cipro

Avatar m tn Penicillin, ampicillin, cefotaxime are a similar drug class Cephaloporins and penicillin type drugs, and levofloxacin and cipro are also in their own drug class (quinolones) while vancomycin is a diffierent drug class. Let me know what I can help you with. Or if I answered your question.
Avatar n tn Erythromycin and Cipro are both on the QT drug list that can cause prolongation of the QT interval on an ECG and can cause the arrhythmia Torsades de pointe. This is usually worse for patients with Long QT Syndrome or for people taking anti arrhythmic drugs or other drugs also on the QT Drug list. Check it out at www.****.org.
Avatar m tn After day 9 the pain was unbearable so I stopped and three days later went to the ER for treatment, I told them I had a bad reaction to the Cipro so they changed my prescription to Bactrim which almost immediately dropped my pain level from a level of 8 to a 2 on a 1-10 scale. I’m still experiencing some pain daily and I’m wondering if it’s the Cipro still affecting my body or is it is it something else?
Avatar n tn According to U.S.D.A. apparently yes, there are traces of antibiotics in the flesh and eggs from poultry. Their studies show no observable effect ( no acute effect for allergies and no chronic effects for cancer and other diseases) I personally do not accept industry or gov't studies at face value. In my experience I understand that Big Business comes first. The citizens/consumers come second. You be the judge The formula used by the U.S.D.
Avatar n tn You probably should be talking to your sons doctor or pharmacist and ask if it is ok that he takes the prevacid when he has an allergy to penicillin. A lot can also depend on the type of reaction he gets from the penicillin as well. So my advice would be just to call up your pharmacist or doctor and ask. It never hurts to be safe rather then sorry. Hope that helps!
Avatar m tn However penicillin allergy itself is very dangerous. Even if it causes mild reaction at the first dose, subsequent doses’ cumulative anaphylaxis is itself life threatening. Today there are many alternatives to penicillin. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage without further details. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have taken cipro a lot too and it hasn't bothered me before. But I recently took it and after 1 dose my heart started acting weird. Any antibiotic of that class can cause heart palpitations. Unfortunately, most of the antibiotics I can take have that potential side effect, I'm allergic to penicillin.
Avatar f tn Hi wondering if anyone can help me please. A month ago I started to have cramping pain in lower abdomen and frequent urination . My doctor put me on macrobid but that didn't help . Then put me on cipro which didn't help either . The pain would come and go with lower back pain as well and getting up to urinate and bladder pressure all the time . After that my urine culture came back positive with group b strep . I'm not pregnant . My doctor gave me 7 days of penicillin .

1726450 tn?1316282511 Here at the transplant center they give us Cipro during hepatitis C treatment to prevent infections. I tool it for months. Seemed to work. No infections.
Avatar m tn Skin testing is the best method for diagnosing a penicillin allergy. If found to be allergic, the main treatment is avoidance of future use of amoxicillin and related antibiotics. Other groups of antibiotics with the same efficacy, may be used to treat the infection. Amoxicillin's efficacy is not affected even if you have allergies to this drug. It is discontinued due to the allergic symptoms manifested by the patient.
Avatar m tn my concern is that i go to get tested and it will read negative and I will pass it to my spouse I went back to my dr today and begged him to give me something else because ive read cipro is uslles so he gave me a shot disselin (I think thats how you spell it) and 14 days of doxy will this clear up syphilis,c and g . I think this will work for the syphilis and clamedia but not sure of gonorrhea. Im sory about all the questions but I am so scared.
Avatar f tn I am allergic to PCN and Cipro and have been given Nitrofurantoin for 7 days. I am very afraid to take it. Does anyone have any experiences with it or can recommend other meds to take? Thank you for any suggestions!
Avatar f tn I was prescribed antibiotics (allergic to penicillin, so I was given erythromyacin) the eyrthromyacin failed to work after about 10 days, so I was given biaxin, which failed at which time my eardrum ruptured and I was given cipro, and I had to discontinue do to adverse effects. The ear was still plugged and causing severe sharp pain. After 54 days the pain subsided. 1 month later, its back.
Avatar f tn I have been having really bad heartburn and a burning feeling in my stomach. I was told to take Nexium but I have a severe allergy to penicillin. My question is, can I take nexium if I'm allergic to penicillin?
Avatar n tn Greetings. I'm a 36 year old male with no significant health history other than being allergic to penicillin. Last May I awoke around midnight with severe abdominal pain. My face became bright red and my arms went numb. My heart raced faster than I have ever felt it outside of running. My wife called the ambulance but by the time they got there I had had a massive bowel movement and was trending back towards normal.
Avatar n tn I took 1 dose of 500mg Cipro Friday night at 5:30p.m. Immediately felt flushed and red in the face. I continue to have flare ups 3 days later. How long does this take to go away.
Avatar f tn my daughter tends to break out at random (she is 2) but the rashes / hives goes away after a couple of hours. We still have no idea what the allergy is. Now she was diagnosed with an ear infection yesterday, she didn't see her normal doctor because her normal doctor was out of town, which is fine, I know the other doctor. the doctor gave her amoxicillin for her ear infection.
Avatar m tn Actually, I would avoid any product that has mold on it, mold, as you know, it a precursor to penicillin, and to be on the safe side, I would just avoid it. Have you had any food/chemical allergy tests? If not, I would suggest you inquire about them. The doctor writes a script for the lab to do some blood draws, and then they test the blood for certain allergens, I believe it is called the RAST test, I had one, I could not believe all I was allergic too. No wonder I always felt badly.
Avatar f tn It is quite evident that you are allergic to penicillin mold like penicillin notatum and chrysogenum spp. Such allergy in patients ranges from mild rash to severe reactions and depends on the body's magnitude of sensitization to such molds. This can be possible that you are not allergic to other type of molds. Penicillin molds have thiazolidine ring which may be the cause of allergy. The allergic reaction keeps on worsening unless exposure to offending mold is discontinued.
Avatar f tn Today can be marked down as the most unsuccessful doc's appt. I have ever had!! I am dead serious!! First, I arrived at my appt. for 1:30, I had to wait about 20 mins. then when I get in, I had to wait again and fill out a ton of paperwork on what kind of allergies I had, I was only there to get a stinking allergy test done to see if I was allergic to penicillin, not for all the other bologna that I was questioned about.
548956 tn?1215474067 Many strains of gonorrhea are now resistant to cipro, and he can continue to increase the dose, and its still not going to work.
Avatar m tn If i'm allergic to penicillium(4) on my allergy test, i'm I allergic to penicillin too and what is penicillium means, I really would like to avoid the allergens.
Avatar n tn I had an acute allergic reaction on Jan. 2, 2008 to Penicillin, my hands swelled and were burning . I was hospitalized and given intervenous steroids. I continued on the sterdoids by mouth along with Zyrtec and Benedril. My hands completely peeled and everything was getting better when suddenly from out of nowhere the swelling came back to my hands and the burning, I went back to the ER and was admitted again, now I have been home two days and my hands are going to peel again.
Avatar n tn I am also allergic to penicillin and sulpha drugs. I have sucessfully taken Macrobid without any problems. I have sensitivity to many medications so when I get a new one never taken before I wait to start it until I know someone will be home with me. Sometimes starting the first dose at work where there are a lot of people around. You could do the same and give instructions to co-workers on how to use your epipen if you carry one.
