Avatar f tn Yes, you CAN turn this around......Her Iams food was not much better, but the Blue is Excellent! If she tolerates it well, then continue to use it.....I personally would try the Blue Wilderness blend instead because it is grain free..... She MUST get some moisture in her diet! Blue CANNED foods are excellent and she needs to eat canned at least 1 meal a day....Both meals would be better for awhile....All dogs need added moisture in their diets & especially skin disease dogs!
Avatar f tn I got this when I was on vacation in Maui and I thought it was just a bug bite because it was itchy. When I came home I started to get these bumps on the top and inside of my thighs. They have been so itchy that it keeps me up at night and I can't sleep. First they look like little red bumps, almost like pimples or bug bites, then it develops into a red splotchy rash. Then it bruises, I guess from me itching so much.

Avatar n tn It's kindda rare but it does happen. OCD in dogs is a bit more comon I believe. Hopefully, your cat has a skin condition which can easily be treated. OCD is much more treaky. One of the magazines I get on my email has this article which I hope you'll find interesting in case the vet tells you she has absolutely no skin conditions but her condition is behavioral. Here is the article.

2186126 tn?1384961026 My dog started losing fur and it doesn't grow back, limping, itchy skin, lesions and licking constantly. She can't get up the stairs in our house anymore and one morning, there was a huge puddle on our rug and vomit in the dining room. I am not testing her for Cushings because in my heart, I know that's what it is. She has most of the symptoms and talking about the tests and meds, it is expensive and there are no guarantees. The side effects from the meds can be nasty as you said.
Avatar f tn Occasionally endocrine problems can cause oily itchy skin too. So do check that. But a blood panel should spot any imbalances. You can try bathing her skin with a 50-50 mix of apple cider vinegar to boiled cooled water. You can also try green tea! Or make a mix of the two. But test it first on a small area of skin, wait 48 hours before trying it on a larger area -just to see if it suits her. It might or might not help.
Avatar f tn com/products/dogs/dry_food/sierra_mountain_canine_formula/ How long does it take for a dog food to completely be in a dogs system? or i guess how long will it take for the food with grain in it to get out of his system. The hot spot spray is suppose to dry them out? Its really oily & says on the bottle for itchy dry skin... He seems to be doing a little better with it too.

Avatar n tn I recommend starting by taking your dog to your veterinarian for assessment of the itch and medication recommendations. The most common reasons for itchy skin in dogs include skin infections, microscopic skin parasites such as scabies mites, food allergy, or pollen/dust allergies. Since scabies mites are difficult to find, I trial treat dogs for scabies with Revolution every 2 weeks for 3 treatments.
Avatar f tn I recommend taking your dog to your veterinarian for examination and treatment. The most common reasons for itchy skin in dogs include skin infections, microscopic skin parasites such as fleas, scabies or demodex mites, food allergy, or pollen/dust allergies. Dogs with fleas or allergies commonly scratch and traumatize themselves, creating secondary bacterial skin infections/rash and hotspots that make the itch worse.

Avatar f tn As for the skin, I have always used probiotics in my dogs for many reasons. They certainly have no side affects, and could help. I never had any gauge on the amount, but I would give my 50 pounder 25 billion to 50 billion bacteria count a day if there was an issue, and much lower maintenance doses off and on. Sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. Me and my wife use it regularly on a maintenance basis.
Avatar f tn Hello, Itchy skin without rash can be due to dry skin, neurodermatitis, dermatitis, lice, scabies and hives, internal diseases like liver and kidney disorders, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia, irritation and allergic reactions to chemicals, wool, soaps, cosmetics and certain foods can cause itchy skin. You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used.
850420 tn?1276029613 Skin disease in dogs is never simple. The goal required for truly successful (and rational) treatment is to get a diagnosis. Allergy is a broad category which includes several subtypes, each of which behaves and responds differently. The word allergy, therefore is not a diagnosis. Expect the workup for recurrent or non-resolving skin disease to require repeat visits and a series of tests and trials over time to sort out. At this point the dog has been seen once and treated once.
Avatar n tn All clothes, bedding, and towels used by the infested person during the 3 days before treatment should be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer. A second treatment of the body with the same cream or lotion may be necessary. ' You could read more about this at the following links - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scabies and http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dpd/parasites/scabies/factsht_scabies.htm Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts. Avatar f tn I breed toy poodles. I have three pups right now that arec10weeks and within the last 3 weeks I'm noticing more scratching in all three pups and hairless on their necks from scratching. No fleas. Vet has given them one dose of advantage once a week, their second treatment will be this monday. He thought MAYBE it could be walking dandruff but he says may not be as there's no dander full or flakey skin at all.
Avatar n tn I have similar sounding problem. Very itchy and dry looking skin round the eye area, including the bridge of my nose. One eye is worse than the other. I have tried vaseline, aloe vera gel, even steroid cream which the doc prescribed after diagnosing blepharitis. I don't think it's blepharitis as a lot of the symptoms don't match, eg I don't have crusty or sticky eyes in the morning any more than is normal. Have trawled the net and can't find anything other than an allergic problem.
Avatar n tn The PBC itching is thought to be due to the retained bile salts deposited in the skin. The bile salts have an irritant effect on the skin which can be mild to severe. Almost all those diagnosed with PBC will eventually experience the PBC itching. The most common itching spots are the ears, palms of hands and soles of the feet. Some experience only occasional itching, while others the itching is so severe that it affects their daily life.
1380814 tn?1285969186 This topical parasiticide is effective in treating a number of different parasitic infestations in dogs and cats. For dogs with scabies, the treatment is applied topically, then repeated 2-4 weeks later. All dogs that have come into contact with an affected animal need to be treated as well. A veterinarian should be consulted about the most appropriate treatment plan. People with suspicious lesions should consult a medical dermatologist for evaluation and treatment.
Avatar n tn water flush and then monistat cream as I read somewhere that it could be because of too much candida yeast in my system - it didn't work. In dogs - we use a 1% hibitane and water solution to clean out flared ears before meds - I got so desperate I tried that too. That did not work either. My mother has got the same problem - so I am thinking it is hereditary.
1032970 tn?1252476523 This occurs when a pet self inflicts trauma to the skin via licking, rubbing, scratching or biting. They do this in response to an itchy or painful area. I often tell my clients that they occur because there is moisture trapped at the level of the skin and the hair follicles. When a pet scratches or chews at that area, the skin is broken and the bacteria that naturally reside on the skin now have a moist, dark area to replicate and the hot spot develops.
Avatar n tn Xerotic dermatitis may present with itchiness brought about by skin dryness which may be secondary to a skin irritation. Skin irritation in this case may be due to constant exposure with irritants like lotions ,detergents and certain chemicals. Have you been handling any chemicals or substances lately? Do you have any known allergies?

679466 tn?1247009654 Redness, skin irritation and itching are very common symptoms of allergies in dogs. Since the symptoms come and go and improve with the cortisone cream, she most likely has allergies to environmental factors such as pollen, grass, and dust.
