betaseron

26471 tn?1211936521 Apparently, these factors are already in place before we even begin tx, especially in geno 1b. There are two 1b amino acid switches that may be predictors of nonresponse, and may be the reason why 1b is a little tougher to clear.
Avatar m tn Dear p1954 Carvedilol belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. It is responsible for inhibition of beta receptors present ubiquitously on the heart muscle. By blocking these receptors, it helps prevent the effects of adrenaline/noradrenaline on the heart thereby maintaining a low heart rate and reducing the energy expended by the heart per beat.
Avatar m tn GI-5005 is whole, heat-killed recombinant yeast genetically modified to express HCV-specific protein targets. The mechanism of action for GI-5005 (i.e. immune elimination of infected hepatic cells) may work synergistically in combination with the current or emerging standard of care, which directly inhibits viral replication, to more effectively eradicate hepatitis C virus from the liver.
382218 tn?1341181487 This mechanism of action may be in addition to the established anti-inflammatory role of FTY720 that is mediated by the reduction of inflammatory immune cells, called lymphocytes, from reaching the brain." (from http://www.msrc.co.uk/index.cfm?
Avatar m tn http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/578705 Ribavirin improves early responses to peginterferon through improved interferon signaling. Gastroenterology. 2010 Jul;139 The therapeutic mechanisms of ribavirin for hepatitis C are unclear. Microarray analyses have shown that ribavirin increases induction of interferon-stimulated genes. We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
Avatar f tn Also, the type of interferon used is different than that in Betaseron. Betaseron is interferon beta-1b NOT interferon beta 2-b. These little points are important. Also, in discussing male sperm counts and motility one must consider many, many factors - not just the most notable med the person is on. A man's sperm count and activity may be affected by things we don't even think about like temperature, alcohol, depression, meds like anti-depressants or antihypertensives.
Avatar f tn Hi, my daughter diagnosed hep C in 2007, she has geno type 1B. They ran a bunch of test before start her treatment. The test came back with genotype is 6 !!! Where is the 1B go? we gonna see her doctor in couple weeks. Is anyone experience something like this? Is the 1B is gone or, she hase both 1B and 6 now...... Any input is appreciated... W.
1149087 tn?1415316549 s the interferon part of the med which causes depression, so yes, I would expect that Betaseron (interferon-beta-1b) would be more likely than Rebif to cause the problem as it is the highest dose of all. You are very welcome - in all ways.
198419 tn?1360242356 I am no expert, but since three of the CRAB drugs are interferon beta (either 1a or 1b), they should all have the similar benefits/risks.
Avatar f tn boceprevir is in pharmacies now telaprevir should be by the end of the month they both have the same mechanism of action ( protease inhibitors ) and are comparable in efficacy mimi that 70% is for first timers only
Avatar m tn In addition, up to 50 percent of patients may not be eligible for treatment with interferon. Severe side-effects of interferon include heart failure, sepsis, leukopenia, depression and vision loss, resulting in adherence problems and treatment failure for many patients. Since 1999 there has been a significant increase in deaths due to chronic HCV, accounting for 15,000 deaths in the United States in 2007 alone.
Avatar m tn s first interferon-free regimen for genotype 1 (1a and 1b) patients by the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015, pending regulatory discussions. " It looks to me as though there could be several forms of interferon free treatment on or about 2015; Vertex, Gilead, possibly BMS or Abbott and possibly a few others.
Avatar f tn Hi... There are many people on this forum who have treated successfully with Geno type 1 or are currently treating . The success rate with the introduction today of the third drug (either Incivek or Victrelis ) added to the standard drugs Interferon & ribavirin ,has increased success rates to approx. 70 -80% (depending on many factors as you mentioned) I would agree with cando that at St.
Avatar m tn Re-infection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) is very important for prognosis after liver transplantation of HCV cirrhosis. In the mechanism of re-infection of HCV, the peri-transplant immunity including the immunosuppression must be very important for getting the solution of prevention of its infection. (please rewrite this phrase). In this study, we investigated the influences of intraportal DST for HCV-reinfection after living related liver transplantation (LRLT).
Avatar m tn That is people who completed their assigned treatment irrespective of dose reductions. Other factors were VL, speed of response and length of TX.
Avatar f tn d beta blockers, both for cardiac symptoms and for anxiety. While all beta blockers have a similar mechanism of action, some work better than others for some people depending on the reason it's needed in the first place. Start by having a discussion with your doctor...ask him why he chose the med he did for your condition, and if it would be the most optimal choice for treatment of concurrent anxiety in addition to the heart issues. Then you could ask about the Inderal.
Avatar f tn “The current standard anti-HCV treatment, which combines pegylated interferon-alpha with ribavirin, is effective in only about 50% of patients and is often associated with severe side effects. Because of the unique mechanism of action of SPC3649 and its tolerability profile, this new therapy could have the potential to replace interferon to treat disease progression or be combined with current treatments.
462771 tn?1358355843 Now Rebif is exactly the same interferon as AVonex, Interferon-beta-1a. It is used at a higher dose and more often. Betaseron is Interferon-beta-1b. I have not read that there would be a difference in action if you moved to the "1b" as opposed to staying with the "1a" form. But, you might ask your doc. Now, the reality is that the DMDs do not work for everyone.
648439 tn?1225058862 Yes, you'll be fine. I had 3 shots in a row leak on me (bad batch) and that was during weeks 2-4 (the critical ones)...but I still got UND at 4 weeks. I'm geno 1b, had a low VL of 30,100 and was UND at 4 wks but my doc doesn't believe in letting me stop at 24 so I'm continuing on like you are.
Avatar f tn Adverse effects of IFN therapy on the kidney include proteinuria and rarely nephrotic syndrome or acute and chronic renal failure. The mechanism of renal injury is unclear although an immune mechanism is suggested. Sporadic cases of other immune-mediated side effects have been published. These include dermatological adverse effects manifesting as psoriasis, pemphigus and vitiligo, and also rare cases of sarcoidosis, hepatitis, colitis or cryoglobulinemia.
