I am on 50mg topiramate 2x a day and 250 mg Divalproex in the morning and 500 at night. Both drugs are known to cause hair loss. As well topirimate can cause one who is on birth control pills to get pregnant & or cause break through bleeding!! I'm 48!! I don't need a pregnancy, plus if you get pregnant the baby could have a cleft palate! Why don't these bastards tell us that before? I experience some form of memory loss on antipsychotics but the medicine that really caused me to have that level of memory loss and confusion like you describe was Cogentin which can cause Alzheimer's-like side effects, although Cogentin isn't a psych med, it's a side effect pill. topamax is not an atypical antipsychotic rather an off-label anticonvulsant (antiepilepsy) drug to stabilize BP. Strange one of the side effects is anorexia (loss of appetite). The only drug i know which doesn't cause weight gain is lamotrigine. But aside from it all the AC's, lithium, AP's even AD's cause weight gain. In short all BP drugs increase weight. I got a partial response from Geodone (called Zeldox where I live) and lamotrigine, but I started to lose weight rapidly (got down to a size 2) so they switched to Abilify and my life is sooo much better. I just finished Sovaldi and olysio and no hair loss at all, in fact hair looked great I do have hypothyroid which is familial, mother , daughters have it, Check your thyroid levels That can effect hair loss, dryness etc( even my eye brows and under arms thinned from hypothyroidism ) You may need to be on thyroid medication such as synthyroid if it is off

I am now 90 pounds heavier (I started gaining weight on the meds and continued after) and not even able to get pregnant (probably too heavy and getting off the meds messed up my system.) I want' to get pregnant which was fine with everyone two months ago before I got off my meds now everyone thinks I'm in need of major help and need to get my head straight. I just don't know what to do because after researching these meds I'm very scared to get pregnant on them.
