Common Questions and Answers about Inderal la migraine

inderal

Avatar n tn I too suffer from them for the past 8 years and currently take Inderal LA 120mg once a day. It prevents the migraines, although sometimes my sinus headaches can trigger a migraine but its a rare thing. I know for me, stress triggers most of my migraines. Talk to your doctor. Im only being treated by my GP.
957923 tn?1246732553 I take Inderal LA 120mg 1x a day and I also take bcp (Yasmin) and Metformin 500mg 2x for weight loss. My doctor knew I was on Inderal LA and said it was fine. Talk to your doctor about getting on Metformin. It works great and with that I've lost 60 + lbs with it. I have all the symptoms that you have too, except I don't have high blood pressure. I wouldn't consider the lap band surgery (only as a last resort).
Avatar f tn On January 18, 2011, my doctor put me on Inderal LA 60 mg because a stupid doctor upped my thyroid medicine too much and my heart rate and BP went off the chart. I have not taken any thyroid hormone since January 18th. While the Inderal has helped lower the BP and heart rate, I am having significant side effects from it and just wondered if others had experienced the same thing. I am quite fatigued but the most disturbing thing is I'm having very vivid and scary dreams.
Avatar m tn ve been on 3 different medications including, inderal 10 milligrams which stopped working, inderal 25 milligrams which caused me to black out and get dizzy, and amitriptyline 25 milligrams, which stopped working. I'm concerned because after talking to my doctor he looked at my charts and noted that I relapse with migraines every three months. These migraines are so severe it keeps me from doing my every day activities.
778037 tn?1377986200 Hi, Inderal is indicated for the prophylaxis of common migraine headache. The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis.
Avatar f tn i took it for about 14 mths for svt ,and i found it to be ok ,there are better ones for svt ,like neiblet{nebivolol} which is a more selective for the heart ,but inderal is known to be good for migraine as well...for the first few weeks just watch standing up quick and things like that ,it is better started on a low dose and moved up as needed,,but apart from that it seems to be well tolerated by most.
Avatar n tn t aggravate tremors and so your feeling of increased head shaking cannot be attributed to Inderal. For a person with an essential tremor, the starting dose of Inderal is 40 mg twice a day. Based on the tremor response and/or Inderal side effects, your healthcare provider may increase or decrease the Inderal dosage. Hence, the dose you are taking is suboptimum and may not be of any benefit in your tremor.
Avatar f tn Your migraine headaches may come back as a result of stopping the Inderal if the Inderal is controlling your migraine headaches. If the migraine headaches do come back and become chronic (more than 15 migraines a month) this would be considered a disability and it would be important that you stayed on the Inderal. If this happens, you may want to consider if it is possible for you to afford to pay for the Inderal out-of-pocket.
Avatar n tn i have been taking these capsules called inderal la for my depression and anxiety and they are not helping at all with my condition and i wanted to know if anybody else was taking the same medication and if it has helped them.
Avatar n tn I have tried topamax and inderal and they are not helping my headaches. What is next?
Avatar m tn I have had a pain in my head behind my left eye for the last week which eventually turned into a migraine headache last night. I would love to be able to wean myself off Inderal tablets but I am very surprised at how quickly my headaches have come back now that i'm down to only 3 a day. Could this just be my body getting used to the new dosage (that might stop after a while?
Avatar f tn Results vary among people, but, for migraines, I was taking 240 mg Inderal LA (Propranolol slow release) every day, in divided doses, I was fine. One site I just viewed suggested dosing as 40mg twice a day of Standard Propranolol or 80 mg Slow Release once a day. For the Standard Propranolol, they listed 640 mg as the maximum per day, in divided doses, so you're clearing that by a wide margin.
Avatar f tn My neuro said that given my symptoms, it is unlikely that it is hemiplegic migraines, but could be a possibility. She took me off Toprol XL and prescribed Inderal LA as this will respond to more receptors in the body other than just the heart. Hopefully this will help not only with my Tachy but will prevent "episodes" if this is in fact hemiplegic migraines. She also said that if they are HM's and I don't have the pain associated with a migraine when these episodes happen...
