knee pain questions

I had keen surgery to fix a torn meniscal tear back in may and have arthritis in my keen in the bone for the last six months I have not felt a least bit better still have pain in back of knee and now have sever pain in the inner part of my keen after walking for just ten mins. I just had another MRI today and show the tear was still the but the doctor said that normal to still show the tear after being fix.

He did an ultrasound and drew off some more fluid and gave him another cortizone shot. The first doctor drew the fluid from under his knee and the second drew it from his knee cap. It has been several weeks now and his pain is back he still has a little swelling but now both his knees hurt. He wears a brace on both his knees now. He has trouble getting up if he has to get down on the ground for something. We are not sure what to do now because both doctors has told him all his test look fine.

Your description reminded me of that. also the bulging disk would explain the pain down the legs as Sciatica. the swelling behind the knee sounds like a bakers cyst that gets inflamed from sitting is what is bothering your knee, Mine does if I ride a bike. as far as the other pains in the neck I have stenosis a narrowing of the spinal corridor This causes nerves to be pressed that effects many parts of our body..

I have had a really painful right knee under the knee cap,its gradually becoming worse when I kneel down or go up and downstairs(particular going upstairs) I have to hold the rail going up as the pain is really bad.my knee does give way at times and if I turn awkwardly I get a severe shooting pain in my knee.I have seen my doc who is sending me to a specialist and arranged physio.what is a knee wash and what does it entail ,she also thinks my menisca is damaged.what treatment can I expect?

t cut any of the ligaments though on the side when they put the total knee in? I will get my shoulder taken care of first. The pain is just overbearing in my bicep. Thanx agian.

I would not advice you joint replacement at 48 yrs unless you have severe knee pain and disability to walk, etc.

Hi! Thanks for responding to my post. To answer your questions, I don't have any pain in my other knee or thigh. As of today, it's been hurting for a week, but the pain has toned down the last couple of days. I haven't gotten any relief from elevation or applying heat or ice. It's driving me nuts. My mother suffered with RA and my symptoms never sounded like anything she went through. Once again, thanks for responding to both you and zeeoat.

This time, he also tested the sensory system by using objects to sense the way temperature and pain were effecting me. I felt more pain in the knee than the foot and it was much colder at the knee than the foot. I don't know if this is a good thing or not. After explaining my symptoms to my NL and after performing the exam (the worst being my headaches), he is sending me for 3 more MRIs - Brain, Head and Carotid. Can someone explain to me why he is doing this?

Hi everyone, I'm a 37 year old who broke her right tibia & fibula a year ago yesterday and had a tibial rod fitted, I'm not sure if it's titanium or stainless steel. I was blessed with a quite quick recover and a few weeks ago even stepped my exercise regime up a notch to high cardio workouts at the gym. Ever since the rod was put in I have frequent had knee pain. Not quite constant but there most of the time. It's worse after exercise, even walking.

I had my right knee TKR in June 2010, I cannot recall what the pain was pre-op, but I do know that it is very bad and has been since surgery. I have fairly good function with the knee and am able to do the work I love (I would be very depressed to lose that) but work is the whole of my life as it HURTS during the work day and it takes the rest of my day to 'recover' somewhat. I have pain in the night quite often and pain upon waking.

6am months ago i got a golf ball sized lump on the back of my knee. A week later pain started in my knee. For about a month the pain got worse. Then the painspread to my right shoulder. Then a week later my left should then my left knee now 6am months layer i have extreme pain in both knees both elbows both shoulders both wrists sometimes my fingers and toes and my left hip. I have the same problem with my right knee and recently had an x-ray which was found to be normal. My rheumatoligist said it was inflammation and to take anti-inflammatories and painkillers when needed. You can buy gels or creams which you could apply at night and this may give you a chance of some decent sleep.

I have constant pain, and can not move knee certain directions are impossible. I never even iced my knee and it is still swollen. My regular dr. saw me last week and said based on my MRI report I definitly have some abnormalities and will see an orthopedic dr. and likely get arthoscopic evaluation. I have been on crutches and ibuprofen 800 for the last month, my pain is increasing in my knee, im becoming intolerant to any weight bearing on my knee at all, the pain is becoming severe.It feels really unstable. Thanks again!!

I have hyper reflexes in my legs. When the hammer comes out and the neuro taps my knee, my knee jerks way out there. It's hard for me to believe my legs do this when I have such limited flexibility in them. My neuro tells me I have spasticity in my legs. A more knowledgeable person than myself may be able to tell you if the increased reflexes means spasticity. Most all my reflexes are hyper. If you find out what this means, be sure to let us know!

I would describe it has very uncomfortable, frustrating and it just plain hurts. My doctor took x=rays of knee which were normal and gave me shot in knee which didn't help.

As far as diagnosis, treatment or cure, more information is needed . Regarding the unbearable knee pain, you should consider a arthritis cause or a severe ligment injury . I'm former army surgeon,I know it's hard to do somthing in army. Take care!

s no blood in the damaged part of my meniscus, why do I swell after leg strengthening exercises. I have pain in the knee when twisting the joint, even when simply crossing my injured leg on the other. However, I can run pain free as long get a secure foot plant and I don't twist the knee. Is this consistent with a simple Meniscus tear? The joint itself doesn't seem "right". As though the parts aren't quite fitting together properly.

Hi JB, Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you have found us but very sorry to hear about your knee pain. In my personal opinion it is always best to get a second opinion when you have questions or are unsure what direction to go. It just can't hurt. Maybe he/she will have another option for you and a new set of eyes, experience and thoughts cannot be detrimental. "Bad knees" and TKR strongly run in my family. Each memeber has had a bit different experience.

Why is it that the Drs try to get you off pain meds when that is the only thing that keeps me sain, I do not think one of any of these Drs has ever had severe knee pain because they would certainly not be doing that to their patients! If anyone has any answers to my questions or can put me in the right direction please, please let me know!

t have the opportunity to read all the previous posts and questions. So, here we go. For the past 2 months, my knee has been slowly getting worse. It started with a little ache in the knee, but now it is to the point that it keeps me up all night. If I have my leg straight, it hurts like hell to bend it, and if I am sitting with it bent, I can't straighten it out. I am a teacher and several times when I go to stand up, my knee gives way when I try to get up.
