ammonia

190885 tn?1333029491 The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis. Take enough lactulose to have 3-4 bowel movements per day and your ammonia level will drop and you will feel better. Normal is 15-60 mcg/dL. It usually that a day or a couple of days for the ammonia levels to drop. I am not sure of your health status.
Avatar f tn Same thing goes for humans. In the case of liver failure, I imagine there is a lack of bile available to aid in digestion; hence the nausea and vomiting. Has your vet prescribed a specific nausea medication to help keep your dog more comfortable? The cheapest one available is reglan (metoclopromadine) and it works by increasing peristalsis to move food and digestive enzymes through the tract faster. If the dog can't keep it down long enough to do any good, you can inject it at home.
Avatar m tn So when blood/blood-stained urine is seen, it's hard to tell where it is from. Pancreatitis, liver problems, and kidney problems, bladder tumours, stones, crystals etc, as well as a very bad UTI could all cause blood-stained urine too. How is her temperature? Does she have a high white blood cell count? She may need to be hospitalised while the vet runs tests. It may be better than taking her back and forth when she feels so bad. Also she may need IV fluids and/or antibiotics etc.
Avatar m tn most importantly, one for Hepatic Ensepholopathy) a condition which causes ammonia from the liver to go to the brain. The med eliminates the ammonia. There is a special blood test for this too. I'm convinced she does not have cancer & this was her problem all along. Unfortunately the 3 reg vets did not check for this, nor ever mention it (ASK THEM... I wish I had known to).. The Internist did right away!

