Common Questions and Answers about Is ciprodex used for swimmers ear

ciprodex

93654 tn?1247499334 My general practioner gave me some Ciprodex samples for pink eye. I used them for several days and just now reading the drug information which states they're not approved for use in the eye. I should have read the drug information before using them, but I assumed they were eye drops. Could they cause any problems/damage to my eyes? Should I be concerned or follow-up with my eye doctor?
Avatar n tn Excellent advice, merceditas. Ciprodex otic is an antibiotic ear drop that combines the antibiotic ciprofloxacin with the glucocorticoid steroid dexamethasone. While both of these things are safe to use on a dog, human-strength drugs are often too strong to be used on our much-smaller four-legged companions, and what starts out as a well-meaning gesture quickly turns into a medical emergency far bigger than the original problem.
Avatar m tn I have had for the last 5 months, fluid leaking from ear, A thick yellow sometimes clear puss like fluid, Cause? Infection, I was prescribed ciprodex a week ago, Im suppose to take it for 14 days and then get surgery to patch a hole in my left ear. The fluid is still leaking, all the time, How can the medication work if my ears wont stay dry? The fluid is probably blocking the medication from actually working.
Avatar m tn Hey! So this all started about two months ago when I decided it would be a good idea to self-irrigate my ear after experiencing a lot of wax. I got a syringe and some warm water and just started blasting into my right ear canal. It didn't end up being successful as the wax never actually did come out, but I then started having earaches that have never fully healed. I've been to the doctor 4 times since then.
Avatar m tn I now also have burning/freezing pain in both legs that is sometimes unbearable (especially at nights) and body-wide twitching 1- I have read that Cipro can have peripheral neuropathy, panic attacks and twitching as side effect that can start (or go on) even months after discontinuation of medication. I know this is more common with the oral/IV Cipro but I may have used the CiproDex for longer duration that was prescribed. I believe that I was misdiagnosed with anxiety and hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn It usually does take some time to get better but hopefully you are on the road to recovery. Now that you have tubes in your ears be extra careful not to get water in your ears when you shower and it's best not to submerge your whole head in a pool or jacuzzi because that can cause another infection.I noticed your other post about the circle. My husband hasn't had any problem with dry mouth he just hates the taste of it when it drains down his throat.
Avatar m tn I know this is more common with the oral/IV Cipro but I may have used the CiproDex for longer duration that was prescribed. I really believe that I was misdiagnosed with anxiety and hyperthyroidism and a borderline hyperthyroid threw everyone off. Can I have Cipro-induced sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy? If yes, with the current symptoms and their long duration, is my neuropathy reversible? Is there anything that I can do?
Avatar f tn The alcohol absobs the water/gets the water out of your ear and the vinegar puts the acidity back in your ear. I had swimmers ear alot when I was younger and my niece has it right now. I used this mixture every time I went swimming too, to prevent it from occuring. I am sorry you have it. I know how painful it is.
Avatar f tn Since then, my ear drums are not open, after one week i also have a sour taste in my mouth. What causes the sour taste is it swimmers ears. I am using swim sport drops for swimmers ears to dry out the water, but the ear drums only open when i put my finger in the ear and touch my eardrums, then after 30 seconds it closes again. I can hear but not so good. My eardrums do still feel wet. Is it normal that the ears have not returned to normal after 2 weeks.

1899725 tn?1321500363 m actually a pediatic RN and know that this is not normal. A couple of nights, the ear drops would not even go in the ear canal. His ear canal has a fuzzy, white appearance to it. I'm waiting on an appt with his ENT for next week. He has a history of asthma and severe GERD. This is the first ear infection that we have dealt with since he was 18 months old. Can anyone offer any advice?
Avatar f tn (Letting gravity take over by laying on my side, chewing gum while laying on my side, hydrogenperoxide, rubbing alcohol, rubbing alcohol with vinegar and even over the counter swimmers ear drops.) My ear canal is sore and still nothing has helped. It’s annoying and things that friends have had worked aren’t working for me. Help!
Avatar m tn t felling better in a couple of days, and to schedule a recheck for a week later. Thursday, my ear still felt plugged, I was getting sharp pains, and ringing so I went back to the doctor. He said that there is alot of drainage in there and it kinda looked like swimmer's ear. He also said he wasn't able to see my eardrum because there was so much drainage. He put me on Ciprodex. Here I am, 5 days after all of this started, and my ear is still plugged!!!
1274769 tn?1272839229 I now also have burning/freezing pain in both legs that is sometimes unbearable (especially at nights) as well as body-wide twitching (suprisingly except my eyelids) 1- I have read that Cipro can have peripheral neuropathy, panic attacks and twitching as side effect that can start even months after discontinuation of medication. Avatar m tn Fluid behind the ear is secondary to infection in the throat or nose which can cause a backwater effect and block a tube called eustachian tube (which has easy access to ear, nose and throat and lies at the back of the nose) and thereby leads to absorption of air in the middle ear and it is replaced by a sterile fluid in the middle ear.If your ear drum is intact, then the two infections are not related to one incident.
Avatar f tn He should follow the instructions for ear drops and complete his antibiotic course. He can use OTC Acetaminophen also for relief from pain. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1759659 tn?1312975493 Two days ago I started to get this pain in my inner ear I have read up about the possibilities of which it could be ; Ear Infection, Swimmers Ear A Non-Burst Ear drum of a flight and a Burst Ear Drum since of these things I think that may have to go into way more detail. Firstly I was swimming in my pool under water when I heard water suction which went into my ear when I got out I tried to dispurse of this water.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also said swimmer's ear cases amounted to about $500 million in annual medical costs — or roughly $200 per visit.

Avatar n tn Take a cotton ball and saturate it and clean the outer part of the ear and squeeze a little bit into the ear canal. Do this daily until it is gone. My vet told me this will not hurt the dog, works everytime. You can also give your pet a teaspoon of yogurt daily and this helps prevent them.
1424595 tn?1435974817 t see how it could have reached my middle ear...and then inner ear. If this even is the cause for me escalating dizziness or just a coincidence that happened to fall around the same time that my meneire's was presenting a new kind of vertigo. Any advise info on this matter would be appreciated.

Avatar n tn Ent relented and gave me Ciprodex ear drops. Began using 3 daya ago, they seem to help, especially first 2days, but the antibiotics I was on at the time, the prescribed term to use them was up! Now the drops don't seem as effective??? In the interim saw my family doctor, she looked in both ears, said the one ear, ear dum is clear, like saran wrap, the ear that I'm having the problem with, she said looks pink and thicker, she didn't seem to have an answer!!!
