Is cipro in the penicillin family

Common Questions and Answers about Is cipro in the penicillin family

cipro

Avatar m tn t say that Cipro affected my PVCs, but that might have been because I was distracted by the painful tendinitis it gave me. Cipro is one of the fluoroquinolone antibiotics, and while they have their uses, they are associated with tendon inflammation and rupture in a certain percentage of patients. I am one of those.
Avatar m tn If you want to substitute Cipro for one of these other drugs Cipro is in the same drug class as Levofloxacin. Levofloxacin will have the similar side effect though. Strep group B is the problem allthough it depends on if the prostate sample was collected sterilily such as a biopsy. If so then the virudans strep could also be the problem and viridans strep are more resistant to antibiotics.
1726450 tn?1316282511 I have an abscess tooth. Badly infected. Tried Penicillin VK, infection stayed. Trying Clindamycin- not helping to well so far after 3 days. Doctors office hard to get a hold of and dentist is out of ideas. I will ask my Dr office tomorrow- but need to throw this question out: Question: Who had antibiotics for dental infection during treatment and what antibiotic worked for you?
Avatar m tn Strep throat is caused by Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci (Streptococcus pyogenes). Penicillin(s) are generally prescribed in the treatment of strep throat. If your medical provider has ordered Levaquin I assume there are good reasons. Allergy to penicillin?? Levaquin is an effective ATB . Levofloxacin (trade names Levaquin (US), Tavanic (EU), and others) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone drug class.
Avatar n tn You can double check with the pharmacist when you go in to pick it up as well. They know the drugs the best; that's their job.
Avatar m tn t test again until 3 months after treatment, and what they are looking for is a 4-fold drop in the titre. You might always test positive, but your titre would be a lot lower - around 1:1 to maybe 1:4. Test again at 3 months, and go from there.
Avatar f tn Hi wondering if anyone can help me please. A month ago I started to have cramping pain in lower abdomen and frequent urination . My doctor put me on macrobid but that didn't help . Then put me on cipro which didn't help either . The pain would come and go with lower back pain as well and getting up to urinate and bladder pressure all the time . After that my urine culture came back positive with group b strep . I'm not pregnant . My doctor gave me 7 days of penicillin .
Avatar n tn many gonorrhea strains are resistant to cipro, especially in men who have sex with men; and azithromycin in the dose you received is around 80-90% effective. To the specific questions: 1) Low risk, since oral sex is pretty safe -- not completely risk free for STDs, but much less risky than vaginal or anal sex -- and the anal sex was condom-protected. 2) As discussed above, gonorrhea is the only one likely.
548956 tn?1215474067 Do I have to wait more time for the medicines to take effect, or is it possible that the infection might be resistant to the treatment? Also, are the treatments for rectal gonorrhea the same, or if not, which are such treatments? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn I am feeling much better except on my left side there is an aching soreness on my left side below my rib cage when I breathe in. I have 3 days left of the Cipro. Is it safe to say that It is sore because of the polyp removal and that it will subside eventually?
Avatar m tn Penicillin indeed is the treatment of choice, in fact the only recommended treatment. Cefalexin has never been studied against syphilis. It probably would have some activity, but cannot be considered reliable treatment -- and it could screw up further diagnostic testing, for example to judge whether it had actually worked. If you would like to provide more information about your syphilis diagnosis (stage, blood test results, etc) I might have additional thoughts.
Avatar m tn I have had about 8-10 episodes, treated successfully with cipro and flagyl. In July 2014, I got hives on day 6 of treatment. Medication was stopped but dvt continued to improve. I am also allergic to penicillin (erythema nodosum) and clindomyecin (rash). I was advised to have a sigmoid colectomy to reduce episodes of dvt. I had the surgery in February 2015. I am currently on a river cruise in Europe. I had a flare of dvt which presented as it always does four days ago. I went to a doctor at St.
Avatar m tn my concern is that i go to get tested and it will read negative and I will pass it to my spouse I went back to my dr today and begged him to give me something else because ive read cipro is uslles so he gave me a shot disselin (I think thats how you spell it) and 14 days of doxy will this clear up syphilis,c and g . I think this will work for the syphilis and clamedia but not sure of gonorrhea. Im sory about all the questions but I am so scared.
Avatar m tn I am leery of anything that could add to my liver damage and normally try to get an antibiotic in the penicillin family. There are times that the risk outweighs the benefit. Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your comments! I do have some kind of pain in the penis, but there is no discharge or burning on urinating. The UTI test was while on Cipro, so I'm wondering how valid the negative is. And the lack of specific STI symptoms - I wonder if they could be moderated by the Cipro, but not fully eliminated. Just trying to figure out what course of action to take at this time. Anxiety - um yeah lol. I'm pretty anxious about this.
Avatar n tn After the 2 weeks I improved alittle but I was still in alot of disconfort. The urologist took me off of cipro and told me to wait and see if I recovered more!? which scared since I knew I was not cured. After 2 days a got worse again and called the doc....He put me on Bactrim for 2 weeks which really did not do anything for me...after bactrim he put me again on cipro and after 2 weeks a i developed prostatitis which is basically an infection in the prostate.
Avatar m tn I also have problem sitting, i can feel annoying discomfort in my buttocks and perineum area and legs muscle stiffness especially at the end of the day. The pain seems to disappear in the morning, it start upon sitting in my car seat and while at work.
Avatar n tn It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?
Avatar n tn If I have sex, I use a condom. Every time. However, I occasionally receive oral sex and it's always unprotected. 3 weeks ago I received oral sex from a girl who said she was clean. I only last about 2 minutes, it was over. 4 days later I noticed a rugburn type mark on my penis. Looks exactly like penile psoriasis when I google it. Doesn't hurt, doesn't itch. I then began to have a slight burn in my urethra. Not when I urinate, but just casually throughout the day.
Avatar m tn He put me on Cipro for 1 week. After the Cipro was finished, the burning in the urethra had stop but a slight pain in my prostate was still there at nights for a while. About a week ago (3weeks after i finished the cipro) i realize that the pain in my prostate felt as if it was gone but now i feel the burning in my urethra and penis returning again as it did before. I am convince that I must have contracted some sort of virus or bacterial infection or STD from my sexual encounter.
Avatar f tn t working, but Cephalexin is different enough it might work. You can tell if its working if the pain/swelling go away in 4-5 days.
Avatar m tn t use my hands to open bottles and things of that nature due to tingling in my hands from the swellings and from the veins near surface of hands. Went to ER and they only visually looked and said they see nothing wrong with veins and swellings probably from eating to much salt, which is not true because my diet hasn't changed and I haven't experienced this before.
