Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain going up the stairs

knee-pain

Avatar f tn I'm very scared! I was walking up the stairs and when I got to the top fell onto a bag of trash I had at the top of the steps. Onto my right side. Scuffed up my right knee and elbow. No blood but I haven't felt him move yet. I'm 38 weeks.
Avatar f tn t even any damage to my clothes from where I hit the pavement, so I figured the bumps and bruises were going to be the end of it. But a few days later, my left knee started to hurt. At first, it was just a little sore when I bent it--like to bike or go up and down stairs. By this morning, even just walking around caused pain. I feel it along either side of my knee and around the back, not really in/around my kneecap. It's a dull ache that turns sharp when the knee is bent a certain way.
Avatar f tn now that ive lost 82 lbs, im having more knee pain than before the surgery. I would occasionally have knee pain when I was extremely overweight whenever going up & down stairs. Now that I ve lost the weight, my knees hurt more often & I have to be careful when stepping up or down stairs, or bending over to pick something up off the floor. Is this because im not working out at all? Im not physically active at all & im wodering if this knee pain is because ive lost a lot of muscle?
Avatar f tn I went through about 4 sessions of treatment before I called it quits because my back and knee were in major pain and the dr kept pushing costly treatments. I plan on attending a Physical Therapist this summer once I can afford it. Anyways this brings me to my knee. Sometimes when I step down on it, like on stairs or even getting up from a chair too fast or just walking normally, I will feel a sharp (almost like electrocution) pain throughout the entire kneecap area.
Avatar m tn About two weeks ago I was coming down the stairs and my knee locked up and I got this terrible biurning pain right where my knee joint and knee cap meet on the right side. I was in agony and could hardly put any weight on my right leg because it felt like it would give out. Then after a half hour or so the pain went away and I was back to normal. It happens every once in awhiile mostly while I am coming down stairs. What could this be and what could be causing it?
Avatar f tn About 3 weeks or so ago I got up outta my chair to go upstairs and thought i was just sitting wrong because it hurt a little going up the stairs, but coming down the stairs it felt like the inside of my knee was just on fire and immediately swollen. i ended up dropping everything and almost falling down the stairs, being a mother with very limited transportation i just loaded up on tylenol and rode it out hoping i just pulled something...
Avatar n tn Hi the best thing to do is have a talk to your Family Doctor he/she should do there best to help ease your pain , it may come to surgery , Please take care , x
Avatar f tn It has been two days now and my almost 7 year old German Shepherd is all of a sudden can't walk up any stairs. She moves around great, can walk down the stairs, and her behavior seems normal. I took her to the Vet yesterday and he said physically she is normal. There was nothing out of the ordinary. She tries to climb the stairs but she can't even get past the first step. Any ideas on what I can do to help her or what it might be?
Avatar f tn Im 31 weeks and I go to the gym in the mornings and the first machine I hit is the stair master :-)
Avatar n tn It seems to run along the edge of the knee cap. At first the pain was only when I walked up and down stairs and had to put all my weight on one knee but now I can hardly extend my knee without getting sharp pains on the inside of the knee. Also, not sure if this is relevant, but there is a painless bruise on the middle of my knee right below my knee cap and I have no idea where it came from. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn I'm 32 and I've never had any sort of leg, knee, or joint problem. Lately I've noticed that when I plant my left foot and pivot on it to turn my body to the right, my left knee makes a popping sound. In the last few days I've noticed that I can feel something move in the same knee when I walk down stairs. It feels like it's located to the left (outside) of the center of the knee. The right knee doesn't have any issues.
Avatar f tn It hurts most when walking (when i straighten the leg out to take the next step with the achy leg- making it difficult to walk normally). Walking up stairs does not cause pain, nor does it hurt when i sit/rest, and actually seems to relieve the pain when bending the knee. It is not tender to touch, and i don't think it's swollen or warmer than the other knee. I did not injure my knee recently or anything like that recently, not that i'm aware of anyway.
Avatar f tn t done anything (knowingly) to injure it. The pain is below my knee cap where it meets the shin bone. It only hurts when in motion...walking or using stairs, or anytime I have my weight on it. I have to limp because the pain hurts so much. Some days are worse than others; some times there is very little pain. When sitting down there is no pain, and I can move my leg around with no pain while sitting. My knee pops occasionally but nothing new.
Avatar f tn I have had pain in my left knee for about 2 years, (18 year old, female). I recently went skiing and the pain flared up. Initionally I wasn't going to make an appointment at the orthopedics, but after a week the pain didn't change. Today while running up the stairs I fell and landed on my left knee, it has three small bruises (inner side) about an inch from the knee cap, although the whole area hurts, it's not all bruised... is it something I should worry about?

