Avatar n tn Hello, This pain can be related to the kidney stones. Kidney stones are of four types: calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone. Treatment modes include Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneoud nephrolithotomy. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
11610581 tn?1419818408 If they did a urinealysis and found that your urine was clear (your words) then they probably meant that you had no blood in your urine and therefore you did not have a kidney stone. Usually with a kidney stone, although many times you can't see it with your naked eye, there will be blood in your urine. That is probably why they didn't do a Cat Scan, as they felt there wasn't a kidney stone causing your pain and problem.
Avatar f tn MRI results show at least two 2.0mm stones in each kidney. I passed my second stone (left kidney) a couple of weeks ago, and ever since then, my right kidney has been giving me on-and-off pain. Should I be concerned about this chronic, low grade pain? I always wonder if it's sand passing, but I'm not sure now. The last 2 or 3 urine tests I've had done have all shown a low level of protein in the urine.
1619332 tn?1299021545 So after they made the pain go away and they gave me pain medication to take home and a follow up appointment with a Urologist to check out the remaining 3 kidney stones and to make sure I passed that one I was sent home. Well the Urologist seemed nice and he took another CT scan on my follow up appointment to make sure I passed my first kidney stone, which I did, and check out the other 3 in my right kidney. He told me that to just come in for check ups and that was it.

I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone. Treatment modes include Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Since ESWL was not successful, the other two treatment options can be considered. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Weturner, there IS a connection between "bipolar" and kidney stones. His 'bipolar' symptoms and kidney stones are very possibly caused by the same thing. It is called Hyperparathyroidism. Most people have never heard of PARAthyroid glands. But we all have four of them. Please have your husband's parathyroid checked out by the best expert you can find. I was put on medications for years for mental things such as bipolar, I was also getting kidney stones a lot.
Avatar f tn I don't have any problems with my kidneys as far as I know. I had kidney stones and a UTI about 12/13 yrs ago, but that was it. I did have toxeima 15 yrs ago. I have had my kidneys tested (ct scan, ultra sounds), all okay. Just wondering why the kidney pain since I started taking this. Thanks for any replies i get....
Avatar m tn Antioxidants reduce the amount of inflammation in your body, which helps the kidneys function properly. The potassium in cauliflower is known to prevent kidney stones. Kidney stones can lead to kidney infections and eventually chronic kidney disease. Eat cauliflower raw with a hummus dip or steam it with a squeeze of lemon. Cauliflower is also delicious smashed with low fat sour cream and fresh parsley.
Avatar f tn We don't know what happened with the treatment has he had many eswl surgeries over the years. Now his urologist is afraid to do the surgery and he currently has 5 stones in the left side kidney (including one 11mm). He has had constant nausea, dull pain and stabbing pain for weeks so finally went back into the urologist who had a CT and xray ordered.
452063 tn?1324078516 I have seen at least a dozen posts with kidney stones. There has to be some correlation between opiate use and kidney stones. My surgeon showed me mine on the CT scan and it's a white circle as big as a golfball. He feels it might be from chemicals but said that it's probably from my chemo. I keep thinking that he is gonna pull out a big white opiate that either says Endo or Watson on it lol. Just wondering if anyone else was told theirs was from chemicals?
Avatar f tn How unusual is it for the stones to be in this meaty part of my kidney and since they are still in my kidney aren’t they just going to continue to grow larger? Are these stones causing damage to my kidneys? They don’t seem to be causing any blockages based on the ultrasounds that have been done, but I still have had frequent flank pain and blood visible in my urine prior to the surgery. Is there any hope that I will be able to be stone free and prevent more stones?

Avatar f tn My 60 year old husband passed small uric acid type kidney stones in August (per lab analysis of stones), had a blood test that showed high uric acid and was put on Allopurinol 100mg (twice daily) about two weeks ago. He recently lost weight after having an angioplasty with stent in late July (blood work shows normal range for cholesterol- blood glucose elevated at 117, blood pressure is normal, pulse 50 to 60).
