I have heard of this and it isn't safe at all nor remotely accurate. Urine has ammonia in it and when ammonia and bleach mix it releases a very toxic gas, and almost always when urine hits bleach it will fiz or foam that's what creates the gas. I had a friend who tried this once in high school, (just for fun, she wasn't pregnant nor did she want to be) and she ended up in the hospital from the gas it created. Sorry didn't mean to scare you just stating the facts.

It probably has nothing to do with the gender of your baby, but if the bleach foams and fizzles it could mean there is a larger than normal amount of ammonia in your urine. This could indicate a health problem, or it could simply mean that you are dehydrated. It is also possible that, if the concentration of ammonia is high enough, chlorine gas will form.

I'm almost positive I'm pregnant i would be 4weeks tomorrow but I'm gunna take a preg test in 6days but i noticed a few days after I most likely cocked I've been having really odorous urine it smells horrible :/ like there's ammonia smell to it have any of you ladies had this same problem in early pregnancy?

Urine has ammonia in it. Ammonia mixed with bleach makes a VERY toxic gas.

Urinary bladder infection and kidney infections do produce strong smelling urine. Another reason is dehydration. Strong ammonia smell is due to protein breakdown. A routine urine examination along with a urine culture will be able to detect the problem. Drink plenty of fluids and water and see if that helps. Also if you are on crash diets etc then protein breakdown can cause an ammonia smell. Also diet rich in protein can be the cause.

What test do they do to test for to test for ammonia. I was just looking through the test that they have given me and I can't find one that says anything about ammonia. They do give me lactolose to try to prevent that, but I just wondered what the test is called. My albumin was a little low so was my sodium, and calcium, on my last test. They do give me propranolol, now, for my varices. They also give a bunch of dieritics. We'll 40mg furosemide and 100mg spironolacton.

Ammonia odor can be associated with H. pylori. Ammonia can also be associated with urine and fecal material and not due to H. pylori.

The ammonia smell is in my nose and nowhere else, not not urine, not my skin, Its strange. And I drink 8 - 10 glasses of water a day.

you need more than just blood testing for std's. you need urine testing and if you've had anal sex, anal swabs. really nothing we can do to help you at this point. continue to follow up with your doctors as needed for your symptoms.

after 3rd transplant on 10month old and numerous other surgeries for complications in a little over 2 weeks, last on was 4-31-12 all labs normal till today ammonia up to 417 2nd test was 377 what can cause ammonia to go up but everything else to be good?

I think I started this post just to ask if he would excrete ammonia in his urine if his levels were high; it's beginning to appear to me that this is the case. Any idea if this is an early or later sign of the progression of this disease? Without him agreeing to see the doctor, I have to depend on the knowledge of others.

My first suggestion would be to go see your regular doctor (not the OB) a regular general practitioner so that you can have a full physical. The urine smell is probably an ammonia smell and there are some causes for an ammonia smell including a skin infection with Helicobacter (this is a bacteria), a high protein diet, liver problems, etc. If everything checks out with your regular doctor, I think my next suggestion would be to see an endocrinologist. Anyone notice an odd smell to their urine? For the past 3 days ive noticed a particular smell to my urine that im not use to. I dont have any symptoms of infection or anything so what is causing this? It smells bad but not like the ammonia smell you get with a UTI. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis. Take enough lactulose to have 3-4 bowel movements per day and your ammonia level will drop and you will feel better. Normal is 15-60 mcg/dL. It usually that a day or a couple of days for the ammonia levels to drop. I am not sure of your health status.