279415 tn?1217371630 I have had a horrible disasterous weekend and ended up being taken by ambulance to the ER. By the way I am almost 33 weeks pregnant. Heres what happened. We have been working on my daughers room and were just about finished and it looks amazing. I was being stuborn and absolutly insisted that I hang her curtians...even though Ivan(DH) kept telling me to let him do it..but of course i didn't.

Avatar m tn Almost 3 years ago I fell onto a cement floor onto my left knee. I can still walk, bend, run, etc but there is a place at the top of my patella that is still swollen and is sore and at times aches or has mild pain. Now, there is also occasionally pain in the inside (right) of the knee where it bends. I didn't have insurance at the time and never had it checked. I won't take medication to simply reduce swelling or manage pain since I've done well without it this long.
Avatar n tn d been having pain on the back of my knee, as well as on each side of my knee cap. My knee had been stiffening and locking if I climbed up more than a flight of stairs. The MRI came back last week, and I was told that it thankfully isn't serious, is inflamed in a few areas, to RICE it and to take ibuprofen. The impressions listed on the MRI were: 1.
Avatar f tn I woke up with two reddened circular spots as of this morning. One is on the right side of my thumb joint and the other is on the right side of my pointer finger knuckle. There is numbness on that thumb near my fingernail. It has been there since I woke up. The red spots aren't raised or itchy or anything, just normal skin except reddened. It doesn't seem serious so I don't know if it merits a visit to the doctor as of yet. Any ideas? Thanks.
Avatar f tn For the next 2 weeks I was limping and the pain was pretty severe. It started 5 years ago with pain going up and down the stairs. I saw an orthopedic and he told me it was overuse. Just 5 months ago I went to see him again and he ran an MRI and an X-ray. The X-ray showed nothing and the MRI showed thinning of the cartilage. It somtimes feels like something gets in the way in the front of my knee and then stepping down on it is extremely painful.
Avatar f tn He is concerned when he takes his braces off of a swelling/bump on the lower outside part of his knee cap. Coming down the stairs Saturday his knee gave way and he fell the last couple of steps down the stairs, this is worrying him. If I understand you correctly my husband knee could have arthritis in it and his x-ray and MRI would not show anything. Then how can they diagnose this condition? What questions should we ask the doctor? I look forward to your answers.
Avatar n tn I am only 40 but when I get up from a chair, walk or go up the stairs, I get pains in the top of my legs quite abit above the knee but below the thigh in both legs. I do suffer with plantar fasciatas (fallen arches). It feels like my bones are rubbing together and causing me pain. I'm wondering what it could be, and how I can prevent or treat it. I am open to any suggestions. Hope you can help me.
Avatar m tn Most of the time when I am walking around it feels like normal, however there are times that I feel excruiating pain in and around the knee. I have noticed most times it occurs is when i am bending deep with my knee I.e. getting into my car, going down stairs fast, bending down to pick something off the ground. However it does not always happen when I am doing these activities. When the pain starts the only way I have seen to relief the pain is to straighten out my leg.
198727 tn?1352054382 for example going up stairs in my house...Ill be going up the stairs and all of the sudden it feels like i spilled something on my knee. It can be either side. I will get to the top of my stairs and look down to wipe off my jeans...and there is nothing there that is wet. I have even gone as far as to pull my pants down to check to see if something has leaked out of my knee...because thats what it actually feels like...a leak in my knee? It happens 6-10 times a day now.
Avatar m tn Anyways, it hurts to bend the knee and walking up and down stairs causes slight pain as well. Any insight on the problem is appreciated. Thanks for your time!
