imitrex

Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn I have migraines a few times a month (2-3) and take 50mg generic imitrex with an OTC NSAID. So after having two different doctors tell me that I need to get an "official diagnosis" of migraines from a neurologist, I finally saw a neuro. yesterday. To say that I am confused and angry is an understatement! For $250 he told me that I have mixed migraines/tension headaches and to reduce my stress and that my migraines would improve or lessen.
Avatar n tn I have the EXACT same thing. I've tried Imitrex tablets (no help since I threw them up), Imitrex Nasel Spray (once again, no help because I threw it up), Imitrex Injection (have you tried this? I couldn't keep taking because of an allergic reaction). Another good option is Relpax. It is a tablet BUT one of the benifits is that it helps with vomiting also. I did fine on this and I'm a huge vomiter (yuck, lack of a better word). Sure wish I had insurance still...
Avatar f tn There really aren't very many specialists in the area of dysautonomia, I'm afraid. I was told P.O.T.S. could be hereditary and later learned I have a second cousin who has been diagnosed with the same thing. I've not had any official testing to determine the underlying cause of my autonomic dysfunction. I was diagnosed with P.O.T.S. back in 2004.
306455 tn?1288862071 There is a free web site that will send you alerts about 48 hours before certain weather conditions will effect things like migraines, asthma, allergy's etc. It's pretty cool. I woke up this morning with a migraine, hadn't checked my e-mail in 2 days, but there was a warning sent 2 days ago, that I might get a migraine within 48 hours. There are all kind of medical conditions that are effected by the weather, so if you can be warned ahead of time, it can be a big help.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
610738 tn?1263111556 We would need to be able to verify the calories burned on an official government site. Do you know where you saw the 400 calories for every 30 minutes? If you can find this information on a government site, we'd be happy to add it for you.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
1710955 tn?1309446473 So the dx is official. I have relapse-remitting MS. Apart of me was hoping the LP came back normal so that there was still a slim chance that I didn't have MS, but that wasn't in the cards for me. I'm ok with the dx. I'm going to start with Copaxone in 4-6 weeks. The neuro is going to send me the LP results when the O band part comes back. Oh, and the blood patch is still in place and I'm still headache free! Yay!

Avatar f tn I believe Imigran is the same as Imitrex in the states - I live in Bangkok so we get different brand names here in Thailand. Have any of you had success with this drug? I sure hope it works for me. Also, I need to start keeping a food journal. I think coffee (which I love!) may be a trigger. Splenda and other various forms of aspartame I think might be causing them as well, but not 100% sure just yet.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar n tn It could be a type of visual aura or if it comes back and stays maybe something you need to see the eye doctor about. Yes there is an eye care site here. Go to forums and eye care. They have some nice opthamologists there. You may also want to post on the migraine site. You can get a migraine aura without the headaches ( I do all the time). I jave double vision, yellow/orange shooting lights and the typical aura from a retinal migraine.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
Avatar n tn Hi , I am really glad I found your site . I have been suffering from migraines for three years now and we keep increasing my medication . Now on 300mg of Topamax, 240 mg Varapamil , 10mg Lexapro , Birthcontrol ( Hormone Control ) , OTC Clariton , Prednisone , Daily Nasal Spray . I have tried Chiropractor and Accupuncture. Nothing is working to get ride of daily head ache and I am back up to 3-4 severe migraines a week where I need Fioricet because Imitrex has stopped working .
Avatar f tn Four to five years ago my doc thought they were migraines and I took Imitrex about once every 2 weeks. Then I started getting a worse headache from the Imitrex, like my entire head was supersensitive, my hair hurt. He sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed occiptal neuralgia. That doc has been giving me botox injections in my neck and prescribed Lyrica. I can't afford the Lyrica -- its $300 a month.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
1569579 tn?1299187685 Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?
