Imitrex and naprosyn for migraine

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex and naprosyn for migraine

imitrex

Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
635402 tn?1270162477 From a strict treatment point of view, yes, the medication probably is better than Imitrex alone for a migraine. The reason for this is twofold. First of all, several years ago, Dr. Silberstein of the Jefferson Headache Center was able to demonstrate through research, that Imitrex combined with naprosyn taken at the onset of a migraine was better in treating that migraine than either drug alone. Such a combination is deemed synergistic, meaning basically that two plus two equals ten.
Avatar m tn Now... just if you're wondering how the stuff works at all... I can let you know that too. Well, during a migraine... a bunch of stuff happens in your brain that causes all the symptoms of a migraine.
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar f tn Im now on Butorphanol spray, demerol, ativan and sleeping pills, all for pain management, ,i have also been on preventatives for years,i have not worked for 20 yrs from my intense migraines. Although Imitrex im sure works for alot of people which is great if your body reacts well to it, unfortunately for me it didnt. Wishing you well in your journey.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
557111 tn?1219712047 Thanks, my mom has some serious migrains and she takes imitrex and it helps a lot. I did take an over the counter migraine med with caffeine in it and it helped a lot. I am doing good though other than this dam* headache!
1103688 tn?1257894552 Not all triptans are made with the same ingredients and so not all triptans will have the same side-effects. For example, Imitrex is the only triptan that is also a Sulfa drug (many people have Sulfa allergies). Imitrex is known to cause the side-effect you mentioned in some people, the severe heart palpitations.
Avatar n tn I have a headache almost everyday of the week and a migraine 2-3 times per month. I only take the Relpax during my migraines and may take tylenol, ibuprofen, or excedrin for my headace without any relief. My MD had spoken with me about taking medicine daily to prevent the occurence of my migraines. I really do not want to take another daily med because I want to have a baby in the next couple of years. The Relpax gives me really bad "jet lag" the whole rest of the day after taking it.
709686 tn?1277432159 of all migraines hit me about 2pm. When I got home I took a 10mg Imitrex tablet and laid down. Now these Imitrex tablets make me very sleepy so once the headache began to fade I went soundly asleep around 6pm and slept until 6am. Since I skipped dinner last night I was quite weak this morning until I ate breakfast. I only took one 10mg norco tablet during this time as I am on my "taper" schedule. I was quite proud of myself.
1079216 tn?1258200805 So, yes, a few of our forum members have had migraines last for a very long time. If your migraine has lasted for 6 weeks straight and you have had absolutely no pain free time then you probably have what is called status migrainosus. If you have had a daily chronic headache along with migraines most of the time during those 6 weeks you probably have chronic migraines with an underlying daily chronic headache (two different conditions), which is slightly different from status migrainosus.
656111 tn?1273820739 Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
Avatar f tn I had a similar problem with Maxalt (a drug in the same class as Relpax-they are both triptans). My insurance would only cover 12 pills, and I need more. My doctor filled out the necessary paperwork for my insurance co., saying I need more than "typically alotted". The pharmacy division of your insurance co. can give you more info. If that's not possible, have you tried another triptan? Maxalt, Imitrex, and Relpax all work for my migraines. Good luck!
507619 tn?1211845850 codeine doesn't really take away migraines....it may MASK the symptoms/pain briefly....sometimes doesn't even do that....but it usually makes them worse....i had been a migraine sufferer for 20 years....there are very specific migraine meds out there if you have TRUE migraines (imitrex, relpax, all that kinda stuff)....i got started on the hydros due to chronic daily tension headaches but never really used the hydros for my migraines....only used the prescribed migraine med....
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, but every time I get a migraine, which I've been getting for 16 years, I've noticed that during the most severe migraines, I'm very nauseous and even thrown up...which made my migraine so bad, that I had to got o the hospital for pain meds. The only medicine that got rid of my migraine (and the nausea) was Imitrex. I've even gotten the imitrex shot. Have you tried Imitrex?
518798 tn?1295212279 I have really bad PMS and migraine headaches a few or so days before. I recently got an Rx for Imitrex and not only did it get rid of my migraine, it also gave me some unexpected energy, alterness, and a slight high combined with my pain meds for Fibromyalgia. Nothing has pulled me out of a bad PMS slump with extreme fatigue and feeling like I am being poisoned by my hormones like Imitrex. I would be tempted to use it when I don't have a migraine during a bad PMS slump.
Avatar f tn I have had migraines for many years and want to share my experience with Imitrex. It worked great for me until I went through period when I got lots of migraines in a short period of time. I had a rebound effect from the Imitrex. I have had better luck alternating the meds....Imitrex for one then Relpax for example. I also had better results with Axert and Frova which I also alternated to avoid the rebound problem.
561539 tn?1216438257 Doc, taking the safe route? What you listed really really of no help with my question regarding face numbnesss following a migraine. While I appreciate that you just read off/typed in all of the side effects of the medicine, I assure you I am an involved patient and smart person. I've already researched that and am aware that face numbness is not listed.
Avatar n tn Migraine comes and stays for days truning in to a dull continus pain for up to 7 days.
Avatar f tn I am not sure if it is a side-effect of the triptan, or if it is the migraine and the triptan is not relieving all of the migraine symptoms (and only relieving the pain). Buy yeah... I totally feel out of it after taking triptans!
Avatar f tn also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.
