Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain when you chew

jaw-pain

Avatar n tn Hello, For the part 2 weeks, I have been experiening pain when I open my mouth wide on the right side. The pain is right in front of my ear (upper jaw area). The pain is not there when I talk, chew, laugh..etc. Only when I open wide like to brush my teeth, or bite down on an apple...etc. I don't hear any popping, clicking when I chew, talk o laugh. I am really worried to if I am developing an issue with my TMJ joint? Or something else all together.
Avatar n tn I dont feel any pain until i open my jaw more than half way. My ear feels like theres a lot of fluid in it. I was thinking it might be an ear infection. But why would my jaw really hurt to open more than half way? It doesnt hurt when I chew either. Does anyone know what I might have?
1755089 tn?1376053555 Have you had chairi surgery yet? I had some of the same problems. That is why when I went to one doctor before being diaganois with Chair they told me I had TMJ because my jaw hurt, facial pain, and a hard time swallowing. When explained about this I was told. Look at the big picture of your head, neck. All the muscle etc all have to work together and if one muscle is stuggling you will experiece pain in different area's of your head.
5555569 tn?1369800168 Last Morning , when i waked up , suddenly got a jaw pain, when iam trying to chew pain comes a lot...it may be ear infection???
Avatar f tn I find my jaw stiffens and the pain also effects my ear but for me it is being caused by my recent Lyme dx and it's stress. I didn't have it until about 3-5 days after dx. I use a bite splint when needed. My Daughter is a dentist and recommends the less expensive ones you can buy in your local drug store much less of a cost as the custom made ones and just as effective.
Avatar f tn Yes, I've had pain in and around the jaw since I've had this disease. My jaw cracks and pops when I chew or clench. Sometimes there's severe pain that runs up and down the edge of my lower jaw. Sometimes this is associated with extreme soreness around the tongue and gums.
Avatar m tn the left side of my neck hurts toward the side (main muscle/tendon going down from the jaw to the shoulder, and under my jaw, from what I can tell is inside my jaw. there are ridges on my jaw towards my chin that hurt, and also the space in between my jaw hurts. Don't know if it is glandular or tmj related. odd stuff. Cannot see my doc until next Thursday. anything that I can do?
Avatar n tn 7 days ago I felt a small amount of pain in my right jaw. There had been no physical injury, and I was not under any stress. I had been fighting a cold, and had some coughing / sneezing fits in the previous week. 5 days ago I awoke with difficulty closing my jaw. For that and the next day at mealtime after my jaw "warmed up" I was able to chew more-or-less normally. Now, for the last 3 days I am not able to close my jaw on the right side, and I am not able to chew normally.
Avatar f tn My jaw cracks more then usual when chewing but I think its the weather changing not due to being pregnant.
Avatar f tn •Pain or tenderness in your face, jaw joint area, neck and shoulders, and in or around the ear when you chew, speak, or open your mouth wide •Problems when you try to open your mouth wide •Jaws that get "stuck" or "lock" in the open- or closed-mouth position •Clicking, popping, or grating sounds in the jaw joint when you open or close your mouth or chew. This may or may not be painful.
Avatar n tn I have frequent jaw pain, jaw numness and jaw that crack when I chew on something at some point. I saw a dentist lately and he told me that everithing is normal with my teeth an jaw on the x-ray. I also have pain in my ears due to that! My best guess whould be that it is a Chiari symptome.
1496683 tn?1289260362 Just because you don't have clicking noices when you bite or chew doesn't mean you don't have TMJ. There are MANY symptoms of TMJ; one doesn't have to have ALL of them. In your earlier post you didn't mention your wisdom teeth; that could be a possibility too.
Avatar m tn A week has gone by from all four impacted wisdom teeth were surgically removed. My jaw on the right side feels like it is locked. I can only open my jaw 1 inch. When I try to open it farther I get excruciating pain and it won't open. Left side is fine. I was very swollen the first three days after surgery. What should I do?
Avatar m tn Hello~Yes, they definitely could all be connected. It sounds to me like you have TMJ syndrome. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw. TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. The exact cause of a person's TMJ disorder is often difficult to determine.
Avatar m tn You may experience muscle spasms from TMJ syndrome. You may feel pain every time you talk, chew, or yawn. Pain usually appears in the joint itself, in front of the ear, but it may move elsewhere in the skull, face, or jaw. TMJ syndrome may cause ear pain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and hearing loss. Sometimes people mistake TMJ pain for an ear problem or sinus problem, such as an infection, when the ear or sinus' is not the problem at all.
Avatar m tn Help! I've had this popping sound in my ear for a month! Here are the details: Ear Wax: No (I used to a little bit ago, but it fell out.) Ear Infection: No Ear Blockage: No History Of Sinus Issues: None Pain: Moderate Sensitivity: Strong Annoying: YES! Story: The other month, I was having issues with my ear, like a sense of fullness. I had a doctors appointment and he proscribed these ear drops and an ear spray bottle. I went back a month later and he said I was all clear.
5875644 tn?1375886365 About a week ago I developed a slight tooth ache on the lower left. It is a tooth that is broken, but since I had root canal done on it several years ago, there's no nerve in it. Then, a few days later I started to develop an ear ache in the same area. So now it hurts from my left ear down into my left jaw as well as a slight feeling of pressure above my left eye. I also can feel like post-nasal drip when it does hurt.
Avatar f tn Your descriptions suggest occlusal interference was introduced by new restorations. If your dentist can not solve your problem, you may need to see an occlusionist or prosthodontist.
Avatar n tn For the past 3 days i have had pain in both my lower legs that feels like someone has hit me in the shins. My jaw is also hurting when i chew. Is this some kind of bone defeciency?
Avatar f tn Elimination of occlusal interference to achieve maximal comfort is feasible as long as the dentist can identify the occlusal interference. If you clench your jaw, you feel soreness of crowned tooth, occlusal interference is generally present. Further challenging test is, you place a cootton roll between crowned tooth and opposing tooth, and clench, if you feel pain or soreness, occlusal interference is present.Detection of occlusal interference requires skillful technique.
Avatar f tn There are many cases where individuals that suffering from sinus congestion also experience pressure in the ear, with earaches and even jaw pain. The earaches you are having may be an infection in the ear due to blocked sinuses. Other causes of aw pain can be due to infection of salivary gland like parotitis, infected foci, osteoporosis related jaw disarticulation or fracture.
Avatar n tn I have pain in my teeth, mostly upper right when I chew food or put my teeth together. It feels like I am chewing on aluminum fool. I also have pain in my jaw that feels burning. I have had an MVD that failed because my doctor said I have trigeminal neuralgia. Which now I am not so sure I have. Can you recommend anything that I should do now?
7934902 tn?1395538850 s receptionist that you need to see your doctor immediately. You said it hurts when you chew and even if you touch your back molars and that your jaw hurts. Have you been to see a dentist lately by any chance? You also said you have sinus pain and extreme pain in your inner right ear. Don't wait. This does sound concerning. I am of the opinion that you need to have urgent medical attention and the sooner the better. You said you have no idea what to do.
Avatar m tn I never posted on a forum before (just to let you know in advance). I am 23 years old and as I sit here doing the two things that cause me so much pain (drinking and chewing tobacco) I just can't seem to figure out how to let them go. I have been drinking everyday of my life for the past 8 years and I have been chewing tobacco everyday for the past 9 years. Now I have heard and know that the combo of the two raise your risk for cancer by alot.
