Lamotrigine dose bipolar disorder

Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine dose bipolar disorder

lamictal

Avatar f tn It is an anti-seizure medicine commonly used for bipolar disorder. Pharmacies often do not always mark on the bottle when they do not fulfill a script. I would not automatically rush to judgement. I am confused when you say that he is addicted to opiates. Soma is not an opiate. It is a sedative, used for muscle relaxation. Even though it is somewhat addictive, it is not an opiate and does not present the same challenge of withdrawal as true opiates do.
Avatar m tn Antipsychotics control mania just because they can. Anticonvulsants work because they discovered bipolar disorder is a chronic inflammation in the brain that prevents uptake of omega 3 which explains why people with bipolar disorder benefit from taking doses of it.
574118 tn?1305135284 Hi, sorry if some of what I wrote was repeated but I'm using my phone instead of a laptop. and it's a nightmare it has a mind of it's own but I still can't bring myself to get my laptop (I know, lazy ;-D) I was given Cod fish oils by the Maudsley hospital, London a psychiatric teaching hospital. They were part of a recent study and they asked if I was willing to try them as they can have mood stabilizing qualitys when used in bipolar disorder.
1756969 tn?1332437163 It is unlikely that the symptoms are caused by lamotrigine as you are not on an effective dose yet. So, since the dose is low it can't stop the depression from coming on that is caused by your bipolar. Lamotrigine is not known for causing depression. The lowest dose usually seen as effective is 200mg. But, with this drug you have to increase it slowly. Give it more time and get up to a therapeutic dose. I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects.
1310468 tn?1274863925 Lamotrigine and some other anti-convulsant medications are approved for maintenance treatment in bipolar I disorder, because they have something to do with altering the excitability threshold of certain neurons. We're not yet entirely sure how that helps to control mood instability in bipolar disorder, but they are proven to be very effective in this regard. The good thing about lamotrigine in particular is that it can also have an anti-depressant on top of the mood stabilization!
1756969 tn?1332437163 Borderline Personality Disorder is primarily relationship problems with high drama, fear of abandonment and mood fluxuations. Bipolar is a mood stabilization disorder with mania or hypomania (lower level mania) alternating with depression. Lamictal is a antiseizure med that is also a mood stabilizer that is primarily used for bipolar and seizure disorders. Some pdocs give lamictal to people with BPD to help with the mood fluxuations (lower mood changes than with bipolar).
Avatar m tn I was recently dx'ed with type 2 bipolar disorder and, am now on 20mgs of paxil and, 100mgs of lamictal. It has help the suicide feelings I was having, but am still very depressed at night. I have alot of medical issues besides this and, know this is part of the reason for the depression. Is there anythign else I can try to ease up on the depression. I am going to a psychiatrist for meds and will have my first session with a psycologist next week. What else can I do?
Avatar f tn [14][15][16] Off-label psychiatric usage includes the treatment of depersonalization disorder, bipolar II disorder and other bipolar disorders, schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
1039200 tn?1314912008 Hi I take lyrica for my bipolar 2 rapid cycle disorder. Although the fda in America hasn't caught up, over in Europe they are using lyrica as a bipolar med in conjunction with other meds. I can't take any form of anti-depressant because I freak out. I have 3 herniated disc in my back but take lithium so I can't take any anti-inflammatories, which only leaves opiates which my body becomes addicted to very fast, then I get to suffer through opiate withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've suffered from bipolar disorder (rapid cycling) for quite a good few year's (10 years to be precise, though I experienced symptoms at least a good five year's before this)... Over the year's I've tried quite a few mood stabilisers/anti-psychotics (carbamazapine, valporate & Quietiapine... Just to name a few)....
Avatar n tn All 9 patients were treated to remission. From the lowest daily dose to the highest daily dose, mean increase in lamotrigine was 102.8 mg. Clinically adequate seizures were obtained in each patient. Lamotrigine had minimal effect on each measured ECT parameter. The interval between ECT treatments was spaced to a mean of 15.2 days. The treatment combination was well tolerated, with no serious adverse events, no rashes, and no worsening of cognitive side effects.
