Avatar f tn Hi ladies have any of yous experienced the oh-so-lovely pain of kidney stones? Also once it passed how long did kidney pain last? The hospital I attended to didn't help nor my doctor was any help! Thanks!
1619332 tn?1299021545 So after they made the pain go away and they gave me pain medication to take home and a follow up appointment with a Urologist to check out the remaining 3 kidney stones and to make sure I passed that one I was sent home. Well the Urologist seemed nice and he took another CT scan on my follow up appointment to make sure I passed my first kidney stone, which I did, and check out the other 3 in my right kidney. He told me that to just come in for check ups and that was it.

Avatar n tn Sometimes it does hurt in the right side of my abdomen and in the middle of my back, too. I'm 99% sure it's my kidney. I thought it might be a kidney infection of stone, but I have no pain or increased frequency urinating. In fact, nothing has changed about my urinating habits at all. Could it still be a stone or infection? The pain is constant and a sort of hot pain with sharp twinges every now and then.
Avatar f tn as long as you have a normal kidney on the other side. Certainly the pain your having could be from ureteral stones, and ureteroscopy is preferred in lower ureteral stones in child-bearing age women because lithotripsy may bruise the ovaries if used for lower ureteral stones. Infection is unlikely as infection and an obstructing stone usually leads to a high fever and is an emergency.
895634 tn?1283992810 Anybody aware of an association between treatment and kidney stones? I've had renal colic before, but this is by far the most painful bout. Hepatologist gave green light for Vicodin or Percocet, which are helping. Just wondering if there is a connection between stones and hep c treatment.
Avatar f tn I live with kidney stones and have been for years. Does anyone know what is good to eat to help prevent stones? All I can find online are foods that I can't eat.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones almost 3 years ago but I did not get them removed as my Dr told me they could not kill me or cause any life threatening diseases, but recentley I have noticed a little bit of stomach discomfort, I would like to say pain but it doesnt hurt , it kind of feels like something is there like gas, and my stomach gurgles a little bit and once in a while I will feel a little bit of a slight pinching pain in different spots over my belly , it feels like its through the b
Avatar n tn Hi, Are there other symptoms present? A kidney stone is a solid mass made up of tiny crystals which may present as abdominal pain, blood in the urine, chills, excess urination at night, fever, flank pain or back pain, painful urination or urinary frequency/urgency. Abdominal CT scan, xrays or ultrasound of the kidneys will confirm the diagnosis of kidney stones. Menstruation problems are hormone and stress related.
Avatar f tn I have two kidney stones in one kidney and two stones in the other. They are two big to pass (6 and 7 mm) so the doctor is putting me on a medication for the next three months in the hopes of dissolving them. He did say they are non-dissolvable, so I am confused. I have blood in my urine, which triggered the ultrasounds of my kidneys and bladder. I don't understand why he didn't give me the option of a lithotrypsy. I am trying to get pregnant, so I don't know if that was a reason.
Avatar n tn I had a large kidney stone which my doctor performed eswl on in october the stone fragments got stuck in the ureter, a month later he performed eswl again and then a ureteroscopy and placed a stent. The day of the surgery some pieces of the stones passed but there is alot of blood and now on the third day no stone pieces are passing. He kept me in the hospital for two days due to fever, now he wants me to go for an xray on friday and then go to see him on monday.
Avatar f tn I had an ultrasound, catscan and x-ray done. Also blood test and urine tests. The doctors say it may be kidney stones that they can't see, or it may be a stone that passed which caused swelling of the kidney and the ureter. Someone told me that the swelling may be caused by "parasites" ... Is this true? Please help.
Avatar f tn Additional diagnostic tests such as urine culture and sensitivity test may help. If the pain, fever and difficult urination persist, it is best that you check with your doctor for proper evaluation. Imaging studies such as ultrasound may also be done. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Since then Ive had steadily increasing EXTREME fatigue and pain (though not as strong of pain as friday), nausea, low fever and very severe "brain fog"... While I've had abdominal pain and slowly increasing fatigue for the last two years, it's never been this bad, and the usual suspects for that kind of thing didn't check out when I saw my GP. The doctor at the ER said it could be a kidney infection, but it didnt look like there was enough blood for it...
Avatar n tn You will need to take care to restrict certain foods in your diet, especially vitamin C, as it has been reported to aggravate signs and symptoms of both kidney stones and interstitial cystitis.