Avatar f tn Hi I have many different heart arrhythmias and I take Inderal la 60 , my heart rate is most of the time in the 50's I am having a Colonoscopy and my Dr. wants me to do Magnesium-Dulcolax prep . I feel that it would be dangerous to take it since that would probably increase my slow heart rate. What is a safe prep for people with heart condition like that?
Avatar n tn I have been researching my options and noticed that Inderal has been indicated for all three. Is it possible to take this drug to alleviate the symptoms of all 3? If so, what is the recommended dosage for each of the three? Thank you so much for you time!
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply.....I agree the hardest part is taking propafenone 3x's aday. Dr.had me stop the Propafenone( I don't really know why) and go on 80 mg.of Inderal LA....wow....I went to pieces as far as my AF....stayed on the propafenone for 7 days....got worse everyday. With Drs' ok I went back to propafenone 325 x 3 and Inderal 10mg x 2 aday...maybe they will formulate a LA form of propafenone soon.
Avatar m tn My Aunt is having her tubes tied(lapriscopy) this coming Tuesday. She has instructions from the hospital that says she cannot take any type of OTC pain reliever for this week prior to her surgery. She has had a migraine for two days now, and hasn't taken anything because of the instructions from the hospital. I'm wondering if there is any type of OTC pain reliever that she can take. She take Norco 7.
Avatar f tn to treatments: Propranalol (Inderal; for tremor reduction and/or migraine prevention) Celexa (antidepressant) to events: busy day (or some other brief phrase about overdoing things) Thank you.
Avatar f tn I am 22 years old and I've been having these weird heart beats or fluttering it happens every other day or sometimes once a week. I also suffer from migraine and I've been taking inderal 10mg pills for 3 months now and I haven't been sleeping well. for the past 6 months I go to bed at 4 am in the morning so I'm not sure if these heartbeats are caused by the pills or lack of sleep.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a 28 year old female and have had migraines since the birth of my daughter in 1999. I have tried several different preventative medications including Inderal LA, which I no longer take. I now take Imitrex 100mg PRN- but have noticed a few changes in my symptoms. I have never experienced an aura-I usually get the pain on one side(usually my left) that generates to behind my left eye. The headaches pretty much incapacitate me- I am nauseated-feel dizzy-overall malaise.
Avatar f tn Some medications including anticonvulsants, antidepressants and even anti-hypertensives are often prescribed as preventive medication for migraine headaches. This includes topamax and inderal. Talk to your doctor about this for proper management. There are plenty of medicines available and it can take up to several months to know if the medication is effective for you. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with migraine equivalent by my neurologist. He gave me Topomax which i reacted very bad to so I got off of it. I was only on it for two weeks and I've been off of it for three days now so I'm pretty sure most of it is out of my system, especially since I started on a low dosage.
Avatar n tn They have been using different meds to try to help with the headaches and now she is on Inderal LA 80 once a day. It helps some but what do we need to do? Do we need to go through with the TEE or what?
Avatar m tn The possibilities that come to mind are shunt headaches and migraine. Shunt dependent children have been known to suffer from migraine variant. Migraine meds like Inderal have shown dramatic results in such children. I would suggest you to discuss these two possibilities with his treating doctor.
Avatar n tn Does this mean that you will never get another migraine attack in the future though, even if your migraine attacks become extremely under control? No, you will still get migraine attacks from time to time but then you will more likely be able to control them effectively with acute treatment. It is when migraines are chronic that acute treatment often fails. There are so many preventative migraine medications out there. The daily medications fall into three main classes.
Avatar n tn I'm 9w 3d with my first pregnancy. I take Inderal for my migraines and my doctor told me though it's safe there's a chance my baby could be smaller than normal. Is anyone else on this Med? Has anyone found this to be true for their pregnancy?
Avatar n tn After some delibrations, the PCP referred me to a neurologist who diagonsed it as a mixed headache (tension + migraine). He also ordered an EEG and put me on migraine preventive medicine "Inderal" 20 mg per day. After taking 10 days for reading the EEG, I was yesterday told that the report came in negative and they couldn't also infer migraine headache from the report. Also my headaches still continue.
