Avatar f tn my daughter who is 11 broke her knee cap snapped off one of the minscus ligaments right at the knee cap and the cartilage that covers the knee was torn..she wasn't doing anything except standing when this happened..she recently had surgery on Nov 30Th to repair it.her orthopedic surgeon said that with the repair he is not optimistic about the knee cap staying in place due to bone shifting and as well as tissue degenerating..
Avatar n tn It includes the articulation between the tibia and femur (leg and thigh) and the patella (knee cap) and femur. The most common knee problems in running relate to what is called the "patellofemoral complex". This consists of the quadriceps, knee cap and patellar tendon. What is now called patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) has also been called runner's knee, anterior knee pain, or chondromalacia of the patella.
Avatar m tn I am experiencing random jolting electrifying knee pain on the top of my knee cap. There is no swelling, no redness. The pain comes most often when Im sleeping and it's so painful I scream. The blankets can't even touch it without excruciating pain. I will add like 20 years ago I tripped and landed on top of my knee cap and it hurt for a good month. I have not had any issues until now. I am on my feet all day, but no time to exercise.
Avatar f tn But no use, then had advised me to wear knee cap for few days. I was feeling better with knee cap. I removed it after 25 days, it was little better for 2 days, then again the pain is back. After few days, went to orthopedic, he said no problems and advised me to do some exercises. Then also no use. I have still have the pain in my knee and following parts....couldn't talk for more than 10 mins. Could you please advise me how to solve this and become normal.
Avatar f tn The pain occurs mostly above the knee cap and slightly along both sides. I have never had any knee injuries nor do I remember injuring it prior to when the pain began. I made a doctor's appt for February 22nd but it seems to be getting worse and i'm not sure if I will be able to handle the pain. I have minimal swelling above the knee cap but no redness, warmth or presence of a fever.
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Gross, I had a total knee replacement 1 year ago for severe arthritis. The pain is still there and I can't walk right, also my knee cap keeps going out and I fall or almost fall. My Ortho gave me a brace to wear and PT to go to, to streng. then muscles around the knee. It hasn't helped. My knee cap is still my own. Why wasn't that replaced with the total knee also? Is that a norm? I am so upset and will be getting a second opinion. Any ideas why this is happening.
Avatar f tn s above the knee cap. Right now I just went for a 5 mile walk with my knee brace on and the front underneath my knee cap is very sore and it hurts to keep my knee bent. I'm a 27 year old female who has never had any knee problems before. I'm a geologist and so I really need my knees to be healthy. Unfortunately my health plan is horrible and really can't afford x-rays and MRI's if it ends up being nothing serious. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have applied an ibuprofen gel to the knee at the moment, If anything the knee with the problems is colder than the better knee (may be the ibuprofen gel) When i put pressure with my fingers onto the knee cap there is a slight numb feeling, no swelling, no fluid, no bruising, no redness....
Avatar f tn After the numbing agent wore off, it felt as if someone has taken a wedge and shoved it between my knee cap and shin ever since. I cannot put much pressure on my right knee as I feel like my knee will break upward. The actual knee cap is very sore on the opposite side of the injection site and it's terribly uncomfortable to straighten it out as it feels like my knee cap is going into my thigh. There is also a massive amount of swelling that radiates up to my thigh and down towards my shin.
Avatar m tn The pain is most apparent when i lift my left knee cap, you know how you can tense or whatever and your knee cap will move up.sometimes along with the pain i get twitching in my knee, i dont know what it is that twitches, but sometimes its rapid twitching that passes quickly. there must be something wrong because the right knee is fine. the pain isnt even bad, i can cope with it.
Avatar f tn My knee pops all the time, sometimes loud enough you can hear it. The pain is below the knee cap on the left and right side and ontop of the knee cap on the right side and on the inside of the knee from above the knee to below the knee. For the last week and a half I've been getting sharp pains on the right inside of the knee and above the knee while walking or turning from right to left. When this happens the pain is so bad that I can hardly walk.
1308443 tn?1302693321 This weekend my right knee began to have pain at the top of my knee cap. It feels like it is stuck on the pop. I can still get my knee to pop but it still feels like it is stuck on another pop. Usually my knees only hurt on the bottom or on the sides but never on the top. What is this? I know that my knee can't get stuck on air but that's what it feels like. What is going on and how do I get it to stop?
Avatar m tn have a knot on knee cap when to doc. 1974 said it was like munchhousen something and not the one for women doc.

Avatar m tn Last wk I was playing basketball and when I came down from jumping I had a real sharp pain in my knee and could not continue. Around the top of my knee cap is tender and hurts and when I put pressure on my knee getting out the car or anything I get sharp tack like pains under my knee cap and sometimes on the side of my knee and it aches a little, I have really slight swelling but I am able to walk. What do you think it is and what should I do?
Avatar n tn They went up the stairs, and so did this monter. Climbing/Crawling as fast as I could up the stairs, the top of my knee cap (Patella? area) of my knee got "caught" (slammed into) the curve of the next step up. It felt as though my knee cap slammed downward towards my shin/ankle area. A loud POP sounded and my knee instantly went numb and within about 6 seconds looked as though it had 3 ounces of liquid piling up in it. Within about a minute, a bruise was visible.
Avatar m tn My knee pain went away and it recently has come back. It feels like a knife goes into my knee right below my knee cap every time i jump or put a lot of pressure on it like trying to stand up. I have been icing it, but it won't go away....Does anyone 1. Know what is wrong? or 2. Know how to fix it?
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been having pain mainly in my left knee above and to the left of my left knee cap. I have had X-Rays and a MRI to see if any problems can be found. The doctors said they have found nothing wrong. I went a physical therapist around April of last year during spring track. He said I didn't have enough thigh strength. I do the exercises daily he instructed and they seem to not work anymore. Right now I am running winter track.
Avatar n tn Prepatellar bursitis, patellar subluxation, knee cap dislocation all can lead to pain directly over the knee cap.Rest, antiinflammatory medications, application of ice to the knee all are very important for reducing the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or are severe it is best to see an orthopaedician.I hope it helps. Best luck and kind regards!
Avatar m tn x-rays show obvious knee cap deteriation ( less than 50 % of the other knee in size ) and an old MRI report said slight sublexation- I have two questions untill I get a different referral from my PCP ( although the doc stated the obvious about the knee cap he did not even bother to allow me to show him what happens when I bend my knee and it wobbles and crunchs and did not even offer a brace solution to my falls ) 1.
Avatar m tn Is the pain under your knee cap or tendon? From what you are saying it sounds like your saying under your knee cap. You could have patellofemoral syndrome; very common for cyclists (read your bio). Try this website. http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_patellod_sma.
Avatar f tn For some reason lately I cannot squat or bend my knees. Not because of the knee cap but behind the knee.
Avatar f tn My question is can the cartilage and the knee cap be from that one injury? I never had problems with my knee prior! Workers Comp is saying that it is a genetic defect and I was born with this.