Avatar m tn i wanted to ask as to whether i should completely avoid spinach, cabbage ,coffee and tea???? do they cause stones?? what other speefic foods i should avoid?? Also my doctor had given me potassium citrate 1100 mg three times a day when i had stones...should i take this medicine further for another 2-3 months...or does it cause problems in the long run???
Avatar n tn She has had surgery once for removal of kidney stones. Since that surgery (approx. 2 years) she has been taking a supplement of potassium citrate in order to regulate her urine ph. Within the last several months we have been having other issues. She gets sick and throws up what appears to be bile. It is a foamy yellow looking fluid. My vet has offered me nothing except for trial and error cures. Blood has been drawn and shows no abnormalities.
Avatar m tn Has anyone here with kidney stones tried vitamin B6 and magnesium to prevent new stones from forming? I read a study that concluded that taking 50 mg of B6 daily with 300 mg of magnesium oxide (one of the least absorbable forms of magnesium) will prevent future kidney stones. I also read that potassium and B6 does the same. Perhaps the magnesium works because potassium is better absorbed if there is sufficient magnesium.
Avatar f tn however when I was in the hospital in June, because i was given too much cumiden and I passed out because my blood was way to thin, they took me off of potassium citrate and put me on potassium chloride. Now the dr the other day said I should take both. however, since I am doing this I have felt worse. taking both of them. seems like my legs (knees hurt more, even tho I have arthritis) can you get too much potassium?
18954 tn?1314301717 Dietary prevention is MOSTLY linked to increasing fluids, because the more urine you make, the more dilute the things like calcium and oxalate are in your urine and the less likely they are to form crystals which then form stones. Citrate and potassium are also good for prevention and can be found mostly in fruits. Lemonade is a way to both increase citrate and increase fluids.
Avatar n tn calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. Treatment modes include oral medicines, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Please discuss these treatment options with your urologist. Also take less calcium and oxalate rich foods and supplements like dairy products, colas, chocolate, peanuts, leafy vegetables, and tea. I hope it helps.
168348 tn?1379360675 magnesium for the prevention of calcium oxalate kidney stones. I cannot take Urocit K because of terrible GI side effects, so my Urologist suggested this to help disuade them from forming. My calcium levels are normal. I have a condition called MSK (Medullary Sponge Kidney) that predisposes me to producing calcium oxalate or calcium oxalate/phosphorous stones. I avoid all oxalate containing foods and don't take any extra calcium supplements or antacids containing calcium Thanks.
390645 tn?1233372037 Hi , take 10ml of Potassium and Magnesium Citrate Oral solution twice daily. This would help you to prevent stones in future along with the diet advised to you.
Avatar m tn The original stone was solid and looked like real stones; brown/beige, the new ones are redish/yelowish and made up of grains stuck together, they pass either as one stone or fragmented pieces. Have been doing regular kidney function and urine analysis tests; the thing that is worrying me is the existence of protein in the urine (30mg/dl after fasting/morning) for the past couple of months (was 100mg/dl one month prior to Cipro.), other than this all other aspects are within range.
Avatar n tn Since then, the pain has continued and my urologist cannot find any stones in my ureter through x-ray and IVP. He believes that the small stones in my kidney cannot be causing the pain and the stone in my ureter must be gone. He is now telling me to have my ovaries checked. I do not believe for one second that it is anything but a kidney stone. You ALL know the pain. It is the same as it has always been.
278016 tn?1220194704 I have been having multiple health problems for four years shortly after having mono, and kidney stones which were a year and a half apart. Focusing on the kidneys they are constantly sore. When I eat certain foods, especially salty foods, i urinate even more frequently, and leak urine. I have been to a urologist and my bladder is perfectly healthy.
Avatar m tn Hello, i am a 20 year old student and recently found that i have two kidney stones. I believe they have both moved from my kidney to my bladder and was wondering how long it takes to pass them through my urine once they are already in my bladder. These stones are 1mm and 2mm and also i was wondering to what extent the pain is going to be when i pass them?
