Avatar n tn I suffer from what is called Polycystic Kidney Disease (google it) which causes chronic kidney stones. Many people have this disease with no signs until they are much olde. When their kidneys begin to fail them. Diarrhea is related because when the stone is stuck in the ureter ( the tube leading down to your bladder from your kidney) this sends a message to your entire digestive tract to stop.
Avatar n tn I am 31 year old female and diagnosed with Hypothyroid when i was 20 and Hashimotos about 5 years ago. This past April I began to suffer from kidney stones and had surgery for removal. Just six months later I am experiencing some pain in my kidneys again. I have been doing reserach on the Parathyroid and have read that there may be a correlation with kindey stones and thyroid issues. Any feedback or websites would be very helpful!
Avatar n tn An utra sound found nothing unusual. The urologist thinks it is either kidney stones or the residual effects of a bad infection. He would like me to get a CT. I am concerned as I have had 3 CT scans after a PE in both lungs 2 years ago after delivery. What are your thoughts? He does not think it is IC because it came on so suddenly. He said that the urine cultures were tainted due to the antibiotics. I can go 2-3.5 hours between void but I am holding it. What are your thoughts?
Avatar f tn I am now 30 wks pg and have been hospitalized once for the stones but they are still showing up in my kidney but from the pain I know it's kidney stone pain not something else I'm wondering if having two ureter on the right side or just the pg that's causing the excessive pain.
Avatar n tn A subsequent CT scan revealed I had 2 additionall ( 2mm non-obstructing) stones in my right kidney and a cluster of at least (four 2-3 mm stones in my left kidney). They were also non-obstructive. I've been told by a couple of doctors and urologists that they cannot be the cause of my pain, even though the pain feels just like when I had obsturctive ones. I can also feel the damn things moving around and it causes me to have kidney spasms.
443757 tn?1217554790 The riba is known to be rough on your kidneys. Caffiene can cause kidney stones. Usually you have to drink it for many years, but the alkalines, inclusive of all forms od speed, have an irritating effect and change PH making stones more formable. Also your genetics and cholesterol levels determine if and when you will get stones and how resislient your kidneys are, so at any age there is risk to certain people, and certainly to those on Riba therapy.
494669 tn?1275366075 You may want to explore some of the other communities available on MedHelp. I believe there is a kidney group. You can participate in as many you like. Welcome to our community.
Avatar f tn There are many medications that can contribute to the formation of kidney stones. Our systems are all different, two ppl can take the exact medications, one will develop stones and the other never will develop them. Turbo is correct, a good water intake is important with medications. Water dilutes the medications so they are not as harsh on your kidneys or liver. In a perfect world we should all drink large quantities of water. It is always important.
Avatar n tn I took her to the vet this morning, where they X-Rayed her, and found both Bladder and Kidney stones. This will be the third time that she will be having her bladder stones removed. What I find so odd is that she never hunched her back or seemed to be in the discomfort that she is in now with the last two times she had bladder stones. I am not sure if it’s because she is showing signs of Kidney Stones this time? Have you found out anything more with you Schnauzer?
Avatar n tn After a urine test revealed no UTI, but trace blood, I was sent for CT and my urine and blood sent to lab. The CT revealed no kidney stones. My urine had calcium oxade crystals (sp?) in it and my WBC count was up. The doctor assumed that I had passed a kidney stone and told me to take it easy. I have since returned home, and have not felt any relief. The pain has gotten worse. Now, when I bend down at the waist, cough, or take a wrong step, my legs go numb.
Avatar m tn Okay, I'm 38 and have had kidney stone issues off an on since 20, so this isn't my first rodeo, but I did have a rather odd situation I want to get feedback on. So, on Friday I had excruciating pain in my lower back (normal kidney area). My normal painkillers weren't doing the trick, so a couple hours at the hospital and a shot of morphine made me feel normal again. Saturday came and went and no pain.
1963554 tn?1325451090 He said that his right kidney is destroyed and that his left kidney has about 25% left. He has a tumor within his bladder and his urine cannot pass thru which goes into his kidney and damages it. When we had Shaggy checked out in May our vet said that it's UTI...because I mentioned to him that he'd pee and then go to other spots and nothing comes out. So he was given anti-biotics. This went on for several months.
999058 tn?1257567250 blood work came back normal as did the ultrasound, no kidney stones. fast forward to now, my periods are progressing to almost unbearable, i have random back pain mid left side of my back where my kidney's at. i learn i have an ovarian cyst when my fiance rushes me into the ER sick as a dog with a kidney infection. i had a ct scan. which is how they discovered i had an ovarian cyst and a kidney infection. blood work again is normal.
