Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.

Weight training is the best was to change the way the body metabolites food and burns fat. Powerlifters are not the same animal. There goal is to lift as much as possible. Thus they work the body in a completely different way. They welcome water weight as it aids in strength. As far as how much carbs one needs on a diet. It all depends on how active an individual is.

Avatar m tn Irrespective, assuming type 2 diabetes, the treatment will be losing weight if overweight, cutting carbs (particularly sugar, grains, starches - look into low carb / ketogenic diet), exercise, and medications if the previous lifestyle approaches are not sufficient. You can do this.
Tbd Hi, depending how long you have had diabetes, and your overall condition, losing weight and changing your diet to a strict low carb diet / keto diet, could possibly put your diabetes into remission or at worst make it very much easier to manage. The principle of low carb diet is restricting carbs, particularly all grains, sugars, starchy veges and sweet fruits, and eating a diet that focusses more on protein, low carb plant foods (veges and non-sweet fruits), some nuts, and healthy fats.

I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? I am taking Protriptilyne (very powerful antidepressant) Lamictal 200Mgs a day, Lithium 900Mgs a day, and Klonopin 2Mgs a day. I am 40 years old and in the best physical shape of my life. I cut all carbohydrates from my diet 6 months ago and returned to bodybuilding. I am 5' 9" have a 30 inch waist and weight 180Lbs with only a 9% body fat index.
Avatar n tn My child has had a g-tube for 6 years because of the ketogenic diet in which she is coming off now, she eats everything, no problem with swallowing, she drinks a whole can of pop at times but how do I get her to drink her whole fluid alotment of 1500ml a day? Avatar n tn There is recent research about ketogenic diet and nutritional ketosis being beneficial for management of heart failure and weight loss. You may want to look further into this. Some cardiologists are beginning to support this approach, although some also follow the opposite approach of very low fat, low salt, etc....
Avatar m tn So far the ONLY thing that has worked for me is a ketogenic diet. I eat real foods, a good source of protein and fat and I only get my carbs from vegetables and very limited fruits (berries). I have tried counting calories, weight watchers and all sorts of advertised diets/shakes/programs and nothing worked for me.
