Avatar n tn According to U.S.D.A. apparently yes, there are traces of antibiotics in the flesh and eggs from poultry. Their studies show no observable effect ( no acute effect for allergies and no chronic effects for cancer and other diseases) I personally do not accept industry or gov't studies at face value. In my experience I understand that Big Business comes first. The citizens/consumers come second. You be the judge The formula used by the U.S.D.
Avatar m tn However penicillin allergy itself is very dangerous. Even if it causes mild reaction at the first dose, subsequent doses’ cumulative anaphylaxis is itself life threatening. Today there are many alternatives to penicillin. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage without further details. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have to say I had the same problem with Ciprofloxacin. It made my heart palps worse and also made me seriously dizzy. So much so that when stopping my car and getting out it felt like I was still driving. I took 3 days of a 5 day course and on doctors advice was told to stop. If they offer you Nitrofur-C after that then please be careful as I had a lung reaction to it and couldn't stop coughing.
Avatar m tn If any expert can help me on the dosage of Penicillin G Potassium tablets everyday and how efficient it is with respect to Benzathine Penicillin it will help me greatly thanks.
Avatar n tn Yeas ago, my son (3 years at the time, 33 years ago) was sick with a bad cold. The doctor put him on a penicillin type antiobiotic. The next day he developed a rash, so the doctor thinking that it was an allergic reaction, changed his drug to erythromycin. The next morning, my son had lots of redness and swollen eyes. I rushed him to another doctor who immediately gave him a shot of a penicillin derivative and put him back on the penicillin type drug.
Avatar m tn I have had about 8-10 episodes, treated successfully with cipro and flagyl. In July 2014, I got hives on day 6 of treatment. Medication was stopped but dvt continued to improve. I am also allergic to penicillin (erythema nodosum) and clindomyecin (rash). I was advised to have a sigmoid colectomy to reduce episodes of dvt. I had the surgery in February 2015. I am currently on a river cruise in Europe. I had a flare of dvt which presented as it always does four days ago. I went to a doctor at St.
Avatar m tn If a person who is truly allergic to penicillin has an infection that requires treatment with penicillin, a desensitization process can be performed until the person can tolerate a full therapeutic dose. I hope this helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I am allergic to PCN and Cipro and have been given Nitrofurantoin for 7 days. I am very afraid to take it. Does anyone have any experiences with it or can recommend other meds to take? Thank you for any suggestions!
Avatar f tn I am a 25 year old woman with fairly severe allergies to just about all the usual suspects. I recently came down with what appeared to be an ear infection- the first one in my life. I was prescribed antibiotics (allergic to penicillin, so I was given erythromyacin) the eyrthromyacin failed to work after about 10 days, so I was given biaxin, which failed at which time my eardrum ruptured and I was given cipro, and I had to discontinue do to adverse effects.
Avatar f tn I have been having really bad heartburn and a burning feeling in my stomach. I was told to take Nexium but I have a severe allergy to penicillin. My question is, can I take nexium if I'm allergic to penicillin?
Avatar n tn I googled the med and there are plenty of sites for information. From what I see erythro is not in the same class of drugs as penicillin. As for heart arrhythmias, it seems to be dangerous only if you're taking certain other drugs at the same time. I don't recognize the meds that were listed so it would be better for you to check it for yourself. See if any of those ring a bell for you. I have taken erythromycin in years past, usually for respiratory problems.
Avatar f tn then when I get in, I had to wait again and fill out a ton of paperwork on what kind of allergies I had, I was only there to get a stinking allergy test done to see if I was allergic to penicillin, not for all the other bologna that I was questioned about. My mom was waiting in the car with my two kids and my niece (since I do not drive). I did not know how horribly long this rediculous appt. was going to last! The "Doc." comes in and starts talking about my family doc.
Avatar n tn I took 1 dose of 500mg Cipro Friday night at 5:30p.m. Immediately felt flushed and red in the face. I continue to have flare ups 3 days later. How long does this take to go away.
Avatar m tn Hello fbeau, Just did some quick research. After searching the question on the internet, Is penicillium (4) the same as penicillin? , I came up with the following information. It ( penicillium) was previously known as penicillium notatum.
Avatar m tn So I was told a long time ago I have a bad allergy to penicillin, I just found out penicillium produces penicillin and was wondering because brie cheese has a rind made of penicillium if it's safe for me to eat this cheese? I ate a little bit of it and got somewhat sick roughly an hour later all before I found out what its rind is made of.
Avatar n tn Avoid any medications that contain penicillin and seek consult with an allergologist as soon as possible. By this time, the penicillin must have been excreted from the body given that you have stopped taking it from the onset of your symptoms. Other triggers have to be ruled out however and the allergologist will be able to help.
Avatar n tn As you have a history of penicillin allergy. If your body is hypersensitive to sulfa, reaction will be similar to that you develop for penicillin. Each individual are known to respond to a drug differently in drug allergy. If the drug is too much sensitized then it can cause more severe reaction.

Avatar m tn mrbreezy wrote in on June 17th about a rash involving his genitals after using terciseptic. He also mentioned that he is allergic to penicillin and some other antibiotics. The symptoms he describes and the difficulty he was having finding a cure are very similar to the fixed drug reactions I have suffered for years from penicillin and sulfa drugs. An intense rash on my genitals and penis.
Avatar f tn So, in July, I received unprocted oral from another man. I was super drunk and it was like 2 or 3 minutes. I didn't ejaculate. I've learned I do not have a risk for HIV but may have risk for other things. I've taken 2 weeks of cipro and flagyl together. 2g Azithromycin and 14 days of doxycycline. I continue to have itching throughout my body and around penis head. Never had discharge. However, I did notice a very small white bump under my penis head. Resembling a pimple.
640719 tn?1277140030 I talked to the pharmacist and they said with my resistance to macrodatin (not sure of spelling) cipro and levaquin and allergy to penicillin, ceftin, and now batrium, not sure what they can do for me :o I can take Keflex but I'm reading that is most likely not to effective in treating UTI's. I'm sure fear is not helping my UTI sensations. How big of trouble may I be in concerning this situation? What can they do? Any input would be grateful.
Avatar n tn You probably should be talking to your sons doctor or pharmacist and ask if it is ok that he takes the prevacid when he has an allergy to penicillin. A lot can also depend on the type of reaction he gets from the penicillin as well. So my advice would be just to call up your pharmacist or doctor and ask. It never hurts to be safe rather then sorry. Hope that helps!
