Common Questions and Answers about Lamivudine mode of action

epivir

Avatar m tn would you kindly do me a favorite, in general, if one person eat two pills of lamivudine, 200MG, in four weeks of exposure, does it will prevent the serconversion or in another word, does it will extend the window period? just help, do not need your answer resposible for this question, so scared, please, thank you, best wish!
Avatar m tn I'm not ashamed - rather funny. I can offer conduct a new experiment - measuring the level of HBsAg in response to the mercy of "lice with honey," and all of a sudden? But if without laughing, I propose to reflect at leisure, there is some anti-HIV drugs, protease inhibitors, a similar effect on HBV, because they act at an earlier stage of virus replication than tenofovir and the like.
Avatar n tn I know a person recently diagnosed with chronic Hep B who got a prescription for Lamivudine based on ONE set of labs. That was from a GI who supposedly had experience with hep. Well, if this person hadn't done their own research that could have been a disaster. Turns out that they aren't a good candidate for treatment yet. Whatever you decide, do not stop the antiviral on your own and without frequent monitoring (every 2 weeks to a month in the beginning).
Avatar m tn All patients developed decompensated liver disease despite one patient having had a prior liver biopsy showing absence of cirrhosis. Reintroduction of lamivudine therapy failed to halt progression of liver decompensation even after hepatitis B virus DNA had been demonstrated to be absent. Sequencing for lamivudine resistant mutants in two cases where serum was available failed to show evidence of mutations associated with lamivudine resistance.
Avatar m tn To date, 10 patients had undergone liver biopsies at the last follow-up, all of whom had either 100mg lamivudine or 0.5mg entecavir at baseline and had been switched to 1.0mg entecavir during follow-up (median follow-up: 11.4 years; range 10.7 - 11.5 years). At baseline, the median serum HBV DNA, ihHBV-DNA and cccDNA levels were 6.66 logIU/mL, 273 copies/cell, and 3.2 copies/cell, respectively.
Avatar m tn and lamivudine is out of guidelines for hbv, what kind of nazy country are you from to allow such distortions of healthcare?
Avatar m tn Lam is not good due to high rate of resistance so would suggest you change now before its late or do a combo.
Avatar m tn She has also been a patient of anemia. For the last 1.5 years she has been on lamivudine 100 after her hbv dna crossed 86 lacs. iu/ml in 2012.So far everything has been fine, the liver enzyme levels(AST/ALT/ALP) have nearly normalized, platelet count has increased. But one day ago she underwent a blood test and found that:Sgpt=206,Sgot=131,Alk. phosphatase=88,serum bilirubin total=0.9...While alk.
Avatar m tn I've also just stared taking heptovit, but with lamivudine i'm afraid of the widrawal symtoms.
Avatar m tn * Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusively negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusively negative results or a no-risk situation will be based upon the criteria established by MedHelp’s doctors.
Avatar n tn I understood what you explained me about it. Should I check blood test on HBV/DNA/PCR or HBsAg (Quantity) ? If resistance of lamivudine, what name of the drug will be changed? - If the HBsAb become Positive level, my liver working well or not? - What drugs can't I use? (Avoid hepatotoxic) when I got diarrhea - Headache or fever.
Avatar f tn 1) dump the doctor who prescribe you Lamivudine (and on top of that never bothered to check for DNA) and if you have a chance tell him that he is ignorant and dangerous for the society 2) go for Tenofovir (rather then Entecavir) as Tenofovir is the choice for Lamivudine exposed patients.
Avatar f tn Like Dr. Pernoud stated there is no relationship between altitude and rds or glaucoma. However, if you've had a pneumatic retinopexy recently w/ SF6 or C3F8 you are not able to go to high altitudes or travel via plane as this will cause an increase in IOP.
Avatar m tn Because I am taking lamivudine daily, will this cause the delay of seroconversion. I think the test was done about 18 months after events that I thought maybe risky. 3. My test is Combo TypeI/II antibody and p24 antigen QUAL CMIA. Is it reliable? 4. My HBV DNA level is sometimes undetectable, but sometime a few hundreds. Will this means my body contract some other virus? It is because I know lamivudine also treat HIV virus as well. 5.
Avatar m tn lvd is not the first choice and it stops working after years of use due to the fact virus develpos resistance.
Avatar n tn As much as you need this job you must be careful on the choice of drug you make. Lamivudine is not a cure for HBV. Untill such cure is found supression of VL is the altimate goal. Good luck and take care.
Avatar n tn I looked up the website for Entecavir after your recommendation, and it appears it is a newer drug than Epivir, and the result is better in terms of resistance. Epivir, the the best of my knowledge, is Category C for women, which means to me that "not proven" on human, but proven safe on lab animals. So, since Entecavir is newer, what is the status of lab testing? Also Category C?
