Common Questions and Answers about Lamisil oral medication

lamisil

Avatar f tn It is used to treat infections caused by fungus that affect the fingernails or toenails. Lamisil oral granules are used to treat a fungal infection of scalp hair follicles in children who are at least 4 years old. It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended.
Avatar n tn t feel comfortable prescribing oral medication, so we went to a dermatologist who gave him Griseofulvin. I had done some research, so I asked why not the newer alternatives that work faster. He seemed to feel Griseofulvin was safer, but I'm reading it's more toxic. Just one example: There is another kind of oral medication known as Griseofulvin (Grisactin), which is prescribed less often since the arrival of the newer medicines.
Avatar f tn m hoping for opinions concerning a new drug my dermatologist has added. Prescribed Lamisil 250 mg for 24 wks, (oral). He is drawing liver profile labs every month. I guess I'm alittle worried since I just got rid of the virus in January, an this med. can possibly be rough on the liver. I have an extremely painful case of fungal nails for years. I'm not that vain, an would let them remove the nails permanently, but dr.
Avatar f tn It spread to the finger next to it. Doctor put me on lamisil tablets 250 mg. I have been on the medication for 11 days and it does not appear to be helping. The fungus has spread to other parts of my hand and even to the other hand. I called the doctor's office and nurse told me to give it 2 weeks. I can understand taking 2 weeks before seeing positive results but should the fungus be spreading during the first 11 days while on the medication?
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn Is there an over-th-counter medication for ringworm ? I can't get to my dermitologist before New Years and i would like to at least try to get rid on this ringworm.
Avatar m tn lamisil as in the foot cream?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnose with a skin fungus infection (dermamytocosis) and the dermatologist has prescribed Lamisil (terbinafine hydrochloride) very strong tablets with quite a few side effects. I would like to try natural alternatives like apple cider vinegar but could the infection spread out or perhaps can resolved by itself over time. Will I be prone to get fungus infections in the future?
Avatar m tn I too have toenail infection for years, was not doing anything about it because of the posible liver damage. GP sent me to dermatologist who urged me to take lamisil pill & lamisil cream. He did NOT prescribe monthly blood tests. A substitute Dr caught that one! I was on the stuff for 6 months...noticed legs and feet were yellowing. Went to new Dr, took me off lamisil immediatley and ordered tests (fecal occult and blood) . Right now she's called me back after receiving test results....
Avatar n tn my regular doctor prescribed me something called bactrim which was a ten day oral medication that seemed to work, but when that was used up and i got my next haircut it was back again. now im just not getting a haircut for a while and waiting to go see my doctor again to see whats going on.
Avatar n tn t respond to over-the-counter medicine, you may need a prescription-strength topical or oral medication. These include topical antifungals like econazole (Spectazole) or oxiconazole (Oxistat) and oral antifungals like Itraconazole (Sporanox),Fluconazole (Diflucan) or Terbinafine (Lamisil) Triamcolone acetonide is a more potent type of triamcinolone, being about 8 times as effective as prednisone. It should not be used to treat fungal infections without consulting a dermatologist.
Avatar n tn I tried lamisil cream for 4 weeks with only a slight improvement and then saw my GP. He prescribed ciclopirox which I used for 5 weeks with maybe 25-50% improvement, but it would occasionally flare and come back just as strong. Went back to the GP and he suggested maybe the fungus was almost gone and that it was more inflammation than anything. To be sure, he prescribed oral ketoconazole for 2 weeks and prescription hydrocortisone.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if anyone out there really has had a bad health experience with the combination of having Hep B for many years, although my Hep B has been dormant for the past 14 years and has not started to do anything to my liver as of today, and taking presciption strength Lamisil for toe nail fungus. My Dr. put me on the Lamisil for 12 weeks and says that after 6 weeks we will check my blood and liver to see if there is any change in my Hep B.
Avatar f tn (this is what the dermatologist also thought, Even though there was nothing found in the scratch test, And had me take an oral medication as well as topical cremes but nothing worked). For people who have tinea versicolor, Can they have it and then it goes away (so does not show up on the test) but still have the spots as side effects?
Avatar f tn I looked at the pictures and that's heavy toe fungus from the looks of it. I'm glad you are seeing your doctor. It can take months for it to go away. Oral medication such as terbinfine (brand names are Lamisil and Terbinex) are supposed to be effective. These are pills you take and not a cream like you've been using. Your doctor should be able to prescribe that? I'd ask them to. https://my.clevelandclinic.

Avatar f tn I went to the doctor for this a few times, the provided 2 different types of anti fungal topical cream, and even oral medication but it kept coming back. The anti bacterial ointment and keeping it clean and dry was the only thing that worked.
Avatar m tn I had unprotected oral sex with a person 2 days ago where i was receiving. I woke up 5 hours later to a rash of small red bumps on the head of my penis and inside my foreskin. Also, on the tip of my penis i have what looks like a white patch. Any ideas? I have no fever and as far as i can tell no swelling. The bumps are not itchy. I am currently applying Lamisil Spray( terbinfine) hoping it is a yeast infection. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn I found some tiny red spots on the inner side of my little finger, of my right hand, approximately 2 months ago. It was very itchy and I thought it was an insect bite. I am pregnant, and talked to my OB/GYN and she thought it might be just a skin allergy, so I started applying a corticoid cream (over the counter). I used it for a week, and it felt fine at the beginning but then it came back. It is really itchy and red, and it has expanded all over the inner side of the finger.
Avatar m tn Immediately I started applying Lamisil (terbinafine) every morning till today. All the redness and everything else is gone, but if I look at the skin from the side, I can still see the "circles" (in slightly different skin tone) where the fungi was located... does it mean that I'll have to keep on applying the cream for longer till I don't see those circles?
Avatar n tn have the corners removed if the ingrown is still problematic 2) apply mentax cream twice daily to the yeast 3) file the nail aggressively to remove most of the fungal nail. then, apply Lamisil cream on the nails twice daily. always file the nail prior to application to allow the medication to penetrate. once the nails look improved, switch over to tea tree oil.
Avatar n tn I asked them if I could take the lamisil oral medication anyway and whether it could do me bad (in case of pityriasis rosea) and they said no problem. I am still confused and I would like some advice and maybe information on specific differences I could notice between the two different rashes.
Avatar n tn I also have a fungus on my toenails and in between my toes, if that is the case could what I am experiencing on my penis be related and the steroid cream I have been using did not cure it but made the symptoms less? He put me on oral lamisil for 30 days to clear my feet up and he said it might help on the groin area as well. Any input on that please?
Avatar n tn I was told by my doctor that it was tinea but i havent been responding so well to the lamisil. it itches something bad then burns. It seems to be popping up on different areas on my legs and hands.