Avatar n tn UTIs, however, can cause severe abdominal pain of a cramping sort and can be associated with fever, chills, nausea, and vomiting. As this appears to be an intermittent, recurrent problem, it will need to be investigated further to rule out any serious causes. You can have a blood test and a urinalysis done as these will provide an idea as to the type of reaction the body had and the possible cause. If the cause is infectious, it can be treated with antibiotics.
Avatar n tn I had a confirmed UTI in mid September. 5 days ago (Sat), I began symptoms again---extreme pain while urinating & difficulty emptying my bladder. Next day (Sun), I go to Urgent Care who takes a urine sample & says I have a UTI, gives me Cipro 500mb BID & sends me home. By Mon morning, the burning is unbearable & I see my gynecologist nurse practitioner. She swabs my vagina & takes another urine sample.
Avatar f tn My kids have given me a run this week!!!! Earlier in the week, my youngest son, 11 was up visiting my brother at his summer house, a little over an hour away. He called me after 10 at night and was crying saying he wanted to come home that he wasn't feeling good. I couldn't convince him to stay. He gets anxious being away from me and tends to do this a lot with sleepovers. He really wants to have sleepovers but he's just not able. But when he came home, he wound up pretty sick ...
Avatar m tn As far as I know, these are the only treatments - http://www.mayoclinic.org/kidney-stones/treatment.htm "Watchful waiting About 85 percent of the time, kidney stones are small enough to pass during urination. This occurs usually within 72 hours of the start of symptoms. The best treatment for these small stones is to drink plenty of water (as much as 2 to 3 quarts per day), stay physically active and wait to pass the stone.
Avatar n tn Bladder infection may result in symptoms of urination, frequency urgency etc with fever and lower abdominal pain. Kidney infection may result in symptoms of pain in the loins, fever, and urinary symptoms. If you think that you may have one, please consult your doctor immediately. this is important to ensure that it does not spread and decrease the damage. You would need a urine examination and an xray of your lower abdomen before any other investigations are carried out.
Avatar n tn Hi, Lower back pain on one side that increases on resuming activity after one has been lying down for a while and pain radiating down one lower limb, mainly the inner side of the thigh and the back of the knee has been associated with kidney stones or ureteral stones. Bladder infection is usually characterized by increased frequency of urination, pain or burning sensation during urination, lower abdominal pain of a dull. cramping type, and some amount of back pain, and blood in the urine.
Avatar f tn The pain was more in my back than my side, I developed nausea and hot sweats (no fever). There was still blood in my urine but no signs of an infection. My PCP felt it was kidney stones and prescribed me flomax to help pass it. Days later no change. They did a CT scan, but it showed no stones. I still have blood in my urine so they suggested I see a Urologist. Feeling frustrated I have not made an appointment yet.
1712422 tn?1443341101 The worst symptom for me was it felt like a knife being twisted back n forth in my back!! Terrible pain!!! I also felt like I had to have a bowel movement, but never could go! I was very nauseous too!! :-( felt cold n clamey, like flu-ish..

Avatar n tn It does not get rid of the kidney stone. The kidney stone will cause you problems with urinary infections as it moves, or travels down. This is because it scratches as it moves and then when bacteria enters the wounds, infection sets in. You will know when the stone is moving because you will feel discomfort or pain in one or the two kidneys (depends where the stone is). You may also experience what is called renal colic which is wind like pain in your belly.
1301089 tn?1290670171 If your UA was clear you probably don't have a stone. I have chronic kidney stones and can attest to the fact that the pain is acute and excruciating. Believe me, if you have a moving stone you won't wonder if you have one. The pain is so acute it will send you to ER. It is worse than childbirth....that's been true for every person afflicted with kidney stones that I know. When I had my last stone which was "Hummer" sized I wouldn't even allow the ER physician to touch my flank.
Avatar f tn Have you been properly assessed along this line? Was a scan done to establish the presence of these stones? Kidney stones may be asymptomatic depending on their size and the presence of underlying disease conditions like structural anomalies involving the urinary tract. They may present as a dull vague pain over the flank. They may present as a benign back pain. In some patients, the back may be slightly tender when the physician gently hits the area with closed fists.
Avatar n tn Other people have commented about this in CT. and even went in for ultrasound to determine if kidney stones were present.
