Common Questions and Answers about Is depression medication bad for you

Avatar f tn I am currently looking for a new depression medication. I need some info on something that is NOT a SSRI, a hormone, and is not zoloft, celexa, or prozac......also something that does not contain salicylic acid aka aspirin. If anyone can help I would appreciate the help.
411389 tn?1230128077 You also need to taper off of benzodiazepines like the valium. Paxil is good for depression and I believe it is also good for social anxiety.
Avatar f tn The key is to find the right doc, ask around, look in the internet for your area, ask your primary doc for a referral. You need to get help. You have to be very patient because it is not a quick fix, it never is. But the wait is worth it. You are a strong person, I know this because you are still alive and are asking for help. I know that in your state of depression right now it is even hard to take a shower or get out of bed, no energy, no strength to do the smallest task.
Avatar f tn I'm on 50 mg Zoloft
Avatar f tn Im on medication for depression and anxiety. Also occasionally I have a sedative in case I go bizzercerz. Would that hurt my child more than stress would?
Avatar n tn However if your doctor has prescibed this drug for anxiety then I think that it is safe for you assume that it used for anxiety. Does it not mention what the drug is used for on the directions/side affects? They wouldn't prescribe a drug that is of no use to you. I was on a drug called Olanzapine and that had had some bad press about it possibly causing diabetes.
Avatar f tn I cannot stress how important that is, along with medication. Also, be sure that the doctor prescribing your medication is a child/adolescent psychiatrist. There are a lot of special considerations with non-adults and psych medications. Best to you, keep us posted on how you're doing okay?
1136436 tn?1261829761 If you have been prescribed medication for depression and have been taking it as prescribed can you say you feel better than before you started taking them? If so then the likelihood is that if you stop taking them the depression will simply return. Unless you have identified and corrected problems and issues in your life that were causing depression that is. Depression doesn't just disappear because we want it to. You have to work hard with treatment to achieve that.
12182312 tn?1427687556 Usually the first line of medicine that is prescribed is Plaquinel. There is a generic form hydroxychoriquine. It has really helped me too. Many times they will use steroids to help calm things down and bring it to a place where it can be maintained on medicines that are not as harsh on the body.
Avatar f tn Now about your question i am diagnosed with severe anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd), and depression and for my depression they have switched my meds more then once on me and i never personally noticed significant weight loss i think the first week of one of them i gauined 0.

Avatar f tn I have stopped 3 times, but for me, the depression always comes back. You have to decide what is best for you. It is known that depression does often return. Try stopping, if you feel you want to, and see how you go. Only you can decide.
Avatar f tn This way the meds will be in your system and working by then. The stress and depression isn't just bad for you, it's bad for baby as well.

Panic attacks are very difficult I know. I do hope you are now getting professional help. Let us know how you are getting on.

Avatar f tn First, who can predict what might change in the future, for them, for our ability to treat them... And also, whether they take it long term is obviously going to depend on whether it helps them, which we don't know yet... So instead I say let's commit to trying this for a reasonable amount of time and then we can assess whether the benefits seem to outweigh the disadvantages.
Avatar f tn One positive for you is that it seems like your main symptom is headache aggravated by activity. From what I have heard, headache responds very well to surgery. Whereas other neurological symptoms sometimes don't. I also don't live too far from you and Selma. I am in northwest NJ. I go to long island to see my doctor who is a chiari specialist and I think I am in good hands.
Avatar n tn Cognitive-Behavioral psychotherapy is particularly useful for the treatment of depression. You might reuqest a referral for this therapy. Talk to your doctor about your concerns and treatment plans.
Avatar f tn There is no need to kill yourself Once you get off the meds you will be so surprised to see your life right there waiting for you.. 224049 tn?1204594715 I just am so scared of the depression getting so bad when I quit. My doctor increased my zoloft but still feel very depressed.
Avatar m tn Are all the problems of equal importance (of course they are but sometimes we have to prioritise) and can you stop one or two while the other is stabilised? It's impossible to attribute good or bad to a med if there are a number mixing you see. Be in charge and tell the doc when it doesn't work and ask to change. Sometimes up to 6 weeks is needed but mostly you know in about 2 weeks, once side effects start to settle down.
Avatar f tn I was just worried that you had been taking sleeping pills for so long. That really is a question for someone who knows more about drugs. I do hope you get the answer. i am sure sombody on this forum will have the knowledge .
