I think they're confused. If you read the full prescribing information, it's the PILL that screws with the lamotrigine, not the other way around. It's not like a lot of other anticonvulsants. And unlike some other seizure medicines, it does not reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. You may be more likely to develop a serious rash if you take a higher starting dose or increase your dose faster than your doctor tells you that you should. Your first doses of medication may be packaged in a starter kit that will clearly show you the right amount of medication to take each day during the first 5 weeks of your treatment.
All 9 patients were treated to remission. From the lowest daily dose to the highest daily dose, mean increase in lamotrigine was 102.8 mg. Clinically adequate seizures were obtained in each patient. Lamotrigine had minimal effect on each measured ECT parameter. The interval between ECT treatments was spaced to a mean of 15.2 days. The treatment combination was well tolerated, with no serious adverse events, no rashes, and no worsening of cognitive side effects.

They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
Yes, you can take lamotrigine if you have hepatitis C. If you have serious liver damage, the dose may have to be reduced.
Because this is a new drug for you, watch for the rash/swelling in the first few weeks. This drug can cause severe skin rashes. You need to let your doctor know if the rash or swelling occur.
I´ve been taking 200 mg of lamotrigine for a while -about 3 years. But. My swinging moods along the year have not really changed. My doctor insists in the 200 mg. doses. I´m esceptic. Conclusion: I´m about to drop lamotrigine and start all over again. I´m a natural optimistic. Thanks for answering.
I had about 10 depressive episodes in 2-3 years and they stopped completely when I started lamotrigine (well, apart from the one, but it was work related). You probably already know lamotrigine (Lamictal) works better for the depression side more than the manic side.
Lamotrigine (Lamictal) seems to be missing from your list. It is weight-neutral, but of course it, too, has a list of possible side effects. In my case, I really liked it as a mood stabilizer, but over time it caused pronounced hand tremors. The big one to watch out for is the risk of a severe and potentially dangerous rash. If Lamotrigine is ramped up very slowly, that risk is greatly diminished.

Hey all, my name is Daniel and I'm 21 years young. In about 2011 or so (i was like 17 I wanna say) I was perscribed Lamotrigine for bipolar disorder. Taking that medication seems to have been the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life. Or, the most coincidental occurance I've ever heard of. Just a week after tapering daily to the regular dose, I began to feel what I called "crippling anxiety".

I've had PNH for over 20 years and for the last 10 years or so the most effective dose was 400mg lamotrigine per day. But annoyingly it's got worse these past few months and I had to increase the dosage. I was discharged at Walton Centre in Liverpool several years ago but feel I'd like a new opinion. Does anyone know who or where new testing and research is taking place in the UK?
If your antiepileptic are causing kidney damage you may need dose titration or an alternative drug. It is important to know your detailed medical history, history of seizures and drug dosage and test results before advising you. I am taking carbamazepine, occasional lamotrigine and have recently been advised by my neurologist to add pregabalin, 2 daily. At present, my TN has shifted from the usual position from the left side of my face and down the left side of my nose to a new and very painful path from the scalp (front forehead) and down the left side of my nose. I cannot bear to touch my scalp without bringing on a spasm. Is it normal for trigeminal neuralgia to change position in this way? Thank you.
I've been on lamotrigine (lamictal) for years. I've taken many other medications for bp and not much has worked for whatever reasons. I did not find relief until I got on lamictal. It took several months to work the dose up a little at a time and some fine tuning to get the dose right. Now I'm on 300mg lamotrigine. I had some tremors and had some balance problems on the higher doses. I also take 450mg lithium carbonate and 60mg methylphenidate (this one's in the morning).
When I started taking that I noticed it helped about the same way for me. I still have my ups & down's but it's better. I'm gradually increasing my dose. Have had some side effects but they have gotten better.