Avatar n tn I can see from some of the above posts above that others have experienced the same, except my dog is trembling and wants to lie practically on top of me panting directly in to my face making it impossible to sleep. We have a fan blowing all night with the windows open, i've felt her inner ears and her body temperature is normal but she pants non stop. I know trembling would usually be a sign that she is in pain, however as soon as we get up for work, all this behaviour stops immediately.
Avatar n tn I am now going on missing another period. This is crazy that this happens to so many women and there is no explanation except for stress.
Avatar f tn Once we rebuilt the house, I purchased a 1 year old from a kennel. We have a dog door that she can go in and out but she comes inside to pee. She is really good about doing her pooh outside but she seriously has come in from outside to pee. What do I do? She was said to be trained to a piddle pad - but she isn't. I know the problem is that she has gone in her living space for a year but there has to be help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
1969477 tn?1327552019 I know that bleach and ammonia create a deadly combination, but I don't know if the amount of ammonia in dog urine is concentrated enough to be hazardous. However, if it's indoors, not well ventilated even just the solution itself could be harmful. I would suggest asking the manager to look into a new form of cleaning- due to all the illnesses it would be beneficial to have a bunch of healthy staff over sick staff and it is a work safety hazard- so they can't brush it off.
Avatar f tn There maybe some light at the end of the tunnel. At Monash University here in Melbourne, Australia there is a trial using Botox in the sinus to reduce the inflammation which in turn helps to reduce sinusitis. Here are a couple of links on it...http://www.medicalobserver.com.au/news/botox-trial-for-treatment-of-allergic-rhinitis-and-asthma and http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/1699807/Botox-could-help-fight-hay-fever-study. Fingers crossed everyone!!!
Avatar n tn Hey there, found this message board today after noticing the phantom smoke smell for the past week. The thing I notice I have in common with some of you is that I recently had a bad cold I caught while travelling. The talk of possibly being a symptom of neurological problems and brain tumors is worrisome since this coincided with me discontinuing a prescription of Lithium that was making me break out in acne. Anyone know if the two could be connected some how?
137025 tn?1217768341 SVR is sustained viral response...it is when there is no virus found in your blood after stopping meds and 6 months have passed- You are then cured and have attained SVR! Cured! Good Luck!
Avatar n tn What I have noticed, and what I have yet to read in my research is that WHEN ANY OTHER SMELL IS PRESENT, I CAN SMELL MY WEIRD SMELL IN PLACE OF IT. So, if a strong smell is present, I smell my smell stronger. It appears the smell comes and goes, but it actually gets triggered by other smells. I have spoken to my ENT and she hasn't got a clue. I wonder if there is some kind of study being done on this phenomenon?
1916673 tn?1420236870 High T4 levels are rare and it usually means there is a tumor in the thyroid gland, when it is found in a blood result. Dogs under a year old sometimes have a slightly elevated T4, but this ordinarily balances out as the dog matures. TOTAL BILIRUBIN (0.0 - 0.4 mg/dL) Red blood cells only live for about three months in the blood, which is why they are constantly replaced. Bilirubin is the residue of hemoglobin, which is left after the red blood cells die or are destroyed.
400358 tn?1320238043 She doesn't go every time she comes in and there isn't any blood in her urine either. Any advice would be great. I also have another dog of the same breed and we got him at 4 months and he was house broken by 6 months.
4043517 tn?1374010173 Today after progress I lost my balance, grabbed the rail on the front porch to steady myself but kept falling. Went backwards, hit my head on a brick, broke at least one toe, soaked in Epsom salts, bloody and foot swollen, butt and side throbbing, goose egg on my elbow. Confused. **** this hurts. Back to like my bike wreck. I feel so awful right now. **** **** ****. Thought I had this under control. Apparently not. My foot hurts so bad. My head is swollen.
Avatar f tn Hi, This sounds weird but it's true, there is a disease called 'fish malodor syndrome' or trimethylaminuria that one of my friends in college had. His symptoms were alot like yours. You might want to look it up and see if it sounds like you. Good luck and I hope you find a diagnosis soon, what a devastating problem to have....being a teenager is hard enough all by itself.
233488 tn?1310696703 Trial lawyers would be everywhere soliciting lawsuits against the manufacturer. The toxic drug is marijuana (cannabis) and this nightmare health scenario has occurred in other states. It might occur in Missouri or Kansas if ill-informed and misleading groups like John Payne’s Show-Me Cannabis (As I See It, 10/20/2013) have their way. There is already a considerable amount of medical research showing marijuana to be harmful that is never mentioned by advocates of legal marijuana.
Avatar n tn the last few days Blackjack is listless, he has eaten small amounts of food and did drink a little water, he has been in hiding for the most part and just lays there. I realize there is no vet available today but would like to know if there is anything I can do for him between now and then?
Avatar m tn The technique in this manual involves bending over in a hot shower. Obviously, if you bend over in a shower, there is a slight possibility that you can get dizzy and fall down. You could possibly hit your head, get knocked out, or break something. It’s a tiny risk, greater if you are older, overweight, obese, or have reduced blood flow in your neck arteries, but it’s a risk you must assume if you want get rid of an otherwise untreatable sinus infection.
Avatar f tn I sure do miss her.) Give your dog lots of hugs and kisses, and tell her she is the best dog in the world.
Avatar m tn 9. There is a disease called atrophic rhinitis, which involves the decay of the mucus membranes in the sinuses. I don’t know much about it, that’s what ENTs and Google are for. 10. There are people who have been to multiple ENTs, and the doctors are completely mystified. 11. There may be a possibly be a fungal infection, possibly invasive, that doesn’t flush out with saline, but that’s just a hypothesis. 12.
541196 tn?1293556536 This morning I had a big pile of poo on the stove!!!! Mostly the problem is on the counter top or in the dog bowl... also on occassion in the office which is wood floors. The other locations are typically when like an item of clothing is left on the bathroom floor or something similar.
Avatar f tn Yes black mold is a huge triggering factor to this ailment! There is a protocol that works though! It is a long term maitenence protocol though as reinfection is almost inevitable. If you have Facebook go to mold & morgellons support protocol as well as the morgellons support science group. Both are private so no worries for the ones who like to deem is delusional! Happy healing!
661200 tn?1225486613 However, in the past 24 hours she has started to refuse her food again, is having tremors, smells uraemic (which had improved somewhat) and sleeps all the time. There is no cough, she is opening her bowels normally and passing urine. She does have polydypsia but that isn't new. My great dilemma is how do I know she Is not suffering? How will I know when to call the vet to put her to sleep? I want her here but I don't want to prolong her stress.

Avatar m tn My nails, especially on my feet look like they have a fungas, there was a greenish brown spot under my big nail which is now on a few nails, as well as on the other foot now as well. The discharge stopped a while back and turned into being incontinent(inability to hold urine) usually within 10 minutes of peeing, more would come out and I couldnt stop it, nor did i know it was coming. That has stopped now as well. Me and my wife have also been passing ALOT like a ton of gas aka farting alot.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind the statistics cited in the prescribing info is from trials. There is a relatively small amount of data used to compile these results, just a few hundred patients total. Some patients groups are quite small. There are multiple variables, such as co-morbidities, etc that may not have been represented in the trial group. Many trials explicitly exclude certain conditions.
