1103688 tn?1257894552 First off I think that increasing the Topamax to 100mg if possible would be a good place to start since you have said that the Topamax has greatly reduced the number of severe headaches you get. The normal dose of Topamax for migraine prevention is 100mg, so taking it at the regular dose might greatly improve your situation.
507619 tn?1211845850 i get codiene for migraines i was addicted and have been clean from hydros about 1 month if i take codiene will phyisical withdrwal come back if i use for migraine just once please honest awnser please i know the chances of getting re addicted
518798 tn?1295212279 I too am very afraid that I have now become addicted to Imitrex. I have been getting migraine headaches for 28 years and have been getting far more intense and often the past few years. This year has been extremely difficult. I am not at the point where I have a migraine headache 3-4 days per week. I take half and imitrex (to save cost) each time. There are occasions when the headache is so bad that I have to take it twice in a 12 hour period.
Avatar f tn also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
Avatar m tn My neuro gave me Ultram, which is a better choice for chronic and frequent headaches.
Avatar f tn In my opinion, that is a very odd medication for a migraine. Usually triptans like Imitrex or Maxalt are given for migraines and work very well. Usually the Fiorinal is given for tension headaces. Good luck and I hope you can find the perfect medication for you.
969557 tn?1314370614 I've had one migraine since I've been on treatment and multiple head aches almost daily. My doctor didn't mention migraines, but when I got my Pegasys booklet it did say that a possible side effect was migraine/head aches. I assume that the meds stay in ur body for some time once treatment is done so this may be why your pains continues?
768044 tn?1294223436 I also have a prescription for Imitrex Injection too, although the Imitrex Injection is to use for my most severe migraine headaches (what I used to call my "suicide headaches" or what I now refer to as a 9/10 headache using the Pain Scale that was recently posted in Pain Management Community Forum). I don't use Imitrex Injection often. Mostly I stick with my Zomig and for the majority of my migraines and the Zomig works.
Avatar m tn but that is because not all medication works for everyone.... but for most migraine sufferers, especially for occasional migraine sufferers, triptans are the best medication if taken at the first signs of a migraine. Now... how long it will take to work all depends on what type of form you have the medication in... a tablet, a quick dissolve tablet, a nasal spray or an injection. If you have it in a tablet, it may take up to 2 hours to work... and I am just being honest there.
Avatar f tn I get these terrible headaches usually to one side of my head but they usually only come the week before my menstral and last a couple days with taking some meds like excedrin...well now it has come back before this time and along with it I cant focus on anything I feel dizzy lightheaded and extremely tired but try to lay down and cant sleep the goes from my temple to the side of my neck...Help any ideas of what is causing this...I called dr cant get an appt till thurs....but im worrried...
635402 tn?1270162477 From a strict treatment point of view, yes, the medication probably is better than Imitrex alone for a migraine. The reason for this is twofold. First of all, several years ago, Dr. Silberstein of the Jefferson Headache Center was able to demonstrate through research, that Imitrex combined with naprosyn taken at the onset of a migraine was better in treating that migraine than either drug alone. Such a combination is deemed synergistic, meaning basically that two plus two equals ten.
Avatar m tn Have you actually been diagnosed for migraines or does it just feel like a migraine? If you have had an EEG and it was positive for migraine you can get prescription Imitrex, or depakote. there are various newer migraine meds too. If you haven't been diagnosed you should see a neurologist and have them do an EEG and/or CT scan or MRI. The Imitrex works for me but sometimes you have to take another pill or try a higher dose.
Avatar f tn For the last 2-3 weeks I have been having awful headaches. My dentist thinks it might be TMJ, so she fitted me for a splint (which I get next week), but advised me to see an MD to rule out other possible causes, which I did. He does not believe it is TMJ because it is not concentrated around my jaw. Rather it hurts ALL over from my jaw, temples, sides of my head, forehead, neck, and sometimes shoulders. The MRI came back completely normal.
Avatar m tn Indeed, there has been an increasing demand for food, vitamins and supplements for management of migraine headaches due to adverse side effects of medications. Supplements such as magnesium, Petasites hybridus, feverfew, coenzyme Q10, riboflavin, and alpha lipoic have been found to help in migraine prevention. Avatar f tn Has the Dr ever prescribed imitrex? I suffer migraine headaches. As well. Just a question, your Dr has you on pain pills for another ailment, right?
Avatar f tn I was given DHE 45 intravenously to stop the migraine. It had awful side effects but man did it work wonders for the migraine. I was never told why I had a 15 day migraine but many causeas were ruled out. If you have insurance contact a neurologist for an appointment and find out what they can do. I now take Imitrex and Topomax to reduce the number of headaches and to stop thm once they have started.
Avatar f tn There are plenty of migraine headaches in the market today and treatment is usually trial and error for some. Imitrex or sumatriptan is used to treat migraine headaches, with or without aura, in adults. This has been effective to some headache sufferers. If it does not help with your symptoms, inform your doctor for a change of medication. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn But, it was actually tension headaches. You may want to get a script for something like Imitrex and try it. I will tell you that for most people, the headaches go away in a month or so. So, try and just tough it out.
Avatar n tn This medication is not to be used for other types of headaches. One dose is taken by mouth at the first signs of a migraine attack. To know more about this please visit the RxPharmastore where you can find information on this tablet and many more.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
