Carvedilol belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. It is responsible for inhibition of beta receptors present ubiquitously on the heart muscle. By blocking these receptors, it helps prevent the effects of adrenaline/noradrenaline on the heart thereby maintaining a low heart rate and reducing the energy expended by the heart per beat.
GI-5005 is whole, heat-killed recombinant yeast genetically modified to express HCV-specific protein targets. The mechanism of action for GI-5005 (i.e. immune elimination of infected hepatic cells) may work synergistically in combination with the current or emerging standard of care, which directly inhibits viral replication, to more effectively eradicate hepatitis C virus from the liver.

The therapeutic mechanisms of ribavirin for hepatitis C are unclear. Microarray analyses have shown that ribavirin increases induction of interferon-stimulated genes. We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
Also, the type of interferon used is different than that in Betaseron. Betaseron is interferon beta-1b NOT interferon beta 2-b. These little points are important.

Hi, my daughter diagnosed hep C in 2007, she has geno type 1B. They ran a bunch of test before start her treatment. The test came back with genotype is 6 !!! Where is the 1B go?
we gonna see her doctor in couple weeks. Is anyone experience something like this? Is the 1B is gone or, she hase both 1B and 6 now...... Any input is appreciated...

The success rate with the introduction today of the third drug (either Incivek or Victrelis ) added to the standard drugs Interferon & ribavirin ,has increased success rates to approx. 70 -80% (depending on many factors as you mentioned)