1916673 tn?1420236870 Higher than normal potassium is not very unusual in kidney disease, but it is important to discount other potential causes - including kidney or urinary tract stones. An ultra-sound and white blood cell (WBC) count will help identify if stones are a problem. Phosphorus is also too high. Dogs acquire phosphorus directly from food, and normally (in healthy dogs) any excess is excreted through the kidneys.
2361255 tn?1339611918 As far as Meds for kidney disease goes,Dogs with kidney failure will end up getting ulcers, throughout their digestive tract, and because of the ulcers, the vet will prescribe anti ulcer medications, as well as anti nausea meds. Dogs with kidney disease will also experience a rise in their phosphorus levels, so typically a phosphate binder is given. And when the dog is not drinking, and not staying hydrated enough, then it is time to start administering Sub-Q fluids.
Avatar f tn I know I've flushed out kidney stones. I've figured out that the cause of my kidney stones is high fructose corn syrup in some of my favorite foods like fig bars which I've given up. I would not be surprised if that had something to do with my gall stones.
Avatar n tn Postrenal causes for renal failure result from obstruction of the collecting system of the kidney, ureter, and bladder. The high back pressure generated can result in poor kidney function and ultimately lead to kidney failure. Causes include from BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy), ureteral obstruction by metestatic lymph nodes in some cases of cancer, stricture disease, obstruction secondary to stones, etc. These are problems that are usually urologic (taken care of by a urologist).

1444601 tn?1305305623 Ten years ago I was dx with a Medullary spoange kidney, I have passed 50 stones to date. I am 34. I'm currently have pain in my right kidney with no signs of stones in ureters or infection. My Dr requsted an IVP to dx the sponge kidney theory. Findings: Scout views reveal some tiny calcifications overlying the collecting structures of the right kidney. The left is more obscured by bowel. Contrast media is injected, 100cc of 300 are given and serial view of the abdomen obtained.

Avatar f tn My Doctor has tried pills for vertigo, blood pressure and sinus infection and nothing has worked. A little or no headache. Last month I had 2 large kidney stones in my only working kidney. This sent me into renal failure for about 2 weeks. After 2 operations this was corrected and I now have proper kidney function. The dizziness started about two weeks before my kidney problems and is still a problem.
773755 tn?1328123377 But gallstones and kidney stones are a bit more complicated, as they often indicate something wrong with those organ systems as well. There are also some medications that form stones as a side effect, though I think usually, again, in the kidneys.
Avatar m tn Men are more likely to get a UTI once past the age of 50. People with kidney stones, urinary tract abnormalities, weakened immune systems, spinal cord injuries, and diabetes are more likely to get UTIs, as are patients who have been catheterized to drain urine directly from the bladder. Therefore your disease state may be making you more susceptible. Again I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose, so I would have to refer you to your primary doctor or your urologist to have you probably diagnosed.
Avatar m tn I raised their doses back up to the more massive doses and added magnesium and B-6 to their program and no more kidney stones. I think they developed the kidney stones because they were not taking enough vitamin C." Why did Linus Pauling die from cancer if he took all that vitamin C? Linus Pauling, PhD, megadose vitamin C advocate, died in 1994 from prostate cancer. Mayo Clinic cancer researcher Charles G. Moertel, M.D.
Avatar f tn Often there's considerable pain from kidney stones, but apparently sometimes they can pass thru without causing much of a problem. I would ask your Dr. and/or a Urologist about this...
Avatar n tn After research, it seems that my systems are very similar to prostatis. I have had a kidney stone before and have suffered from a uti before. The tests have been going on for a while and finally the doctor has presribed me ciprofloxacin without finding out what exactly is wrong with me. I don't want to take the medication yet until i get a a proper diagnois, as i had to wait 5 weeks after taking the initial antibotics, as the results could be in-accurate.
Avatar f tn At that time I had a cat scan that showed 3 small kidney stones but nothing was happening with them. My doctor determined that the edema was caused by my blood pressure medication and changed the medicqtion. This last time my doctor thought it was caused by a sun burn. He is sending me to have a cat scan of my kidneys, bladder and urinary tract and a 24 hour urine analysis. Is it possible the fatigue, weight loss and out of control blood pressure are related to a kidney problem?
850587 tn?1238909514 If you don't have a fever, I would wonder about kidney stones; a person can have a large stone called a 'calculus' in the kidney that breaks into smaller stones, causing a series of painful passing episodes. If a stone blocks off the ureter there can be significant pain even in the absence of infection. Other organ systems may be involved as well; the bowel, the intestines... but the location you describe does point toward the kidneys.
Avatar f tn All of which haven't seemed to fully relieve the bacteria infection in my ureters because it is a seemingly resistant strain.-just my luck- I do not have a history of stones nor have I passed any stones through all of this. Between hospital visits and doctor visits, I've become completely exhausted from this whole ordeal. I'm currently waiting on an approval to see a urologist. My most recent hospital visit last week was the first time any form of treatment plan had been implemented.
