5276842 tn?1365878296 I have experience of living gluten dairy free as my boys are both autistic and the oldest one was gluten dairy msg free for about a year it didn't really help very much and as he was a faddy eater we went back to a normal healthy diet. I didn't find it too much if a hassle to Follow this diet I cook most things from scratch anyway and just found a few changes were needed. I guess I just need to cut out gluten and see how it goes.
Avatar m tn Will keep your advice in mind during the surgery/no surgery decision process. Currently, do gluten free and keep dairy intake to a minimum.
Avatar n tn Like people who are not absorbing their nutrients can be gluten intollerant. I would follow a gluten free diet and see if you have any changes. It took me 2 months off of gluten before I felt a difference. So it might be a long term change. After one year on this diet I can now take my supplements and feel a difference. It seems from what I read that gluten damages the lining of the intestines that absorb nutrients into the body.
Avatar f tn re already eating mostly gluten free unless all you eat is bread and pasta. And pasta is readily available made out of gluten-free grains, unlike bread, which is quite different gluten-free. In other words, using brown rice is still using brown rice. Spices still taste the same. You're just switching grains, not everything.
Avatar f tn s is a brand of gluten free baked goods you may find pretty good. Canyon Bake House makes a terrific gluten free rosemary focaccia bread that is actually soft and not crumbly.
Avatar f tn many people have tried going gluten free in hopes that it will help with thyroid. There is little evidence that it helps with thyroid specifically. However many people report feeling better in general. So regardless of whether or not it helped specifically with thyroid, if they felt better then it was worth it. From what I've been reading, it takes at LEAST 6 months of gluten free as a minimum before you may start to see the benefits if any.
Avatar f tn Luckily many grocery stores around me carry gluten free foods and there is a strict gluten free/dairy free/vegan bakery close by if I get a sweet tooth.
Avatar m tn I do not have a large intestine, had surgery 13 years ago. at the place small colon is connected i had a CT scan which says i have a stricture and scarring. I am having terrible bloating and cannot eat any large meal, also can't do fiber, gluten or carbs. Any suggestions. I take amitiza twice a day and drink miralax every night with prune juice. this has ruined my life. it has just gotten worse over the last 6 months.
Avatar f tn I tried an IBS diet but that did nothing to alleviate my symptoms (it might have even made the worse especially the bloating). ive tried cutting out dairy and gluten from my diet and nothing works. The pain is so bad that ive had to miss 15% of school this year. please help me. i am in so much pain.
Avatar f tn Is it possible/ recommended to do a gluten free diet crossed with a calorie controlled diet? I was thinking of cutting carbs also but if I have to have them they have to be gluten free? Is that recommended ? Or is there any other way to do it?
1202943 tn?1347840652 For recipe ideas, google Gluten Free Club. The lady has already tried and failed at various recipes before posting recipes that work. You can also just google Gluten Free Recipes. There are insane numbers of resources available now. You do need to understand about binders such as xanthan gum and guar gum that need to be used to make gluten free bread and pastry items work. I wasn't able to use the quinoa pasta, though, because I am also very intolerant to corn.
Avatar n tn I'm curious as to whether or not the casein and gluten-free diet is one that needs to be adhered to for the entirety of a person's life who has autism and has found it to help? What happens if my son's autism improves because of this diet but he goes back to consuming casein and gluten some day? Will his autistic symptoms reappear or have they been cured?
Male My doctor has told me I need to move to a gluten-free diet....yikes!!! All my life (and that is a very long time--ha ha) I have generally eaten whatever I wanted to eat. This change to a GF diet seems like such a huge mountain to climb. I know there are many others who have had to change to a GF diet after a lifetime of eating what they wanted with little or no restrictions. How does a person even get started on a change like this? What do you do when you go out to eat at a restaurant?
Avatar f tn In that time, i have had what i assume (my doc has as well) is hemorrhoids that show up maybe once a month, if im lucky a few months. In the past year, it has gotten so much worse. I have only loose stools but get constipated for weeks on end. I have tried every single form of laxative, suppository, stool softener, even ibs focused medication like amitiza. I cant take a laxative unless i have been constipated for about 10 days otherwise it wont work.
Avatar n tn Having said all of the above there is one difference I noticed with the Amitiza and that is the medication has greatly reduced the syncope episode I was having during a bowl movement which were occurring about once a month. Since I have been prescribed a Amitiza, which was about six months ago, I only had one syncope incident which by itself is a help to me. I hope my brief exegesis helps.

1202943 tn?1347840652 I decided I wanted to feel better and was willing to try a gluten free diet. I have never been tested for CD, but I noticed I felt better being gluten free. Every time I cheat I don't feel so good. I don't have many of the digestive issues, but I feel sluggish, achy, have more allergies, and bloated. It's amazing all the info I've found online. I've even read that some people think gluten can trigger Graves'.
780647 tn?1304020942 Find alternatives to your normal gluten foods. For example buy gluten free cereals, pasta, and bread (some of these are only found at certain stores). Also read every single label of everything you eat (things you wouldn't expect like soy sauce are not gluten free). Also don't eat out at any restaurants while you are trying the gluten free diet. Let me know if you have any other questions.
290018 tn?1240365868 It is good to get tested, but one of the most decisive methods I have found is to actually go gluten free. For me, going gluten free provided dramatic results. I wanted to get tested anyways so I did the genetic test and the antibodies test. I have the gene that 90% of Celiacs have, but the antibodies test was not supportive of Celiacs (however they only ran two of the antibodies, and I had been gluten free for a period before the test).
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar f tn Before changing any child's diet, you really need to consult their pediatrician. This diet thing would probably work for kids who have allergies to wheat and milk. So, get your child allergy tested. I have read that this diet works for some autistic kids, but they have allergies to this stuff. If your child doesn't have allergies to this stuff, you are removing important nutrition from his diet!!! That's what our pediatrician told us.
