I tried asking the doctors about this but they were more concrened with the seizures and just reminded me to watch out for Steven Johnson Syndrome. I am very concerned because she is back on the medicine and the coughing is back. I am just wondering if there are any cases of lamictal causing lung damage or affecting the lungs.

Well, I recently started on lamotrigine (about four weeks ago) and I had a little bit of diarrhoea here and there, which I just didn't think about until I read your post. Mine didn't last very long, though. I guess it is just my body getting used to it. You're titrating the lamotrigine up slowly to lessen the chance of Steven-Johnson's syndrome, right? I suggest you wait a month after you finish titrating up and if it's still terrible, try something else.

The doctors and nurses there dismissed Stevens Johnson Syndrome almost immediatly. A few hours later the doctor indicated his opionion that it was herpes. Swabs and blood work are in process. My daughter is devastated and embarrassed. Is it possible to contract herpes via another avenue than sexual exposure, notably for a child this young.

Oh, I should say at about 1 month I went to my derm and showed her my tongue and mouth and some spots on my chest that were starting to bleed and she instantly thought Steven Johnson Syndrome. What do you guys think? Can ARS appear in 12 hours as a systemic yeast infection and then test out negative for yeast?

If the topical for your acne was prescribed and red spots appeared, calling and letting the prescribing doctor know is important. You will experience some withdrawal symptoms so it might be best to have this supervised in a hospital. Lamictal by FDA regulation (I remember when I took it and other people as well, you can also look on the medication website) must be titrated at rate of 25 mg. per week because of the risk of Steven's Johnson Syndrome. I would change psychiatrists definitely and also find a way to write a formal complaint (after everything else has stabilized) about this as that should not have been done.

I have been out of the hospital for almost 2 weeks now after suffering Stevens Johnson syndrome from lamictal, a medication I was taking to treat Bipolar 2. I had a horrible rash all over my body, cold sores in my mouth and burnt lips. My liver enzymes were 1000. My eyes burned, nose burned and I got a yeast infection as a result. I feel much better as the rash is pretty much gone and my skin is peeling a little. However, my yeast infection seems to be back.

Hi, I don’t think you have got steven johnson syndrome as it’s a medical emergency in which the epidermis separates from the dermis and this can be life threatening. It can occur following infections or use of certain drugs. I don’t think the antibiotics could have caused it either. I’ll suggest getting a complete blood count as a low platelet count can cause both skin rashes and traces of blood in urine. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.

Steven Johnson Syndrome. However, it is very rare and those that did develop the rash were children, people that increased the dose too quickly and those that were also on Depakote. And, again, it as rare. In out patient studies, they have found that the chances of developing a rash are around 1/55,000 people and that's probably a high estimate. Those that developed Steven Johnson Syndrom were obviously more likely to come forward than those that were stable.

Oh, I made a misleading statement about cause of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome which I don't really know how my fingers and brain collided when I type with just 2 fingers. I did not mean it's ONLY caused by drug reaction, although it seems to be the "popular" cause with the Syndrome. It can also be caused by infections. It can also spread to the whole body except for the scalp (Come to think of it, I've never seen horrible skin reactions touch the scalp that I can remember.

Something to bear in mind with the Lamictal and the rash potential. For me, the medication dries out my skin like you wouldn't believe. Because of that I get contact dermatitis, which looks like a rash, initially. The rash isn't something to mess around with, but there were a few scares where the dry skin was causing problems; it wasn't an allergic reaction. Obviously, if you think it's a rash, take it seriously.

The specific reaction to Lamictal is called Stephen's Johnson syndrome and it is a rare and dangerous allergic reaction to it. When that happens if a psychiatrist or doctor diagnoses it they will stop the Lamictal. There are some other mood stabilizers and medications in general that can cause this reaction but many don't such as lithium and most others. That side effect is specific to Lamictal and that's why it has to be raised at a specific titrated rate as mandated by the FDA.

After having a burning sensation when I pre and irritation. In my vaginal area inside my urethra, I recently discovered that I have a UTI and was prescribed the drug Bactrim. I am suppose to take it twice a day for 3 days. Anyway, I have a history of being allergic to antibiotics and getting the "rare" side effects. Yeah, that's not the kind of rash to screw around with...But, if you were also on Epilim at the same time, your increase in getting a rash jumps quite a bit higher. In fact, that's another reason why my shrink and I weren't too concerned with the rash; a lot of the Steven-Johnson Syndrome cases in clinical studies involved folks (particularly children) taking both medications. Honestly, most shrinks won't give you both valproate (Epilim) and Lamictal at the same time.

I would say if the doctor says there is nothing to worry about that means that they believe the rash is not from Lamictal because if they did then they would give specific instructions to see them immediately. It may be any other dermatological concerns that are not related to the Lamictal and are harmless. The specific rash of concern is called Stephen's Johnson syndrome and is a full blown allergic reaction that can be caused by Lamictal among other medications and is very dangerous.

I have a minor rash in patches on my face, but it is nothing compared to the steven-johnson rash pictures online. I was just wondering if anyone else had these type of symptoms and if they went away? This is the only medicine I have found to help me, and I really don't want to go off of it?

I was sent to an infectious disease specialist because for a year I had been running intermittent fevers, was severly anemic, had awful night sweats and everytime they tried any medication I ended up with either Steven Johnson Syndrom or multi organ DRESS . He diagnosed me with a past infection of Q fever and said because I did extensive travel in areas noted for Q fever he felt the titers were correct.
