I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

Once a migraine attack has started it is very hard to end. You need strong drugs for that. Do you usually have migraine attacks that last this long? Maybe you should see a doctor?

I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.

Thanks, my mom has some serious migrains and she takes imitrex and it helps a lot. I did take an over the counter migraine med with caffeine in it and it helped a lot. I am doing good though other than this dam* headache!

Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.

Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...

I am an 18 year old whose migraines usually rebound with Imitrex therapy. Which of the following is recommended?

i had been a migraine sufferer for 20 years....there are very specific migraine meds out there if you have TRUE migraines (imitrex, relpax, all that kinda stuff)....i got started on the hydros due to chronic daily tension headaches but never really used the hydros for my migraines....only used the prescribed migraine med....just don't try to convince yourself that the codeine/hydros are working to take away your migraines....cuz they really aren't....that's what all the imitrex, etc.

I'm not a doctor, but every time I get a migraine, which I've been getting for 16 years, I've noticed that during the most severe migraines, I'm very nauseous and even thrown up...which made my migraine so bad, that I had to got o the hospital for pain meds. The only medicine that got rid of my migraine (and the nausea) was Imitrex. I've even gotten the imitrex shot. Have you tried Imitrex?

I have really bad PMS and migraine headaches a few or so days before. I recently got an Rx for Imitrex and not only did it get rid of my migraine, it also gave me some unexpected energy, alterness, and a slight high combined with my pain meds for Fibromyalgia. Nothing has pulled me out of a bad PMS slump with extreme fatigue and feeling like I am being poisoned by my hormones like Imitrex. I would be tempted to use it when I don't have a migraine during a bad PMS slump.

I am not sure if it is a side-effect of the triptan, or if it is the migraine and the triptan is not relieving all of the migraine symptoms (and only relieving the pain). Buy yeah... I totally feel out of it after taking triptans!

The only thing you have to be careful about dose wise when using Imitrex is that you only ever take as much as your doctor has prescribed for you, and you never take more than 2 doses in a 24 hour period unless specifically instructed to by a doctor or if you are administered those doses in a hospital setting and that you never take more than 2 doses for the SAME migraine. Otherwise, please take the Imitrex when you are in pain, you have nothing to worry about addiction wise.

Once the vomiting starts, I am unable to take anything orally - pain meds or even water. Does anyone know of a patch or cream that can be applied as a pain reliever for the migraine? Or maybe to at least stop the vomiting?

Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.

The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?

I've had one migraine since I've been on treatment and multiple head aches almost daily. My doctor didn't mention migraines, but when I got my Pegasys booklet it did say that a possible side effect was migraine/head aches. I assume that the meds stay in ur body for some time once treatment is done so this may be why your pains continues?

Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.

I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.

Hi, Ok my list .. Hydrocone, Tylenol3, Maxalt,Elavil, zomig ,ultram, Relpax, amerge ,demerol, morphine, topamaxx, floricet,Imitrex, Naproxen .. OTc's make me sick when I have a migraine. nasle sprays,Effexor. thats the ones I remember I get at lease three a week . not to sure what all my triggers are yet . I wake up with them .

Thanks for responding, Rowena. Bell's Palsy has been ruled out. I wonder if Imitrex, which has worked for my migraine pain, would be okay to take for this paresthesia (without pain) which is apparently due to migraine?

I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.

After last weeks migraine and realizing the pressure and pain was now back, I went to see my doctor and he prescribed Imitrex to take at the onset of migraine symptoms. My hope is that this will prevent the lingering effects from setting in, and will hopefully allow me to avoid the months of pain following these migraines.
