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects.
1310468 tn?1274863925 My psych has had me on it for years, and works in colaboration with my neuro so that I get double work out of it as it also works as a migraine medication. I take 150mg tabs 2x/day. Any time we try to drop back on my dose, I immediately get more unstable and we have to quickly up the dose again. I've found that anticonvulsants in general have *many* uses outside of the siezure prevention/control.
1114269 tn?1258680912 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
925572 tn?1246540031 hi Malak for the pdoc it's better if you stabilize simply because the baby is of no concern to him, this is i'm afraid the responsibility of another person (your gaenacologist/obstetrician), so forget about what he's trying to convince you abt lamictal that it's is ok while you are pregnant, this is a research you have to do it yourself.
574118 tn?1305135284 s available where you are, Latuda (lurasidone) just got approval for bipolar depression. It might be too expensive, though. Also, have you tried lamotrigine? Abilify is another good suggestion.
Avatar m tn I had about 10 depressive episodes in 2-3 years and they stopped completely when I started lamotrigine (well, apart from the one, but it was work related). You probably already know lamotrigine (Lamictal) works better for the depression side more than the manic side.
Avatar n tn I've been on lamotrigine (lamictal) for years. I've taken many other medications for bp and not much has worked for whatever reasons. I did not find relief until I got on lamictal. It took several months to work the dose up a little at a time and some fine tuning to get the dose right. Now I'm on 300mg lamotrigine. I had some tremors and had some balance problems on the higher doses. I also take 450mg lithium carbonate and 60mg methylphenidate (this one's in the morning).
574118 tn?1305135284 Good question, I was on two different combinations that worked for me but because of some contributing factors they stopped working and the side effects also became an issue. I was on a combination of lamotrigine, sodium valproate, and quetiapine. This worked for me for around 3 years it then became less effective so carbemarzepine was added in.
Avatar f tn In about 2011 or so (i was like 17 I wanna say) I was perscribed Lamotrigine for bipolar disorder. Taking that medication seems to have been the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life. Or, the most coincidental occurance I've ever heard of. Just a week after tapering daily to the regular dose, I began to feel what I called "crippling anxiety". My doc hardly believed me when I said it and, get this, UPPED my dose of Lamotrigine.
Avatar f tn I am also on 200mg of lamotrigine and 50mg of Trazodone. I took my first full dose of Abilify on Friday the 6th and today is the 11th The Abilify is working about 70%. I have been crying more, I wrote a big long blog about how life is useless because I can't work full time and be a parent and all those other 'normal' things the drug companies promise you that you can do if you just take their drug. I am feeling not depressed but more morose, and just generally in a slump.
Avatar f tn Medication cocktails can be a nightmare, finding one inparticular is no easy task but my current ( not working ) cocktail is aripiprazole, lamotrigine, nimodipine, pregabalin, clonazepam and last but not least modafinil. I have just increased dose on one as I try to head off a not so nice mixed episode coming to a head, I've tried alot of different medications so far, I can't take antidepressants they make me worse and regarding a good medication to try?
Avatar f tn When I started taking that I noticed it helped about the same way for me. I still have my ups & down's but it's better. I'm gradually increasing my dose. Have had some side effects but they have gotten better.
Avatar m tn Talk to your psychiatrist about getting a lamotrigine serum level - 100 mg is often not an adequate dose. Talk to you psychologist about Acceptance and Commitment therapy. Second what Jaquta had to say.
1895346 tn?1321305844 lFor several years I was treated for bipolar with lithium, clonipin, and one antipsycotic after another. I live in a very small area and our county mental health dept. shut down. When I went to our community clinic they took me off of lithium because I was losing my hair and the clonipin because it COULD be misused. and put on serequel which I was told would help all my symptoms. It did not. Now I can't drive, hell I can't even leave my house.
Avatar f tn Although there are other mood stablizers out there such as Depakote and Lamotrigine. I take lamotrigine. Fairly low side effect profile, fairly weight neutral, although my understanding is it is better for bipolar depression and Lithium is better at controlling manias. I don't know much about Depakote. I don't think it is used as much now. If you don't see a psychiatrist I'd get a referral to one when you see your GP on Monday.
967145 tn?1247497890 i am 26 year old ,and i am bipolar! the medicine i am taking carbamazepin . is this medicine a mood stabelizer?
1756969 tn?1332437163 Borderline Personality Disorder is primarily relationship problems with high drama, fear of abandonment and mood fluxuations. Bipolar is a mood stabilization disorder with mania or hypomania (lower level mania) alternating with depression. Lamictal is a antiseizure med that is also a mood stabilizer that is primarily used for bipolar and seizure disorders. Some pdocs give lamictal to people with BPD to help with the mood fluxuations (lower mood changes than with bipolar).
Avatar f tn It remains to be seen whether Lamotrigine can bring relief on both sides once you are up to the full dose. It is, after all, a mood stabilizer, and it may therefore do the trick. I was on it for years and found it quite helpful (had to quit because it gave me the shakes). One often reads that Lamotrigine works better for depression than for hypomania. So in the end it is also possible that Lithium may turn out to be effective for you. Do keep in close touch with your pdoc.
7390486 tn?1395024820 I've been on mood stabilizers b4 but my Dr took me off of them & prescribe SSRI-zoloft it's been helping but my bipolar started up again cause my brother father pass away; so I was put back on Lamotrigine it's leveling off my bipolar, depression & anxiety. I'm still on Zoloft & also Trazodone-a cyclic anti-depressive.
1039200 tn?1314912008 Has anyone heard of Pregabalin (lyrica) for bipolar or anxiety? - my doctor wants me to try, but I have not heard about it before and would like to know if anyone here has tried it or knows anyone who has. Is it used as a mood stabiliser? - I can't find it on the web site ILADVOCATE recomended me a long time ago, does this mean it's not a mood stabiliser or just a new brand?
Avatar f tn m bipolar with psychosis and am currently tapering off of ziprasidone 80mg twice daily. I totally dropped my second dose along with lamotrigine, and Lexapro. So right now I am currently taking ziprasidone 80 mg, chantix 1mg, topamax 50mg 3x day, and ropinirole for side effects 1 mg once a day. I can't believe I actually made it through the night last night.
Avatar m tn Lamotrigine has been successful in controlling rapid cycling and mixed bipolar states in people who have not received adequate relief from lithium, carbamazepine and/or valproate. It also appears that lamotrigine has significantly more antidepressant potency than either carbamazepine or valproate. Lamotrigine is also useful as part of the treatment of some people with major (unipolar) depression.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with manic bipolar depression when I was 19. I was 7 weeks pregnant when I found out. And I was talking a mood stabilizer called lamotrigine (200mgs) twice a day... And my mood swings got worse when I was taken off of it.. wondering if there's any suggestions that with help with it.. my fiancee gets upset when I get MOODY....
3140085 tn?1342843508 Lamictal is generic in the US... lamotrigine is the generic name. I wouldn't try lamotrigine without a doctor as it has to be increased very slowly due to the risk of the Stevens-Johnson rash.
Avatar f tn ve just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. He said that I have taken it so far wouldn't harm the baby. I am still very worried and wondered if anybody has any experience with this. Thank you!
