Common Questions and Answers about Can you have kidney stones and not know it

kidney-stones

Avatar m tn recently i have been getting pains in my left lower back and it travels to my groin this time on the right side and feels now like a dull ache in my right testicle. no fever or nausea with these conditions but a "warm" sensation when urinating, stream is weak and color is mildy yellow. Could this be a kidney stone stuck in my bladder or is there another cause.
Avatar f tn Congratulations on your pregnancy. Kidney stones are not uncommon and they can occur during pregnancy. It sounds like you are passing the stones (hard white balls when you urinate). Usually, your doctor will give you a strainer and have you strain all your urine. YOu then save the stones and they can be tested to determine what type of stones they are (for example if they are related to diet or not). IF you have not done this yet, you may want to ask your doctor about it.
Avatar f tn Sometimes they will have someone who can see you sooner. Have you called the office and expressed what you are going through? Certainly, if it is a stone, it can get lodged in the ureter and cause hydronephrosis. The protein could indicate a breakdown in the kidney it's self. I would encourage you to see if another dr. could see you sooner. Not that you could die over this, but it can become quite painful.
500419 tn?1220128343 Hey I was wondering Im 10 wks Pregnant and I have lower back pain REALLY BAD it feels as if i was in labor being i know how it feels i have 3 kids already What happends is all of a sudden i will have sharp stabbing pain and it will last about a min and if i have to pee it is very little or i can't. Avatar m tn If you had more than one stone, then yes, it's very possible that you could continue to have pain and discomfort until all the stones you have completely pass. If you only had one stone, slight discomfort after passing it is possible, but that discomfort should not last very long. 3 mm stones normally do not cause me any discomfort after they pass. It's usually the ones bigger than 3 mm that cause me what I call "aftershocks", or discomfort for a little while after I pass a stone.
Avatar n tn If you don't have anymore pain, i would just strain your urine for awhile and wait to pass the stone. If you have more pain, you can go to the ER and have a scan done. This will help confirm the diagnosis and rule out other problems.

540521 tn?1221703306 The stones seem to bother me the most when i am standing and being active, Can kidney stones lead to kidney Failure? How much worse can this get? I don't know what else to do , I am at a loss, any help would be Greatly Appreciated. Thank You..
Avatar m tn It's somehow good when you know you have them, but waiting for them to pass can take a toll. Hoping your doc apt gives you good info and maybe can find out why you produce them.
Avatar f tn I really recommend that you go now and take your children with you. If it is a kidney stone, a kidney infection or your gallbladder things may get worse. Try not to take any more prescription medication before you go because the med center or hospital will most likely give you something stronger for your pain. You want your system clean or they may give you nothing. Is there anyone at all that can go with you or watch your children? Please let us know what you find out.
Avatar f tn Sorry you have had to go through so much! I've never had a kidney stone but did have acute kidney failure and now have chronic kidney disease. My understanding is that it is mostly both the high and very low bps can cause this. Also, dehydration if you have stomach symptoms. I often test mildly high in calcium.
Avatar m tn I'm anxious to hear about your ESWL (ess-wall), so be sure and post back and let us know how it went. You think you may have a Struvite kidney-stone, why? Just curious how you arrived at that conclusion. Was it something your doctor said, that led you to that hypothesis? When you begin passing the fragments of the stone they're 'blasting', be sure and save some of them (so your doctor can turn them over to the Pathology lab and they can identify what the stone make-up is).
Avatar f tn Make sure you drink plenty of water, 2-3 litres per day is recommended, but your urologist may advice you drink more. Don't overdo it though, as too much water is no good for you and can make you ill. There is no way of telling how long it will take for a stone to come out on its one. Mine took well over 4 months. Most of it passed on its own, but a piece of it got stuck in the ureter and had to be surgically removed. Every time it moved I was very ill.
472139 tn?1211336163 your diet and fluid in take is huge, you need to try to catch the stone so your doc can see why you got it/ is it your first one? if yes you might be ok. if not they say if you have had more than one than they probably will come again if you dont know why you get them. the meds might be part of it cause they dehydrate you which makes you not break down the right things in your kidney.
895634 tn?1283992810 They will perform some tests to determine what type of stones you may have, how many and how large your kidney stones are. A KUB (kidney, ureter, bladder) x-ray is usually given to see the stone's location and estimate their size. Also you mentioned you had an MRI recently. If it was an MRI of the abdomen, the stones would have been seen in the MRI. If they are small and can pass then a pain killer to help you pass the stones is appropriate.
5900973 tn?1396067991 My Dr told me to drink cranberry juice that it helps (I hate it and just could not drink it) but if you can stomach it then it might help speed the stone out. I hope you pass it before baby comes cause they really are a pain. Good luck with everything!
Avatar m tn Hi, Lithotripsy is the most common management for kidney stones. The recovery time is usually short and after treatment, you may have blood in the urine and even abdominal pain or aching for several days. Oral pain medication and drinking lots of water will help relieve symptoms. It is important that you check with your doctor first for evaluation before removing the stent. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn That sounds serious and it can't be good of they are kidney stones idk how that would be possible to take care of considering I would go back to the er if you don't have a doctor

Avatar f tn I was nauseous and couldn't eat. Come to find out I have two kidney stones one that is in the process of passing and one that is still in my kidney.. I am 27 weeks ... Has anybody else had kidney stones during their pregnancy? I'm honestly so miserable and I can't eat and I'm worried about my baby . Any suggestions ?
Avatar n tn I know how you feel! And if it gets bad enough they can give you stronger than tylonel. Vicaden and percacet are perfectly fine.
Avatar f tn I have 3 stones in my right kidney 2mm 1.5mm and a 3 mm.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D enables calcium to be absorbed into the body. If you have a good healthy and well balanced diet and go out into the sunshine, you will not need extra Vitamin D supplementation. Your doctor or urologist should advise you on that. This is one vitamin (well apparently it is a hormone) that is stored in the body and too much can cause adverse health problems. .
Avatar f tn In my experience they don't tend to take kidney stones seriously and they kinda give you the brush off. But the pain can be excrutiating and it can lead to more severe problems. I hope all is well now since it has been over a month since the original post. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn Hi hun, i get kidney stones when im prego and when im not over the last year i have passed 60 of them and thats not a typo. My son was fine, just make sure you drink lots of water and watch for infection you will be fine. I completely understand what your going through!
5650943 tn?1374116408 I had kidney stones with my first, I was literally peeing blood. It was extremely painful and took forever to break apart cause I couldn't take any meds being allergic to most.
Avatar f tn Or are you just mentioning the fact that you have Sjogren's syndrome, and that you make kidney-stones as well as having it? Anyway, besides ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) to break up the stones, they can perform a cystoscopy or a ureteroscopy, and pull the stone out. They'll scope you through your urethra and up through your ureter into your kidney, to gain access to the stone, then pull it out.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I went into the ER, l was having horrible pain on my right side right under my rib. They did a cat scan and xray and told me that I have tw kidney stones one in each kidney. I still have no pain on my right side and am wondering if I ever will or if it will just disappear? Secondly the pain on my left side got worse over night, it has moved down a little and wrapped around to my back. The pain is bearable and then out of nowhere unbearable and worse in my back.