Avatar m tn Lamotrigine has been successful in controlling rapid cycling and mixed bipolar states in people who have not received adequate relief from lithium, carbamazepine and/or valproate. It also appears that lamotrigine has significantly more antidepressant potency than either carbamazepine or valproate. Lamotrigine is also useful as part of the treatment of some people with major (unipolar) depression.
Avatar f tn ve just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. He said that I have taken it so far wouldn't harm the baby. I am still very worried and wondered if anybody has any experience with this. Thank you!
574118 tn?1305135284 s available where you are, Latuda (lurasidone) just got approval for bipolar depression. It might be too expensive, though. Also, have you tried lamotrigine? Abilify is another good suggestion.
1756969 tn?1332437163 hi everyone, i was just given a rx for this drug listed above for supposingly my borderline personality disorder but as i am researching it says its for bi polar disorder or seizures etc.. can someone who is licensed or qualified tell me what this drug is and what it helps for. 925572 tn?1246540031 Well one of my aunts has bipolar disorder and was pregnant before but she doesn't use the computer that I know of. I don't know many details except while pregnant it was the only time she hallucinated in her life.
Avatar f tn When I started taking that I noticed it helped about the same way for me. I still have my ups & down's but it's better. I'm gradually increasing my dose. Have had some side effects but they have gotten better.
Avatar f tn There is an 'Ask the Doctor' forum on Mood Disorders. I go there occassionally and he is really good, and it is one of the few ones of these that is free. I would post your questions to him. What I know is from doing a tremendous amount of research. I've read almost every bipolar book out there, try to keep up with the research, etc. I am a person for whom knowledge equals power.
Avatar f tn In about 2011 or so (i was like 17 I wanna say) I was perscribed Lamotrigine for bipolar disorder. Taking that medication seems to have been the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life. Or, the most coincidental occurance I've ever heard of. Just a week after tapering daily to the regular dose, I began to feel what I called "crippling anxiety". My doc hardly believed me when I said it and, get this, UPPED my dose of Lamotrigine.
1576249 tn?1296087202 Unfortunatly you are being treated for far more disorders than nessacary. BiPolar disorder takes a long time to DX. Deparkote will undoubtably put 30 lbs. on your body. Propranalol will make you drowsy, un ambitious. and Xanax is a fast acting anxiety answer. BiPolar is a very serious disorder. Unfortunatly with much stigma. Once you are medicated for BiPolar your life will change drastically. I have been BiPolar all my life. Have been mistreated to over medicated to a toxic level.
Avatar m tn It may be good to be reevaluated to be sure you suffer bipolar disorder. Then the Pdoc in charge can work hard at adjusting your medications. There are also Sex Addicts support groups. It may help to talk with others like yourself. As the above advice, Cymbalta is one antidepressant that will lower your sex drive. Talk to Pdoc I was on Wellbutrin & Cymbalta, but recently the Pdoc had me wean off both. Personally I had bipolar personality traits all of my life.
574118 tn?1305135284 Antidepressants or other meds initiate a permanent change in symptoms, causing them to become more extreme and cross the threshold into diagnosable - or clinical - bipolar disorder. Some meds can do the above, and others can cause short-term bipolar symptoms in some people. It could be that those people have some of the genetics of bipolar, but not enough for a diagnosis-- Yesterday a strange thing occurred to me.
Avatar f tn Remember that leaving your bipolar untreated also has risks and side effects, like the fact that death by suicide is pretty high in bipolar disorder. So with meds, you go for whatever option ***** the least (and you can add treatments to deal with side effects, like taking fiber supplements for constipation that comes with some meds). And every med on earth has side effects.
Avatar m tn Slitting wrists doesn't necessarily indicate bipolar disorder, but I'm assuming in your mind you have other things that are indicative of bipolar disorder in mind. Keep in mind self-diagnosis is often wrong and also keep in mind going and seeking help by getting diagnosed does NOT mean you have to take medication for whatever you end up diagnosed with. They will offer it to you, but you do not have to accept it. Therapy can be a very powerful tool.
Avatar n tn Recently I've been diagnosed with a bit of Bipolar Disorder. My doctor put me on Lamotrigine, a mood stabilizer normally used to treat epilepsy, seizures. I've experienced a little bit of blurred vision every now and then from it but wonder why I'm having a small trace of vaginal bleeding every once in a while. I'm on Portia as a birth control method and I haven't had my period for a while now.
