Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Tbd I eat veggies and fruits. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and need to lose some weight. My doctor says I don't get enough protein in my diet to lose weight. I'm not a big fan of beans. What is a good source of protein for my case?
20797525 tn?1510602613 I've been trying to lose weight for a long time. It seems the older I get the heavier. My most recent A1C was 5.4 ( which is higher than I'd like.) I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 11 years old. I've never been good at remembering to take my meds. I was prescribed Metformin 50mg to start. Now as an 11-year-old child I expected to feel better instantly. I was angry when that didn't happen and I saw no immediate results. I stopped taking the medication out of sheer anger.
Avatar n tn It's very normal to lose weight first then gain it later. With my daughter I lost 20 pounds because I was sick all the time. With my son this time I lost 10 pds with him but I wasn't sick I just lost it. That is one of the reasons I checked to see if I was pregnant.
Avatar f tn You can lose fat by eating a healthy diet, but it works best if you exercise along with it. You really need, both, cardio and strength training in order to lose weight. Strength training helps build muscle and muscle burns more fat.
Avatar f tn Nathan was started on a diet for Seizure control...Ketogenic Diet. He had his last grand mal seizure the 3 day on the diet. Tbd Hi, depending how long you have had diabetes, and your overall condition, losing weight and changing your diet to a strict low carb diet / keto diet, could possibly put your diabetes into remission or at worst make it very much easier to manage. The principle of low carb diet is restricting carbs, particularly all grains, sugars, starchy veges and sweet fruits, and eating a diet that focusses more on protein, low carb plant foods (veges and non-sweet fruits), some nuts, and healthy fats.
Avatar n tn I have just read a book on fasting and using a ketogenic diet for weight loss and diabetes reversal. I am trying it now and am finding it very easy to implement. There are various fasts you can do. I am sure you can find one or two ways to work for you. You should get this book! I have tried all of the diets in my 63 yrs of life and none have given lasting results. I feel like this way is going to be much easier to do than those I have tried in the past.
Avatar f tn 2 in the Annals of Internal Medicine shows the low carb high fat diet excels for weight loss and heart health. The low fat diet saw more lean muscle lost than body fat. Good tip: avoid low fat everything. :) "People who avoid carbohydrates and eat more fat, even saturated fat, lose more body fat and have fewer cardiovascular risks than people who follow the low-fat diet that health authorities have favored for decades, a major new study shows.
Avatar n tn There is recent research about ketogenic diet and nutritional ketosis being beneficial for management of heart failure and weight loss. You may want to look further into this. Some cardiologists are beginning to support this approach, although some also follow the opposite approach of very low fat, low salt, etc....
6990909 tn?1435275816 Has anybody tried a ketogenic diet for health issues? I'm just trying to find holistic ways to deal with RA. I have tried focusing on foods with anti-inflammatory properties but am continuing the search. Thanks for your input!

Avatar f tn I’ve also been on a ketogenic diet since July and and this week I’ve broken my diet by snacking on a few popsicles and some crackers. I’m worried this weight is going to stick around and I’m very concerned. Help! Ps. Sorry if this is TMI, but I haven’t really pooped much this week. I assumed it was because I haven’t really been eating, but could it be a contributing factor?
Avatar f tn the keto diet is a great way to lose weight, but it will leave your body lacking in nutrients. I wouldn't try making a "keto cookie" with coconut flour, but just keep to your diet and give yourself a reward on the weekends. I found some great treats at Trader Joes and Sprouts that are within the diets guidelines that are great for everyday (dark chocolates, protein bread that has almost no carbs, keto friendly pizza!).
Avatar n tn Diet change (such as ketogenic diet, low GI diet, or paleo diet) and exercise is recommended to improve symptoms of PCOS.
Avatar m tn So far the ONLY thing that has worked for me is a ketogenic diet. I eat real foods, a good source of protein and fat and I only get my carbs from vegetables and very limited fruits (berries). I have tried counting calories, weight watchers and all sorts of advertised diets/shakes/programs and nothing worked for me.
Avatar m tn Irrespective, assuming type 2 diabetes, the treatment will be losing weight if overweight, cutting carbs (particularly sugar, grains, starches - look into low carb / ketogenic diet), exercise, and medications if the previous lifestyle approaches are not sufficient. You can do this.
Avatar f tn Hello. I go through sort of the same struggle you do. I lost a ton of weight following the "Low GI" diet. Its Low Glycemic Index. The diet itself shouldn't really be called a diet because its really just all of the foods you should be eating anyway...but who am I to say that? The Low GI diet is great for people trying to stay away from getting Diabetes, and for people who have Diabetes. Google the diet to pull up all the foods.
Avatar f tn I was concerned with my weight gain while pregnant because I had severe morning sickness the whole time, and was unable to gain weight. My midwife helped me to manage my diet so that I felt more confident.
