Imitrex and blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex and blood pressure

imitrex

Avatar m tn I know that a lot of people here have high blood pressure and use triptans, and I have a very high pulse and take blood pressure medication and still use triptans... so I am pretty sure your high blood pressure thing is fine... but check with your doctor if you are not sure. So... the last question. Does it work? Well... it depends when you take it and what type of a triptan you have, really. If you take your triptan, the imitrex, at the first sign of a migraine, YES it will work!!
Avatar f tn Sinusitis, refractive errors of the eye, migraine, cluster headaches, brain tumors and aneurysms, high blood pressure, tension headaches, temporal arteritis, pinched cervical spinal nerve, TMJ, poor or disturbed sleep etc are several causes of headaches. Dental pain and ear ache due to infection or impacted wax can cause similar symptoms. Needless to say, a persisting headache should be investigated. Please consult a headache and migraine specialist to rule out these causes one by one.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
1590979 tn?1302006835 does anyone have any tips for the pressure and tightness feeling in the head and neck? or for the passing out feeling?it's driving me nuts!
518798 tn?1295212279 Imitrex is very hard on the system, gives you high blood pressure among other things. Yes it may stop being as effective if you take it regularly. My wife has had chronic migraines that do not go away for the past 7 years, although they vary in pain severity. She has used just about everything you can think of prescribed by several different doctors including injections into the lower back of the skull. Try having your Doctor rotate your meds every so often.
Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn I take Keppra, an anticonvulsant, Vivactil, an antidepressant and Inderal, Blood pressure medication to prevent headaches. I still suffer almost daily headaches. When I take 50 mg of Imitrex (daily) the headache is gone within an hour. Dr. says I take too much Imitrex, but without it I am curled up in a fetal position, in a dark, quiet room, trying not to move for 12 hours... I am so worried that the Dr. will quit prescribing Imitrex (one already did) and I will be left without a life...
435241 tn?1208575531 I would suggest you to take imitrex for few days and see if it helps. Imitrex is very helpful in migraine.
518798 tn?1295212279 I have been having headaches daily for the past 10 days. I thought it was due to the construction (painting and flooring) going on at work. Last night was horrible. I threw up all day and generally felt like a big pile of dog doodoo. When I woke up this morning, I still had a headache and took my blood pressure. Took it 3 times and each time the bottom number was over 100. I think the highest was 174/110.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much. I tried calling a neuro, but I need a doctor's referal to go to one. The doctor I've been to just listened to me for about 5 minutes and gave me imitrex...and only 6 of them. I'm not sure if he will let me go to a neurologist or not, I have to go back and see him in two weeks, but thanks so much for your response, you're the first that ididn't actually tell me there wasn't anything to treat it.
Avatar n tn I have this pressure Mainly on my left side and had numbness and tingling along w/ it. I acutally had some blurry vision and got really confused and thought I was dying. . Originally I went to the ER thinking it was a stroke or an anuerism they did a CTscan and found nothing. Well the feelings are still here a month later. I have since had an MRI of the brain (neurologist MS ruled out), Blood tests, Heart & Corotid artery ultrasounds. They found nothing.
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
397977 tn?1201264847 After being on birth control-only a low dose my blood pressure went bannanas-200/100 and my migraines were almost constant. I went off the birth control and had a thermal ablation to thin the lining of my Uterus. This I'm sure saved my life, I was literally hemorrhaging. This helped for a while with my migraines as I was just healthier. But they have gotten out of hand again as it seemed to with my mother also during her 40's.
Avatar f tn Ziac is for high blood pressure and I doubt you have this at 20! Do you know why it was given to you? Imitrex is for migraines, do you get migraine headaches? Lexapro is used to treat anxiety and obcessive compulsive disorders (OCD). This is where one keeps doing something repeatedly, like handwashing, cleaning, checking locks, etc. People with OCD often have ADHD as well. Lexapro can calm you and help you concentrate, but it doesn't sound like it's working for you.
Avatar n tn Depending on the results of the initial assessment of your doctor, additional tests such as imaging studies and blood tests ( complete blood count or CBC included) can be done. These tests will definitely help rule out the bad stuff or organic causes. Take care always.
Avatar f tn No. Why could that play a roll in it? And if so what do I do?
Avatar f tn Leave it in for a few minutes and the coolness pulls the blood from your head to release some pressure. In my experience it doesn't take the headache away completely, but it definitely helped with the pressure of my consistent headaches in my first trimester. Hopefully that helps!
Avatar f tn Then it would happen on my right side too and now, it seems to happen everynight no matter how I lay. It feels just like pressure building up inside my head, starting at the base of my skull and radiating all over. Feels like my head will explode from the inside out. Not at all the same issues I had before surgery when I would get the intense pressure headaches at the base of my skull when coughing or bending over. Is anyone else having these issues?
Avatar n tn I was 45 also when my family practice dr. diaagnoised me with a pseudotumor cerebri. I was having migranes daily and head was so foggy I got to where I could not function. Request a MRI/MRA to rule out a tumor or vessel disorder. If this comes back normal then ask if it could be a pseudotumor cerebri . This use to be known as intercranial hypertension. Usually a woman of chidbearing age is suspected of this not someone of 45. I still have migranes but nothing like I did.
Avatar f tn But it seems to get better each day. Main thing I am fighting now are these daily head aches. They get SO BAD. My blood pressure is not high. I take 800mg ibprofen and it doesn't even touch it. Any help or advice would be wonderful. Yay for 10 days clean. Proud of myself.

Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol.
